A second item that should be changed in a bathroom with small children is the towel racks. Many children find that they cannot reach a towel after washing their hands. Simply lowering the towel bar or ring to a height that can be accessible to small children can prevent many messes both in the bathroom and outside when the child comes out with his or her hands still dripping water. Lowering the towel bar in addition to the towel ring can make it easier for children to reach towels after bathing, thus shortening the amount of time it takes for them to dry off and reducing messy and puddles on the bathroom floor.
Bathroom Accessories for Small Children
There are certain accessories small children need to utilize standard sized bathroom items, such a step stool to reach the bathroom sink or to get onto the toilet. A small step stool should be placed in front of the toilet to allow small children to be able to get onto the toilet quickly, and help prevent unwanted bathroom messes from toileting accidents. A step stool should also be placed in front of the bathroom sink. This step stool should be tall enough to allow the child to reach the sink handles yet small enough to allow the child to safely step up on it; ideally the step stool for the sink would have two steps.
Children also need to have access to standard bathroom accessories, such as the toothbrush holder, soap dish, or cup. Families with small children should do their best to avoid using glass items. Accessories for a bathroom with small children should either be made of plastic, metal or other unbreakable material; not only will this save of having to replace these items if broken, but it is also much safer for anyone using the bathroom. For safetys sake, bathroom cabinets should be kept locked, especially when bathroom cleaners or medications are stored inside for safetys sake.
