Many looked for this to be a showdown of undefeated teams at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at The Rig in Pearland, but Texas City spoiled that scenario by beating Friendswood 63-35 two weeks ago.
Dawson is a game in front of Friendswood, Texas City (5-2, 3-1) and Galena Park (4-3, 3-1), and Texas City entertains Galena Park at 7:30 p.m. Friday in this week's other top 24-4A matchup.
District 22-5A co-leaders Manvel and Pearland (both 6-1, 4-0) are a week away from meeting for the league crown, but both have one more to go before the much-anticipated smack down on Nov. 2 in Pearland.
Manvel hosts Rayburn (3-4, 1-3) at Alvin ISD Memorial Stadium, while Pearland plays at Pasadena Memorial (5-1, 3-1) at 7 p.m. Friday, and if both win as expected, buckle up for next week.
Alvin (2-5, 1-3) tries to keep its playoff hopes going in an afternoon outing at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at South Houston (2-5, 1-3) at Pasadena ISD Veterans Stadium.
