Every where I turn, someone is customising, reworking, refashioning or recycling a vintage piece of clothing. Refashioning appears to be emerging as a hot new trend for 2009. Of course there are lots of people who have been refashioning for decades, however refashioning is very hitting the main stream. Refashioning has even become big business with new designers and corporations making new from old, so what is all this about.

Lately consumerism has reached an all-time high and individuals have now did start to make a conscious effort to reside a more sustainable and ecological lifestyle.

Fast fashion is a area where consumerism is a it's greatest. The obtaining cheaply made, bad quality clothes may have seemed like recommended for a while but everyone is now seeing the error of these ways. They are in search of individual pieces that celebrate their own unique style and so are a bit not the same as what you would find on the high street. They are also seeking clothes created from materials which have a minimal environmental impact.

Refashioned and recycled clothing is an ideal answer, it doesn't reduce the number of textile waste being put in landfill, in addition, it eliminates the environmental impact for this manufacture of new clothing. It also offers something brand spanking new and cutting edge. A clever refashioner use the best elements of the existing garment to build something that is appealing.

All sorts of old clothes can be used to build new clothing including vintage, knitwear, tailored clothes, prom dresses, wedding gowns and even fashion industry waste and off cuts. There are so many suggestions coming out that go ahead and take idea of reworking clothes a whole lot further than turning a classic pair of jeans in a skirt. Some of the most innovative pieces involve almost completely deconstructing a piece of clothing to make it into a new challenge, buy perhaps conserving a small feature or two in the original item such as the buttons, collar or lace trim.
