It's not fun having acne, and it's even worse when you can't eliminate the resultant scarring. The type of acne that leads to scars is the most distressing. However, you will be glad to know that not all acne outbreaks cause scars to form. Different types of acne scars respond to different treatment methods. Some will need to have surgical intervention and others may be less severe and can be gotten rid of with over-the-counter remedies that you buy at the pharmacy, or even by applying natural treatments. Let's look at some of the choices you have when it comes to treating acne scars.

Experts have classified, and named, the different patterns of acne scarring to make it easier for people to know which type of scarring they have. By far the most common scars left by acne are called Icepick scars, due to their distinct appearance as punctures made by an icepick. Treating icepick scars is difficult because they tend to be very deep.

If your scars are round or oval, and the edges are sharp, they are probably the more shallow Boxcar scars. Rolling scars are those that appear wavelike, or rolling, on the skin. Whichever acne scar pattern you have - and these are the most common - the treatment plan will be unique to that type of scar.

If you need a way to conceal your acne scars, do what a lot of people do - cover them with makeup. Makeup can make you look better, and feel better about your acne scars, whether you are using it as a temporary solution until you find something else, or if it's the only solution you have at this time. It's possible to successfully remove, or reduce, most acne scarring; however, there are cases where the scars are stubborn and not responsive to treatment.

Home remedies, such as creams and lotions, aren't always successful in removing acne scarring and, for some folks where this is the case, they cannot afford to get their scars surgically treated at present. There are high-quality makeup products that someone with acne scarring can temporarily use until their surgery is performed. Gentle makeup products, that offer a natural appearance, are the high-quality mineral makeup products.

If you have acne, you've probably heard by now that picking at scabs is not a good idea. Unfortunately, even though this is one of the causes of scarring, a lot of folks can't seem to stop this habit. You thwart the process of healing when you pick at your scabs, because the scabbing over process is part of healing. The healing of your pimples will take longer due to the inflammation that can occur when you pick at your scabs. It can also cause the formation of scars. A lot of people constantly pick at their scabs and don't even notice what they are doing. If you tend to do this, you should make every effort to stop, as this will only make scarring more likely and more severe.

It's really not the end of the world if you have acne scars, even though it can be extremely frustrating. Once you know which type of scarring you have, you will be better able to determine the best treatment method for yourself out of the many options available. Are you still conflicted and not sure which treatment approach is best for you? Make an appointment to discuss the matter with your health care provider or dermatologist. Put the thought out of your mind that you will never be able to get rid of your acne scars.
