Dog Training Is Possible
When thinking about canine training, think of your dog as a remote that has to be programmed in order for it to work properly. Your dog already is capable of doing the most common commands, but it must be trained to follow instructions. If you follow the tips in this article, you can easily train a dog.

Establish a quiet environment when you go into a room your pet is in. Play time is great, but your dog needs to learn to stay calm as his master enters the room. You can retain control over the environment by allowing a few moments before acknowledging your pet. You are behind the decisions to play or interact.

Avoid restraining two dogs too closely together. It is possible for the chains to become intertwined, and the animals can be hurt as they try to get free. This is especially dangerous if one dog is larger than the other, as it could use its superior size to maneuver the other dog into a dangerous position.

Training should be completed in small spurts. Dogs' attentions are very short. Maintaining short training sessions ensures that your dog can remain focused on the task at hand. If you want to do anymore training, let the dog have a play break for stretching and relaxing before continuing with their training.

Do not wear out your new puppy with an excessive training regiment. A puppy's attention span is short and their energy is limited, so your sessions should be short and positive. If you try to do too much too fast, he will associated it as a negative experience and will resist in the future.

An effective way to train your dog is to use different voice tones for different purposes. Your commands, praise, and scoldings should have different tones so that your dog can distinguish between them. The best advice is to use a firm voice for commands, a louder voice when correcting your dog and a higher voice when praising your dog.

Rewarding bad behavior ruins the lesson you're trying to teach them. This makes the dog feel like he holds the control. An example would be giving the dog a treat ever time it starts to bark.

Teach your dog the "down" command. This is an excellent foundation to begin your dog's training, and it's extremely useful in times of emergency. A dog that understands you may want to read this one the "down" command can lower to the ground immediately in a risky situation, so it's perfect for safety reasons.

Does your dog pull on the leash? A lot And here is another good one of owners have to deal with this problem, but the solution is quite simple. A good harness can stop the problem dead in its tracks.

When you reprimand your dog by using his name, follow it up with using his name in a positive manner at least three times. You have to make the dog know that it shouldn't be afraid to hear it's name.

If you must reprimand your dog, it is important to do with an appropriate signal or cue. If you laugh or smile at cute but bad behavior, he will be more likely to continue it. This can lead to more bad behavior and make it much more difficult to train your dog. Even if you are amused by your misbehaving dog, don't let it show.

Stay consistent when you train your dog. Being consistent pertains to words used for commands you want the dog obeying, to the words's tone, and to rewards you provide the dog if he completes the command you teach him successfully.

If you want your dog to get in a sitting position, have them stand while you hold a treat above their head. Make a path with the treat over his head towards his hind end. He will look upwards as he follows your hand. He'll sit as a result.

Use positive reinforcements to train your pet. Punishing your dog whenever he or she does something wrong is not always necessary. Instead, just ensure you aren't reinforcing bad behavior. Enforcing negatively may cause your dog to fear you. Use positive reinforcement to train your dog with treats.

If you want to get rid of inappropriate chewing behaviors, you need to set up the dog's environment so that he will have fewer temptations. Also, be sure to keep a chewer out of hazardous situations. Some items can be choking hazards and should be kept away from your dog's reach. Examples of hazards would be: nylons, household chemical products, and hairbrushes.

Use coins and a can to help you train. Do this by putting some change in a can of pop. Shake the can whenever you catch the dog doing something wrong. It will startle him and it will halt his behavior. Your dog will soon realize their behavior is unacceptable after a few shakes. Just shake the can one time.

Just as is true of humans, different animals have different learning and training styles. A loving dog will more than likely respond well to positive reinforcement. On the other hand, an aggressive dog may respond well to negative reinforcement that shows him your alpha position. Whatever your initial approach, be prepared to change your methods if your dog is not responding.

A pet owner who can help a dog reach its potential will have an easy time and a long, enjoyable life spent in the company of an obedient animal. Dogs like to please their owners, and owners like to see dogs being obedient.
