One of Britain's biggest personal injury specialists has moved into Telford, bringing 90 jobs.

Claims Direct, a franchise which specialises in the handling of injury cases on behalf of victims, has moved its 90 staff into 10,000sq ft of office space at Grosvenor House in Central Park from Brewood, near Wolverhampton, at a cost of about pounds 250,000.

The company operates a network of 800 personal injury managers, solicitors, barristers, medical consultants and forensic accountants.

It offers a fast-track service for personal injuries compensation claims on a no-win no-fee basis and is looking to double its franchises from 100 to 200.

Vectra cars recalled

Vauxhall is recalling more than 200,000 Vectra cars because of a handbrake fault.

The recall affects all models produced up to July 1997 and involves a free-oharge replacement of the cable in the handbrake system.

About a dozen instances of handbrake problems have been reported with Vectras - Vauxhall's top-selling model. But no one has been injured.

The company said that it had found that unusually frequent use of the handbrake could lead to premature wear of the cable.

Rush for BA share scheme

More than 36,000 British Airways employees worldwide have applied to take part in the world's biggest staff share scheme.

The scheme attracted 33,000 applications from BA staff in the UK and from 3,200 employees overseas.

In the year 2001 they will be able to buy shares in the company at 418p, a discount of 20 per cent to the market price in January when the scheme was announced by BA.

The scheme was launched in 81 countries, which BA said made it the most widely available offered by any business in the world. All 61,000 employees were invited to take part.

Staff will put aside between pounds 5 and pounds 100 a month for three years, after which they will qualify for a tax-free bonus equivalent to three times their monthly saving.
