He's seeking your attention, and the best and quickest way to get it is to act badly. Kids don't care what kind of attention they get, as long as it's directed at them. I know it's frustrating, I had the same issue with my middle child. He was 2 when I got pregnant with our third child, and he still has "middle child syndrome" as we like child care center Quincy MA to call it, but it has gotten better, and it will for you too. Try to remember to praise all the good things he does, no matter how small. Whether it's getting you a diaper for the new baby, or remembering to pick up his toys. It also might help to give him a "job" with the new baby. Kids love to feel useful and are eager to please, so for example, if you're busy washing clothes or cooking dinner, ask your toddler to sit and talk to the baby while you're doing those things. He can tell him about all the cool toys he can play with and activities he can do when he's a big boy. It also sets him up for praise, because he's being such a good big brother. That helped the most with my toddler when our daughter was born.
And I also really want to address what you said about needing a break. That is a completely normal feeling. Some people don't realize just how much harder 2 is than 1. It's extremely stressful, and adding to it the behavior your toddler is expressing makes it all the more stressful. If you need a break, take it. Go for a little walk to clear your head, or just go in a different room and have some peace and quiet for a little while. You'd be surprised how much it helps calm your nerves.
