Although some people think of the law as typically involving sordid crimes and a lot of courtroom drama, most of what goes on in that sphere tends to be fairly pedestrian and even potentially boring. Most lawyers spend much of their time going over routine legal matters, however complicated and arcane-seeming they might be. Negotiations happen much more frequently than all-out legal battles do, too, and this is to the advantage of all involved.

Despite what we so often see on television, then, for most attorneys the law is not necessarily the exciting thing that many would suppose it to be. That does not mean that a career in the field can not be rewarding, though, because legal work and thinking invariably involves the kind of engagement that a certain sort of person can easily find consuming.
