2014 NBA Conference Finals
Basketball has been watched and played for many years. Becoming a good basketball player requires lots of dedication and plenty of practice. Don't stop reading just yet because the following article is going to provide you with a few important pieces of basketball advice.

When learning the game of basketball, it's easy to get caught up in offensive play. But you should also give plenty of attention to defense. Defense ultimately determines the winner of a game of basketball. Offense is often what gets the glory, but most winning basketball teams play great defense.

Need to dupe the opposition? You should try a back pass. Use the dominant hand to hold onto the basketball when trying this pass. The next step is to draw the ball behind you. Flip your wrist towards the site where you want the ball to go. This should should thoroughly fool your opponent.

Hitting free throws is a mental challenge as well as a physical one. Making the right physical motions is easier than having the right mind set. Be relaxed and concentrate on the basket and you will help you make more free throws.

You can improve your skills by paying attention to how the pros play. Watch pro games on TV, or attend games in person. Every truly great player has unique skills that you can learn from.

When playing basketball, it is important to always keep your eye on the ball. You have to be aware of what is going on with the ball at all times. You will want to keep extra attention on areas that could improve your position as well.

Completing passes to your teammates is just as important as dribbling the ball. It is hard to play basketball without dribbling, and demands accurate passing and teamwork, so it will be a challenge. Don't be frustrated by how hard it is at first; you will get used to it.

Make sure, no matter what else happens, you can see where the ball is. This helps keep you aware of the action, and it takes away the surprise factor. Always watch for areas opening up where you can go for a quick basket.

Ask a friend to record your games so that you can see how yourself in action. Are you able to see missed opportunities or ways in which you could have improved? Don't be too critical, but do be honest. This gives you an unfettered view of how you actually performed on the court, rather than relying solely on your memory of the game.

To rebound a free throw, you have to be quick. Defenders will start to move at you, so you need to get around them to grab the ball. You'll be able to grab the rebound without fouling your opponent.

To get more out of layups, take off using the foot that;s the opposite of your shooting hand. This means that when you're shooting from your right hand you have to use your left foot to take off. That will build your balance and help you stay in the right position.

A great drill to try is to see how many dribbles it takes for you to make it across the court. The ideal number of dribbles is five. This may seem like an impossible challenge, but it will increase your stride length and your speed. This helps give your team the advantage, and allows you to drive the center.

If you want to improve your three-point shooting, try and do it from the NBA distance, at a minimum. The standard line , high school and college lines are all going to be closer. If you are able to make NBA-range three-point-shots, you will be able to find more open looks during your own games.

Understanding what works in basketball is key to figuring out how to play the game. This is true for basketball as well as many other things in life. With that information at hand, you will be impressing your team, and winning all of your games.
