The predicted lines for DOC well demonstrate the salinity dependence of DOC in Osaka Bay, indicating the conservative mixing of DOM between freshwater and seawater. Mishima et al. (1999) also reported conservative mixing of riverine DOM from the Yodo River in Osaka Bay. For phenolic concentrations, the results found for Osaka Bay were located below the conservative mixing lines predicted by Eqs. (1), (2), (3) and (4). This might result from “net loss” of the phenolic moieties in the DOM.
