Administration of 17-DMAG and/or PEG-IFN. Starting on day 0, HCV-infected chimeric mice with humanized liver received intravenous injections of 4 mg/kg of 17-DMAG and/or subcutaneous injections of 30 μg/kg PEG-IFNα-2a (Chugai, Tokyo, Japan) according to SCH66336 schedule shown in Table 1.

Quantification of HCV RNA by real-time PCR. Total RNA was purified from 1 μl of serum from chimeric mice with humanized liver by the acid guanidinium–phenol–chloroform method, and HCV RNA was quantified by real-time PCR as described by Takeuchi et al. [17].
