Planet Oberon
Journals of imagination
We Came From Planet Oberon
My name is Monica Steward. My sister, Martha and I are from the planet Oberon.
One day, when Martha and I were kids, we were playing in a field. We both ended up falling into a plot hole. As a result, both Martha and I ended up on Earth.
To keep this story short, Martha and I lived in an orphanage for about two years. When we were six years old, Martha and I were adopted by two loving and caring people, John and Maya Steward.
Throughout most of our childhood, I kept insisting that Martha and I lived on planet Oberon, but nobody would believe me.
“If we lived on another planet, I would have remembered”, Martha said to me one evening in our bedroom.
“Well try to remember”, I said. “What’s your earliest memory?”
“I told you. My earliest memory was us being lost in the woods and we were eventually found.”
“How can you not remember our real mom and dad?”
“I don’t know! Just leave me alone!”
Martha and I would have conversations like this almost every night. When I was 12 years old, my parents sent me to a psychologist by the name of Dr. Kaufman.
“So tell me about your parents”, Dr. Kaufman asked. “I mean about your birth parents.”
“My dad was a doctor and my mom was in the military.”
“What were their names?”
“You wouldn’t be able to pronounce their names.”
“When I spoke to your sister, she said that she don’t remember planet Oberon.”
“I don’t understand why she doesn’t remember.”
“You know Monica, what you’re feeling is perfectly normal.”
“Really?”
“Yes! You want to know who your parents are and where you come from.”
Dr. Kaufman then paused for a moment and scratched his head.
“How can I put this is a way that you’ll understand?” Dr. Kaufman asked. “Since you’re adopted, do you think that you’ve convinced yourself that you’re from another planet because you feel that you don’t belong?”
After a year in therapy, I’ve spent years thinking that Dr. Kaufman was right. But when I was 24, my world was turned upside down.
One evening, I went out for some coffee. As I was sitting down at the bar enjoying my coffee, I’ve noticed this man who sat right next to me. He kept looking at me.
“May I help you?” I asked.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to be so rude”, he said. “You just so look familiar. Anyway, I’ll leave you alone.”
This stranger was about to walk out of the cafe.
“Wait a minute”, I said.
The man stopped.
“What’s your name?” I asked.
“My name is Kevin”, he said. “What’s yours?”
“I’m Monica. So, how do I look familiar?”
“You look like somebody I knew years ago.”
I didn’t mention it to Kevin, but he seemed familiar. It’s like I’ve met Kevin in a past life or something.
“You’re not from here, are you?” I asked Kevin.
“No”, Kevin said. “How did you know?”
“I could tell by your accent. So where are you from?”
“I’m from the North.”
“You mean like, Canada?”
“Yeah, sure. I’m from Canada."
After talking to Kevin for about an hour, we’ve decided to exchange phone numbers and emails.
Kevin and I have been hanging out with each other for about 6 weeks since we first met. However, during that time it felt like we’ve been hanging out for six months.
It turns out that me and Kevin have so much in common. For one thing, we both love action movies. Kevin and I also love science fiction as well. In fact, both of us are big Doctor Who fans!
Speaking of which, one night, Kevin invited me to his apartment to watch a Doctor Who marathon.
I knocked on Kevin’s door.
“Hey Monica!” Kevin said. “Come on in.”
I looked at Kevin’s apartment. One of the first things I’ve noticed was a huge bookshelf.
“I see that you like to read”, I said to Kevin.
"Yup”, Kevin said. “Most of those books are science fiction novels.”
“I’m not surprised. Do you mind if I take a look?”
“Be my guest.”
So I looked through Kevin’s books. There was one big that really stood out. I’ve never read that book before, but the title of it sent chills up and down my spine. The name of the book was “History of Planet Oberon".
The History of Planet Oberon
“Are you okay?” Kevin asked. “It looks like you’ve seen a ghost.”
I took a deep breath. “I’m fine”, I said. “Where did you get this book?”
“My grandfather gave it to me. In fact, he wrote that book.”
“Can I take this book home and read it?”
“Sure!”
This book would be proof Martha and I are from another planet.
I’ve learned so much about my home planet from reading “The History of Planet Oberon.” For one thing, there’s this war going on between the Northwest and the Southeast continents. Secondly, it turns out that William Shakespeare named the character Oberon after my home planet.
After reading “The History of Planet Oberon”, so many questions went through my mind. Should I tell Kevin that I’m from this planet, or will he think I’m crazy? Is this an actual history book, or is this just a book that I've seen before? I was so confused. After much contemplation, I’ve decided to just give Kevin his book back.
One day, I went to Kevin's apartment.
“Great book”, I said to Kevin.
“I’m glad you liked it”, Kevin said.
“Your grandfather had an active imagination.”
“What do you mean?”
“What do you mean what do I mean?”
“You don’t think that this book is a work of fiction do you?”
At that point, my heart sank, and I turned as white as a ghost. But Kevin started to laugh.
“I’m only kidding!” Kevin said.
I breathed a sigh of relief. “You got me”, I said. “For a minute there, I thought you were crazy.”
It was clear to me at that point that my years of believing Martha and I were from another planet was a figment of my imagination.
“You know”, I said, “I think I may have seen this book when I was a kid.”
“I don’t see how that’s possible”, Kevin said.
“What do you mean?”
“My grandfather never published his book. I don’t know why though. I published it about three years ago so I could pay my rent. Seriously, it's hard to get a well paying job anywhere these days."
“Well, when I was a kid, I used to pretend my sister and I were from another planet. The name of that planet was Oberon. How else could I’ve possibly come up with that name for a planet?”
“I’m sure that there’s…a lo…logical explanation for that.”
Kevin was visibly nervous. He was sweating and he was stuttering.
“Okay, I confess”, Kevin said. “Planet Oberon is a real planet, and I’m from there. My grandfather did write ‘The History of Planet Oberon’, but it is an actual history book. But you can’t tell anybody.”
“Who am I going to tell?” I said. “I’m from Oberon too. Both me and my twin sister were playing in a field one day. We fell down a plot hole and we ended up on Earth. I admit, I did try to convince my adopted family that me and sister are from Oberon, but nobody would believe me. So who am I going to tell?”
For once in my life, I’ve felt relief. I’ve met somebody else that’s from planet Oberon as well!
Kevin sat down on the couch.
“Well since the cat’s out of the bag, what else do you want to know?” Kevin asked.
“Why did you come to Earth?” I asked Kevin.
“I’m an agent for the warlord of the country of Kratos. The country of Libertas stole a time machine called Kronos. We believe that it’s hidden here on Earth. I’ve been sent to Earth to investigate.”
“I didn’t read anything about a time machine in that book.”
“Well, this a recent development in our war.”
A few days after Kevin confessed to me that he’s from planet Oberon, Martha asked me to babysit.
“Steve’s playing a video game”, Martha said. “Since it’s Saturday night, he can stay up late. He’ll be in bed at around 12:30. But put Emily to bed in about an hour or so.”
“Okay”, I said.
Emily's Bedtime Story
About an hour later, I put Emily to bed.
“Aunt Monica, can you tell me a story?” Emily asked.
“Sure”, I said. “This is a story about two sisters who are from a world far far away. Their father was a scientist. He was involved in the invention of a time machine. Their mother was a solider. She fought to protect her family. One day, the two sisters were playing in a field. They fell down a mysterious hole in the ground. When they came out from the other end, they ended up on Earth. The two little girls were lost in the forest. They were scared. But they were found and placed in an orphanage. Eventually, the two little girls were adopted by two loving grown-ups. The girls and their adopted parents lived happily ever after. The end”
“That’s an interesting story.”
“It is, isn’t it? Anyway, goodnight Emily.”
“Goodnight, Aunt Monica.”
The next day, Martha called me.
“Hello?” I said.
“You told Emily that story about your delusions?”
“What are you talking about?” I asked. “Emily wanted a story, so I told her one. I didn’t say that story was about us, I just said it was about two sisters. Besides, Emily knows that my story is just that, a story."
“You know what, maybe you should stay away from my kids.”
“Why, because I told your daughter a story? Who’s the crazy one now?”
I then hung up the phone.
It wasn’t until later that night that I began to wonder why Martha was freaking out about me telling Emily that story. Could it be possible that Martha remembered our home world after all?
Some time later, Martha and I started to talk again. I remember the conversation we had at my apartment.
“If you really think that we’re from another planet”, Martha said, “then you would have no problem telling the doctors at the Brookfield Mental Hospital that.”
“But they’ll think I’m crazy”, I said.
“And you don’t think you are? Look, just go in for an evaluation. You can believe in whatever crazy things you like. All you have to do is to convince the doctors that you’re not a danger to yourself or those around you."
“Okay, fine. I’ll go.”
“Great! Mom and Dad are in the car.”
An uncomfortable silence filled the car as we drove to the mental hospital. Some time later, I had a one-on-one interview with Dr. Michael Houser.
“Monica, can you tell me a little about yourself?” Dr. Houser asked.
“Of course”, I said. “Me and my sister are from planet Oberon.”
“What can you tell me about this planet?”
“Oberon has pretty much the same environment as Earth. Except in some places, the grass in pink.”
“So are there like little green people there?”
“No. You see, human existed on other planets long before Earth existed. There’s a theory that humans have come to Earth and altered our primate ancestors’ genetics so they would evolve into humans. Humans from planet Oberon are slightly more evolved than humans on Earth.”
“How so?”
“Humans on planet Oberon are taller, stronger, faster, and more intelligent. We also have the ability to shape-shift.”
“But you’re like 5’8.”
“On planet Oberon, you’re considered to be a little person at 5’8.”
After about a half-hour of talking, Dr. Houser went into the hallway to speak to my adopted parents and Martha. Through the little window of the door, I saw my parents give Dr. Houser some money. Dr. Houser then re-entered the room.
“Well, Monica, as I told your parents”, Dr. Houser said, “I think that you should stay at the hospital for a few days for further evaluation.”
“But I’m not dangerous”, I said.
“I didn’t say you were. We just like to keep you here for a few days to get to know you better.”
“Oh, I see. My parents paid you to keep me in here. How much did they pay you, 2 or 3 thousand dollars?” My adopted parents were rich.
I then turned my attention to Martha.
“You”, I said, “You manipulated me, Mom and Dad. How could you do this? I’ll kill you!”
I then attacked Martha. However, I was restrained by the orderlies. Obviously this was a stupid mistake on my part. It was even dumber for me to tell these doctors my story about where Martha and I came from. So due to a combination of Martha manipulating everybody, money, and my mistake, I became a patient at the Brookfield Mental Hospital.
One day, I had an appointment with a new doctor, Dr. Noble.
“So, how did you and your sister end up on Earth?” Dr. Noble asked.
“We fell down a plot hole”, I said.
“What’s a plot hole?”
“It’s a hole in the space time continuum. Not only can they bring you anywhere in time and space, but they can bring you to alternate dimensions and they can alter reality as well.”
While Dr. Noble was writing down what I said, I couldn’t help but to wonder why she was so interested in planet Oberon.
“Monica, the last time we spoke you told me about your home-world”, Dr. Noble said. “Could you tell me more?”
“Of course”, I said. “In the Earth year 420 A.D, Kratos scientists invented a machine that controls time called Kronos. But the country of Libertas wanted to take that machine away from us. I guess their government was afraid of what our government might do with it or something. So years later, the President of Libertas declared war on Kratos, which is still happening. Not only have they’ve stolen and hidden Kronos, but they have stolen our oil as well. In fact, they have stolen oil in every country in the Southeast.”
I then stopped to catch my breath.
“I would like to point out that Kronos does more than just control time”, I said. “You can also use it to see into alternate timelines of the past, present and future.”
“Why would scientists invent such as a machine?” Dr. Noble asked.
“On Oberon, kids can alter reality by using their imagination. So Kronos was invented as a method of fixing any alterations to reality. It’s complicated to explain. But now that Kronos is hidden somewhere, who knows what can happen?”
Dr. Noble puts down her pen and clipboard.
“Well I’ve heard enough for one day”, Dr. Noble said.
“Why are you so interested in my story?” I asked.
“Well, you wanted to somebody to listen to you, so that’s why I’m here.”
“No, I want my sister to believe me. But thanks to her I'm here.”
Dr. Noble then got up from her chair.
“Anyway, I have some paperwork to do" she said. "’ll leave you alone.”
Dr. Noble then left my room. As I lay down on my bed, I couldn’t help but notice that Dr. Noble seemed familiar. It was the same feeling I got when I first met Kevin.
The Dream Realm
Later on that night, I had a strange dream. In that dream, I was outside of the hospital. But I was also in Central Park at the same time. In front of me, there was Dr. Noble, sitting on a bench. I sat down next to her.
Do you know why you felt so comfortable telling me, Dr. Kaufman your life story without a second thought?” Dr. Noble asked.
“No”, I replied.
"It's because you're a good judge of character. Also, do I seem familiar to you?"
“Yes."
“Why do you think that is?”
Then it hit me like a ton of bricks.
“You doctors from planet Oberon, aren’t you?” I asked.
“Not all of us”, Dr. Noble said. “It’s just me, Dr. Houser, and Dr. Kaufman. We spent years trying to determine if we can trust you.”
“I don’t understand.”
“We believe that Kronos is located somewhere within the tri-county area. We also think that your sister knows where it is. So we need your help in locating it.”
“This is ridiculous, this is just a dream.”
I then tried to pinch myself to wake up. But Dr. Noble puts her hand over my arm to stop me.
“You’re right”, Dr. Noble said, “this is just a dream. But I actually am contacting you through this dream.”
“Sure”, I said, “okay.”
“I have an appointment with you tomorrow morning. When I see you, I’ll have a a green pen in my coat pocket. My hair will also be cut to shoulder length. If you see all of this will you believe me?”
“Maybe.”
The next morning, I had my appointment with Dr. Noble. When she entered my room, I was shocked by what I’ve seen. Dr. Noble had a green pen in her coat pocket, and her hair was cut to shoulder length, just like she said in my dream!
"So, Monica", Dr. Noble said, "did you sleep well?"
"Not bad", I said. "I had a weird dream last night. When I woke up I started to wonder if dream telepathy is possible."
"Well, there's no scientific evidence to support this, but some people do believe that. There's also this one outlandish belief about dreams. but you don't want to hear about it."
"Yes I do."
"Okay, Well, some people believe that there are multiple Universes, and each Universe has different realms. The two biggest realms are the Physical Realm and the Spiritual Realm. Then there's The Dream Realm and the Shadow.
Of all the conversations Dr. Noble and I have had, I actually enjoyed this one. Clearly Dr. Noble was giving me valuable information.
Later that night, I had another conversation with Dr. Noble in the Dream Realm. In this dream, we were at Disney Land on Oberon.
"Why should I help you look for this time machine?" I asked.
"If you find Kronos, the Warlord will reward you", Dr. Noble said. "You can go back and time and change your past, if you want."
"I would love to do that. But this war you're involved in is not my own."
"This isn't about war, it's about love."
I paused for a moment and I looked at Dr. Noble like she had ten heads.
"What are you blathering about?" I asked.
"Are you familiar with Greek mythology?"
"Yes".
"Okay, you see, thousands of years ago, Kronos, the Greek god of time, escaped from Tartarus. He found refuge on the planet Oberon. There, he fell in love with Glacier, Oberon's goddess of war, and Kratos' warlord. But when Zeus found Kronos in 420 A.D, Zeus trapped Kronos inside the time machine Kratos scientists were working on. That's how we believe the time machine we call Kronos works."
I busted out laughing.
"That is the most ridiculous story I've ever heard!" I said. "You have a bigger imagination than my seven-year-old niece, Emily! AndI thought I was nuts. Tell me, how in the blue hell did you manage to become a psychologist?"
"Don't mock my beliefs!" Dr. Noble said.
"What do you mean?"
"Basically, the majority of people on Oberon are polytheists. What that means is that they believe in multiple gods. I'm one of the people that believe that all gods exists."
"I'm sorry."
"That's okay."
"So tell me more about what you believe in."
"I'll do you one better, I'll show you."
In The Beginning
In the dream we've shared, Dr. Noble showed me projections of what she believed in.
"Some people believe that The One Being creating the Universe", Dr. Noble said. "But others believe that two beings created it. These two beings go by many names. We call them Tempus and Matura. But they are commonly referred to as Father Time and Mother Nature. When the Universe was created, so were other deities. We believe that all of the gods and goddesses and the Universe are one with the Universe. While these gods and goddesses are one with the Universe, they can take up any form they want."
Dr. Noble then handed me a book entitled "The Verum".
"What's this?" I asked.
"It's the scriptures of my religion", Dr. Noble said. "I can give you a copy of the book when you get out of the hospital if you want."
"No thanks."
"That's up to you. Anyway, we need to figure out a plan to find the location of Kronos. The first step is to get you out of the hospital."
That's when the dream ended.
Throughout the next few weeks, I've been doing my best to convince the hospital that I wasn't a danger to myself and everyone around me. In the meantime, I kept thinking of a plan to find out where Kronos was located. I was stumped. The only thing I could think of was to escape. But how could I possibly pull this off?
"Can I have a day pass?" I asked Dr. Noble, one day.
"Sure", she said.
That day, I was released from the hospital on a day pass.
As I made my way to my sister's house, I started to think of how she was responsible for me ending up in a mental hospital. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted revenge; the more I drove myself crazy.
After about a total of walking for a half hour and a total of an hour of riding the bus, I finally made it to Martha's house. I slowly approached the front door and I listened in to a conversation between Martha, Larry, and larry's father, Frank.
"We'll help you find a place to stay", Larry said.
"Don't bother", Frank said, "I'll be out of here by tonight."
I then peeked into the window, and I saw Frank walk out of the living room.
"What else can go wrong?" Larry said.
I rang the doorbell.
"I'll get it", Martha said.
Martha answered the door.
"I'm back!" I said.
I slowly walked up towards Martha.
"I don't know if I should hug you or kill you!" I said.
Suddenly, I was knocked out.
When I woke up, I was back in mental hospital.
"It's clear that we can't trust you", Dr. Noble said. "You're so focused on getting revenge on your sister, that you just can't see the bigger picture, can you?"
"Wait", I said, "give me another chance."
"I'll give you another chance, but you have to do one thing for me."
"What's that?"
Dr. Noble handed me a book.
"Read it", she said.
That book was entitled "The Verum".
