For all multi-level pore-water samples collected along the depth profiles, the concentrations of DOC and DON and the C peak increased toward the bay and from the surface to the deepest
SCH900776 layer (Fig. 3). In addition, these values were lower for the lower-salinity water samples (Fig. 5A–C). These components showed a significant positive correlation with one another (Fig. 6A–B). The concentrations of DOC in the deeper sandy layer were one order of magnitude higher than those in the pore-water of the muddy layer below the sandy layer (station C, avg.: 113 ± 51 μM, n = 4), as well as those in the overlying seawater (Table 1 and Fig. 3). Thus, DOM (described by DOC, DON, and C peak) in
ecological niche STE seems to be produced mainly in the layers of the sandy aquifers, particularly in the deep layer (Fig. 2 and Fig. 3), and is likely of marine origin. This trend is similar to the trend for DOC enrichment observed in the deeper layer of a sandy aquifer in the Gulf of Mexico (Santos et al., 2009).
