In this video I wanted to answer one of the most frequently asked questions I get from anyone looking into Satellite Phones in Australia. The question is simply “How can I receive an sms or text message without it costing anyone to my satellite phone”?
So Lets get straight into it:
Both of the current networks within Australia (being Thuraya and Iridium) have and allow you to receive and send sms from any of their Satellite phones.
However in our experience it is imperative that if the sms is urgent or requires that it must get through then request confirmation from the recipient that they received it.
The reason is that it is not uncommon for sms or text messages as they are sometimes know to get lost in space. It may simply be that your satellite phone wasn’t on when it was sent and fro some unknown reason when you turned it on it wasn’t received.
So a tip if you are sending or receiving an sms just ask for confirmation that they got it or send them one saying you got it.

Sms or texting form a satellite phone can vary in cost from $1.00 to $2.00 for each sms so please shop around if that is an important part of you usage.

Also check if it costs for you to receive and sms or text, you’ll be surprised by the answers from each dealer or network.
But there is a way for you to receive sms or text messages without it costing you or the person who is sending the message from both of current satellite phone networks within Australia.
