It was there that he met one of the few kind people that would stay in his life. A neighbor girl spotted the run away. Concerned for him, she reached out and tried to befriend him. After a few hours, she managed to get James to tell her his name and realized that James father and her father had served together. She pleaded with him to stay put until she would return with something for him to eat. James was unaware that she would be fetching James father before James could stray any farther from home.
