It was nearing lunch by the time that Tara made her way back towards the gully where she'd left Seth. She expected that by now he'd be gone and was surprise to see otherwise.
When she returned to the campsite, his shirt and pants were hanging off of a low branch of a nearbye tree. He was in his shorts in the river, coming back up for air when she showed up. He took a deep breath, looking disappointed. "Why do fish have to be so fast? I'm starving!"
"Then ye might want to opt fer berries as it seems ye've got no luck with fishin'" She answered with a bit of a laugh at the sight of him.
With a look of shock, he jumped at her voice, startled by the sudden realization that he wasn't alone. He looked up at her, a little embarrassed. "Oh! I didn't notice you come back!" he looked down at the water, heading back to the shore to get back into his clothes. "Berries sound a lot easier. These fish are too fast, and the water's cold, so I'm starting to feel a little numb..." he said
"I'll go gather some.. go dry off."
He nodded, grabbing his clothes. "Thanks. I'd probably have starved to death on my own out here without you!" He said with a kind smile.
"Or been mauled by the cougar I chased away last night." she commented offhandedly.
He stopped his tracks, looking up at her with a nervous look. "There was a cougar? I didn't even know those were in these woods!" he said. He looked a bit stunned by this information.
"Aye and that's what makes them a deadly predator. Ye rarely know they are there until they.. pounce!" She jumped towards him a bit at the last word.. to startle him.
He yelped in surprise and stumbled backwards a little bit, nearly tripping, but managed to keep his footing with the help of the same tree branch he'd hung his clothes on. He was definitely startled. "Th-then... I guess I owe you my life!" he said with a nervous grin, steadying himself.
Tara shrugged. "Ye ken repay the favour someday." Then headed off to find some of them berries while he dressed.
He pulled his shirt on, using it as a sort of towel as he did, not caring if it was wet. Once he got his pants and shoes back on, he decided to start looking for berries himself, but he knew not to eat any without asking her first. He didn't know the difference between the poison ones and the safe ones, though he figured she would.
