Updatingness and snow in Upper Hutt!
Once again, I have been extremely slack about keeping up with my Journal entries. So I'll try to do a quick recap here for you.

I no longer do my teaching job at Musical Stars. I finished up at the end of Term 2, and still haven't been paid for the term yet, but that's another story. I don't really know exactly how I ended up leaving. I had my Thursday hours cut out partway through the term, Talita just told me one week, "Hey, by the way, from the start of June, Trudy will be working with the kids on the Into The Woods show rehearsals." I took that to mean I was going back to teaching theatre sports and other drama stuff, but when I turned up on the first Thursday in June, Talita was surprised to see me and was like, "Oh, didn't I make it clear? I don't need you on Thursdays anymore."

I should have been disappointed, but I wasn't. Teaching just wasn't my thing. It was stressful, the kids were so full on, and I was regularly getting headaches after each afternoon of teaching. But I continued to work Wednesday afternoons in Karori for the rest of the term.

So it got to the last lesson in Karori at the end of the term, and Talita says to me that this other lady will be coming in next term. At first I assumed she was taking over the dance classes, because the dance teacher Sasha had left the previous week because she's moving overseas. But then she asked me if I'd had fun, and I said yes, and that the songs/dances for the show the kids were working on were starting to look really good. And she said to me, "You should come see the show" and I was like, "Yeah, absolutely."

I didn't think much about it, but when I thought about it later it occurred to me that that was an odd thing for her to say if she was expecting me back next term. Plus I also realised that this new teacher probably wasn't taking over Sasha's classes, because that last week the Lower Hutt dance teacher had come in and taken the dance classes with the kids in Karori. So it occurred to me that once again she had attempted to tactfully tell me she didn't need me, and I hadn't clicked what she meant.

The thing was, I had been planning to leave anyway. I was over teaching. I was over yelling at kids constantly, getting backchat, feeling tired, getting headaches, knowing that I sucked at teaching because the kids wouldn't do what I told them to do. I had been seriously considering telling Talita I was leaving at the end of term anyway.

So I wasn't too bothered. Anyway, Term 3 started, I haven't been to teaching at all, and I'm still waiting for Talita to pay me for last term.

I am for now still working at Burger King, still working at Farmers, and still teaching Gilby singing once a week.

But...maybe not for long. More about that soon.

Various fun events have happened recently. At the end of June, we had a Midwinter Christmas party at our place. Me, Tuts, Lisa, Nerida and Whattie all got rather drunk and ate a roast that I cooked (my first time ever cooking a roast, and it turned out really well). Plus I made eggnog, using a recipe I found online. Was really good.

A couple of weeks ago it was Lisa's birthday, so we had the party at our place because there's no much room at her 'place', and by place I mean the little sleepout she lives in at the back of her parents' place, which is really just a bedroom with a fridge and a few other kitchen type bits and pieces in it. So yeah, it was another drinking type party. Lisa, Nerida and Jason came, and a couple of Lisa's other friends, who incidentally were both called Katrina. At the Midwinter Christmas party, Lisa had brought this big bottle of pre-mixed Sex on the Beach, and we didn't end up drinking all of it and it was left in our fridge. Unbeknownst to me, Tuts also added a bottle of cream that was in our fridge (I had planned to use it in the eggnog) into the Sex on the Beach bottle. So when I pulled it out a month later to drink at Lisa's birthday, the bottle contained month old cream mixed with month-old Sex on the Beach.

As a result of me and Tuts drinking it, and drinking various other drinks too, we both got a bit sick later that night. But it was a great night nevertheless.

In other news, Whattie ex-girlfriend Sam is due to have her baby any day now. Whattie will soon be a Dad, the first parent in the group. That will be really exciting for him.

Anyway. Last night, I came home from work at Farmers. I was starting to think about preparing dinner and doing the dishes before picking up Tuts from work, when my Dad texted me to announce it was snowing. Sure enough, it was snowing all over Upper Hutt. Not just all over Upper Hutt, but all over most of the Wellington region and some other parts of the country too.

Now to put this in perspective, according to the news, it hasn't actually, properly snowed in Wellington since 1976. My parents have lived in Upper Hutt most of their lives, and have little to no recollection of there ever being snow here. I mean okay, the hills around Upper Hutt get covered in snow every Winter on particularly cold days. And we get occasional hail and sleet storms here in the town. But actual snow? Nope. Not here. Not since I've been alive.

I've seen a lot of snow. I mean, my parents have been taking me skiing up on Mt Ruapehu regularly every Winter since I was five years old. I've also seen snow on the ground in Ohakune, the town right next to Mt Ruapehu, and down in the South Island I've seen snow in Queenstown and even Christchurch. But it's a whole other thing to see my hometown blanketed in snow.

It was pretty exciting. After I picked up Taina from work, we went home, put on our warm jackets, grabbed our cameras and went for a walk to Silverstream and back at 9pm in the dark to take photos of the snow. It was cool.

This morning I had to get up early, because my car was due to go into the garage and get its Warrant of Fitness today. I was expecting the snow to all have melted, but in fact, it was starting to snow again and my windscreen was covered in a thick layer of snow.

I dropped my car off at the garage, which is around the corner from my parents house, so after that I walked to their place rather than going home. Once I got to their place, I grabbed their camera and went for another walk. Someone had built a big snowman in the middle of Pine Ave. Kids at St Josephs school were having snowball fights on the school field. My parents' hedge had a thick line of snow all along the top of it. And lawns everywhere were white. The footpaths were slippery.

I took a bunch of photos and then came back to my parents' place. With nothing else to do, and with Mum at home because she didn't want to go to work in all the snow, we decided to play Mahjjong.

To be continued...

I guess that's the one thing i'm glad i'm not there for. The iced up slippery ground. Due to genetics, i'd surely fall on my arse often, and from this height, it hurts like a b***h.

As for the work stuff business thing, yeah, that's bullshit. If you're letting someone go, you should at least tell them in a direct, obvious way.
