Some will claim that
Behind the eye,
Or in and of itself,
Lies the gateway to the soul
Some will say it shows
The darkness in one's heart
Some will say that when you
Close your eyes to rest
You dream of an afterlife
Or you see beyond mortal places
Some will state that
Darkness is all the awaits
And when you open them
Once more, you find
Bright, shining light
In stories and novels
The Eye represents so many
And holds such significance
You look into your partner's
Eyes for their love and affection
The Mind's Eye, The Third Eye
All these names and yet
As I close my eyes
Whether to sleep or blink
I find only a shroud awaiting
To cover my eyes
In a blanket of pure black
So I ask now of you
What lays behind your eyes?
Shall you find light, dark, your soul?
Or something entirely different
That no soul could see but you?
What will you say about it?
Shall you divulge your findings?
Or keep it all to yourself?
