Rest your wings my butterfly..."
Every night, from the age of thirteen to seventeen, I braided my hair in two long braids that fell to my waist. Every morning, I would wake up and either brush them out, or leave the hair in the tight waves that these braids produced. When I was seventeen, I cut them off.
I was dealing with some heavily personal issues, something that had happened that changed my life when I was fourteen. I was at the point in the process of working through these issues that I needed a change. Some might think the change I made was drastic and dramatic, but it worked. It helped me find my way through the struggle and I came out whole again, a wiser person better able to cope with the curve-balls life inevitably throws your way.
Tonight, I braided my hair in two long braids.
