Phoenix Random Things
I write things and you don't read them. We both win!
A story idea.
The first part of the book takes place in a prologue. The protagonist is sleeping in his own, saying good night to his wife as they both begin to drift off to sleep. Time passes by and the main begins to get a fairly bad headache, waking up sometime around 4am in the morning. He goes to his washroom and looked in the mirror tiredly, his eyes bloodshot and worn. He sighed softly before he notices some weird black things dripping from the wall and goes to check it. Before he can react the black goo attacks him and cuts his hand deeply, and the protagonist begins to freak the ******** out. Soon his washroom turns into this strange bizarre nightmare world and something behind him attacks. But on the wall he sees the corpses of his wife and son on the wall. Enraged, he attacks the two monsters that he sees in a blind fury and manages to kill the larger one, only to find him knocked in the head with something hard and passes out. When he wakes up, he is surrounded by the monsters he had attacked in his home, all gurgling and moaning at him. They throw him in some strange room where he can't get out, and nothing but gruesome images are shown on the wall. Trying to hide himself in the corner, he remains there without a word, his mind shattered by what he is forced to see daily.

The next chapter would ideally begin about twenty years later, still the man’s perspective. He's gone mad from being kept in confinement, his mind warped by what they have shown him over the years. The man he once was is gone, broken by his never ending nightmare, yet every night he screams out for his wife and child back, he screams at the monsters to give him final rest by letting him be by his family in death. But they never give him freedom; they merely force him to live on day after day, their disgusting forms mocking him as they stare on from the door. One in particular comes back every day, muttering dark whispers into his mind. But he is confined; his arms and legs bound together by some strange contraption, and more than once he has pleaded to the monsters to just let him go. Yet nothing is given, and in the end, only his sobs can be heard.

The next chapter is from the perspective of the 'monster'. In reality the man went insane for some strange reason, killing his wife and nearly killing his child in the process. The protagonist is in an asylum, being taken care of by the staff there. For the last twenty years they have made sure the man is kept away from the others to ensure that he doesn't go insane and murder the rest of them, and the one taking care of the man is none other than the Fathers son.. The Son is bitter towards what his father put him through as a child and hates him more than he can say, going as far to get HATRED tattooed on his back. Every day he takes care of his insane father, listening to his insane ramblings and plots of revenge against the 'monsters'. Every day he makes sure his father is fed and makes sure that the man doesn't kill himself when they aren't looking. This chapter would revolve primarily around how he has become part of a cycle he can't find himself escaping from, and every day his resentment against his father raises a notch.

From here on the focus shifts to both characters with a few side characters appearing and helping out the Son. The Father is given an experimental medication that makes his hallucinations almost ten times worse but lets him almost regain sanity for just a few moments before the pain takes over and beastly screams emit from his cell. During those times the Son talks to him and tries to tell him what has happened, but with each dosage the pain becomes worse and worse, his hallucinations beginning to let him see the corpse of his wife with him strangling her. The Father believes that the Asylum staffs are trying to break him even further and refuses to do much, screaming that he will find his revenge one day, before the pain kicks in.

Eventually through a few more chapters of medication and talking, the Son begins to realize that his father truly did care for his son when he spends almost a month listening to his father sob about how he just wants his family back. But he still hates him for what he did and that he's trapped alongside him in a hell he did not want, the realization that his father is still there somewhere in all his insanity.

Eventually the Father realizes, through faint memories and the medication, just what he had done that night twenty years ago. He manages, in a brief moment of clarity, to tell his son that he is sorry before the medicine makes him see the world as nothing but a grotesque horror once more, but in that moment also realizing that he had trapped his son alongside him because of the fact he was still alive. If the Son had truly hated him, then there would be no reason for him to be there alongside him taking care of him day after day. In the second last chapter, the Father manages to convince the son to leave him be that day with his own food and to let him feed himself, giving him just a little semblance of normalcy after this long. The son hesitantly complies but makes sure that security is kept around him just in case he falls back and tries to kill someone. But instead the Father takes his own life, hoping that his death would let his son be free... and letting him repay his sins in blood. Before he bleeds to death and before the security manages to get in the room and save his life, the Father manages to write down, in his own blood, 'live on'.

The Epilogue would be a few pages, but it would tell how the son had been after his father’s suicide. He still works at the Asylum, but for some strange reason it seemed to the other members of the staff that he was... as if a weight had been lifted from his back. Before the book would end, the readers would be shown that the tattoo of HATRED had been removed, and instead in its place would be FORGIVEN
