As he leaned over to tell me the truth, I pulled away because the truth was too much.
THIS EVERLASTING NIGHT== Chapter 1~ part 1
It was as if the moon had been dunked in a pool of blood and then hung out to dry. Kina gazed up at the sky with spite, knowing that tonight a babe had been slaughtered, and worst of all, she could have stopped it. If only her strength would grow, she could prevent the moon from ever again being red with bloodlust. Choruses of howls meshed with the cold night; creatures of the night thrived for this. Kina shivered, and then beat her head on the wall a few times. Maybe if she could knock herself out they would all go away. Maybe the demons would leave her alone for once. Dry sobs cracked through her lips- tears were a commodity that were few and far between. "Janse wouldn’t be so week", she thought. "He is much better at keeping his cool. What is wrong with me?" She recovered quickly and stood straight, listening to the joyous cries of evil creatures who skulked around in dark corners. "Perhaps if I wasn’t aware that they were here they would actually leave"… It was a possibility Kina would have to explore later-she couldn’t afford being unconscious right at this moment, with the night approaching—much later. Many things are possible in this world of make-believe-gone-awry, but how much you can achieve depends on what you choose to believe. At first, Kina simply could not accept that there was magic of any sort. Tattered and bruised, she came-to from that fantasy; her wildest dream used to be finding out that she was magical. Now it’s quite the opposite. "I want to go home" she sulked silently. She fled to a little coffee shop down the street. A bell rang as she entered and the barista, named Kaci by what it said on the tag pined to her apron, greeted her. She ordered a triple shot iced latte and sat down at her usual table in the corner near the back. Apparently somebody had sat there earlier that day because the Sunday Times on the table was open to the Arts section.
"I’m s-so cold…" she thought and fell into a deep slumber and slept until the barista came to wake her.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~*~*~*~*~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke with a jolt. The dreams were getting worse, more colorful, more believable, and worst of all more painful. I was slightly sweaty and my back ached- most likely from thrashing in my sleep for the past month. I got out of bed and crossed the room to the thermostat mounted on the wall. No wonder I was sweating, it was 81 degrees in here; I turned it to cool and pressed the down arrow until the LCD screen read 70 degrees Fahrenheit, a comfortable temperature for me, the life- long north westerner. Until recently anyway. My best friend Janse and I moved to Florida looking for jobs, but all we found was some long- lost relatives and a crappy studio apartment. That was about a year and a half ago.
