All the MIMZY were the borogroves
Mimzy might say something this way, or she might say something that way, but either way you go is the queen's way.
Awakening
I woke up changed. I could feel it. Something, or somethings were not right. Opening my eyes, I gripped the cold steel of the examination table beneath me, shivering slightly as I felt it envelop my back through the thin layer of the surgical gown. The lights glared into my eyes, and I squinted, trying to survey my surroundings. I could hear no heart monitor, and could feel no pulse check on my fingers. I wondered if I was deaf or numb, but as I sat up slowly, the only thing joining me in the white room was a window, through which I could see only a reflection of myself. One way mirror. Wonderful. I thought, rolling my eyes. I swung my legs down, so they extended to the floor, my toes shrinking back slightly at the feel of the linoleum, freezing, as everything else seemed to be in the room. I hadn't been surprised yet, the government was a bland place, full of secrets, and now I had become part of that. I wondered if following my friends here was a good idea, but only for a moment. Of course it had been....hadn't it? I mean, they hadn't mentioned anything about group A, other than the fact that they survived the surgery as well. My back stung, and I winced as I traced the sore spots. Of course they had mentioned the tattoo was a thing that they "must place on us, for our own safety." I stood, walking slowly around the room, with not much decoration, it was natural to stray towards the only other different thing in the room. I peered into the glass, finding only myself peering back. I huffed, my breath fogging up the glass, as I stormed away from the mirror. I stared at the painted white door, with its steel handle. I knew it would be cold, like everything else in the room had been. I ran my finger gently against the handle, and decided to give it a strong pull. The door ripped open, and I was flung backwards a short distance as a result of the force I had used to yank it. I strode rapidly towards the door, catching it just before it closed. I glanced down the long, dark hallway that lay in front of me. No guards were standing watch from what I could see, and in the room adjacent to where I was standing, the door was shut. No one had bothered to open the door, so they were either not there, or asleep. I guessed the latter, so I remained as quiet as a ghost as I stepped out of the white room, my eyes adjusting to the darkness at an alarming rate. Was this part of the surgery? Is this what they were doing to us? As I shut the door as quietly as possible, I noticed the lock shattered. Had I done that? I let it close the rest of the way by itself. Someone was bound to have heard a noise I couldn’t have, the room must have been soundproofed, for everything was louder in the hallway. I could hear footsteps, but I still couldn’t see anyone, so I raced down the hallway, approaching the bend in the path faster than I could have imagined. I stopped as the wall turned, hidden around the corner. The footsteps sounded like the person was just on the other side of the corner, so I glanced nervously around the wall. Not a soul was in sight. Confused, I tiptoed around the corner and continued on down the next hallway. There was a door at the end, with light streaming out from a crack at the bottom of the frame. I approached the door; the footfalls were so loud, I thought my ears would burst. Squeezing my eyes shut, I collapsed against the door, jamming my hands over my ears. The person walking must have heard me slam, because my solid wall fell away from me, and I curled into a fetal position in the light, which I could feel through my eyelids. The person grabbed me under my arms, and I was dragged along somewhere and set on a comfortable seat. I opened my eyes, hearing a little less noise than before. I uncovered my ears slightly, my hands creating shells over my ears, which made everything louder, so I took them away from my ears altogether. Facing me was a man in a lab coat and he smiled gently. “Good evening. Have your wings sprouted yet?” He questioned seriously, as I gaped and stared at him, shocked beyond belief.
