BLAG, BLAG BLAG BLAG. That is all.
Random Happenings: Game Reviews - MGS 4
Started playing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. So far, I've only just started the second act. I have to say, though, that I did enjoy the graphics, the difficulty, and the weaponry realness.

What I don't appreciate is the fact that all my weapons suck. I have an M4 Custom with a scope and terrible range, an MK 23 pistol, and a Mosin Nagant sniper rifle. That, along with a machine gun, and only one piece of head/body camo, makes for a terrible playthrough. I'm trying not to get caught, y'see. It's very hard.

It all starts with a ridiculously long intro scene about Old Snake rambling about how war sucks because of all the artificial perfections made to modern day soldiers, making them combat masters without trying, while he (Snake) is forced to do things the traditional way - no Nanomachines or S.O.P.s involved.

Until he meets Drebin, a gun launderer. Y'see, guns in MGS4 are all tagged. If you don't match the identity tag on the gun, it locks up and prevents you from using it. Drebin de-tags the guns for your personal use, since, y'know, Snake isn't a part of any PMC military effort or Rebel faction. He's a Black Ops. guy.

After a suppressive shot from Drebin, Snake can now use untagged guns, but he is now able to fall victim to Liquid Ocelot's secret Nanomachine - infecting virus thingy that makes all the soldiers go nuts and start killing each other, hurling on themselves, frothing at the mouth... you get the idea. The only people not infected are Ocelot, Naomi, and Rat Patrol Team 01's rookie member, Johnny "Akiba", who has major pants-crapping issues.

Oh, did I mention the FROG soldiers? They're part of Ocelot's private military. They're an all-female soldier type, enhanced in ability by Nanomachines, heavily armored, and armed with kick-a** ninja tricks.

And then there's the B&B Brigade - a group of four mentally tormented ladies strong enough to wipe out a freakin' tank, yet they can't beat Snake. Figure THAT one out. I know who they are, too: Laughing Octopus, Crying Wolf, Raging Raven, and Screaming Mantis. All of whom were bosses from MGS 1, I believe. Laughing Octopus has tentacles that crush you like a ball of dried mud, Crying Wolf has a back-mounted rifle and heavy armor, Raging Raven can fly and shoot missiles, and Screaming Mantis can possess people. Bad things ensue.

OH. MY. ********. GEKKOS.

GEKKOs are unmanned walking dynamic tanks, pretty much. They moo - to make themselves sound more threatening - they have lasers, miniature cameras on wires, and are armored with bullet-proof plating. You have to aim for their legs to hurt them.

Those are the only enemies I know right now.

I find myself crawling more than anything else. This game is all about stealth, you can't just run out in the open with all guns blazing. You know, unless you prefer death, and Otacon screaming in your ear "Snake? Snake?! SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!"

I, for one, do not.

By the way, Otacon actually looks relatively COOL in this game. But you only ever see him when you're talking with him in your earpiece, or when you're engaging contact via the miniature spy bot, Mk. II. Mk. II is a little helper: He can stealth, pick up bombs, alert you to enemy presence, give you rations, weapons... Yeah. He's nice like that. But he's a bit of a nut - when you're not using him, he wigs out all over the screen and flops around on his side when he falls over, and his little camera arm flaps around all over the place.

I laughed fairly hard when I got the B&B head camo each time I killed a member of the B&B Brigade.

I'm kinda' tired right now, so I'll leave you with this little MGS joke I heard:

Otacon: Snake?
Otacon: Snake?!
Otacon: SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-

Snake: WHAT?! I'm right here! God!
Snake: How would you like it if I started screaming YOUR name, huh?
Snake: Otacon?
Snake: Otacon?!
Snake: OTACOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-

Otacon: SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-

Snake: -OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-

Otacon: -AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-

General: -Raiden.
