I have read one mother declaring that she is pulling her daughter from this site because of Gaia's decision to post these seedy sponsors. Any parent with a lick of sense would do the same.
Amidst the chaos, I have managed to find one thread praising Gaia's efforts to hand out free GC.
Arcadia Roseblood in her thread offers a much safer, more satisfying solution to the sponsor problem.
I can't force people not to use these sponsors to earn GC, but I myself will instead continue to enjoy Gaia without caving into the temptation. I also will not buy any GC for awhile. If they are giving it out for free, then I see no point in buying it any longer. I was under the impression that selling GC was one of Gaia's ways of earning money.
I buy one 10$ cash card a month if I can afford it. Now users have a chance to instantly earn 2k+ GC. However, they do so by relinquishing personal information and risking identity theft, constant e-mail spamming, and the aforementioned trojans. This quote sums up my feelings on this matter.

Yes it's a bit of a slap to the face to know I've bought cash cards and now that someone signs up for a sketchy site they'll get a hell of a lot of free cash. If they want to be spammed and give out their information that's fine, hope they enjoy their dirty cash. But this is just a bad way all around.

Lol. Not long after I posted this entry, this announcement came. Do they really think that giving us a free halo and a new contest will make up for all of this chaos? I do appreciate the free halo, but it's sort of like apologizing to someone for purposely running over their dog and still feeling no remorse for it. It feels insincere.
Now people are complaining about the re-release of the Angelic Halo. I couldn't give a damn less about this, so I have nothing to comment about it. I just think it's amusing that they chose this time to take time out to "appreciate" us.

Ahh, I knew I'd see this thread pop up at least once-- it always happens if we do something that people don't like followed by something people do like.
It would actually be fairly awesome if we could put together something like this in three hours whenever something didn't go over well, but actually the halo giveaway thing has been in development for a few weeks and it was mere coincidence alone that made it launch at the same time as the offer thing.
Edit: with the offers, by the way, we're working hard to yank out all the ones that people are saying contain virus stuff. Obviously that stuff isn't cool with us. I think we'll have a formal reporting thread for that very soon (or maybe we do already and I haven't noticed).

I'm glad CC cleared that up. I appreciate his comment and I retract the what I said about the contest/giveaway being a flimsy way of trying to mop up the chaos from the "free" GC. Here's the thread it was on if anyone happens to be reading this entry and wants to see for themself.
