Dreams and Nightmares from the red moon!
A small trip into the mind of one strange individual
Are you there for me?
He sat there laying on his parents couch, coughing, tossing and turning, just waiting for the next moment where he could get some peace and quiet sleep. But there were a few obstacles preventing him from such a gift at that moment, another coughing fit was just around the corner and he was just waiting to get it over with. His father was on the opposite side of the wall where his temporary bed stood, he was fighting the bank on the phone over a late charge, and was losing.

It was already peaceful enough but Zach wanted more out of the day, maybe something to eat, or just to be able to sleep for more than an hour before being woken up by the two dogs sleeping with him when they hear a tree branch scratch the window or the neighbor taking a stroll across the street. He had a dream earlier that he was with someone special, someone amazing, that one person that he could hold onto and would never have to worry while he had held them tightly. He dreamed that they were there holding him instead tending to his sickness, making jokes and smiling, just to help him get better, but his fever had not gone down in weeks. It was almost to the point of hospitalization again like they had to years ago when he was only a child.

A violent vibration woke him from his dream, and the dogs too. Their barking had only made the headache worsen. Zach's father had stopped yelling at the bank long enough to come out and see what it was this time that the dogs were barking at, Zach had not moved and merely pretended to be asleep throughout the commotion. He wished he could have slept a little longer before that interruption. Only a text message from someone. He could barely open his eyes let alone read something that could possible mean nothing at all. Zach's eyes focused and tried to read out what had been asked of him.

"...are...you still there...for me?", he repeated what the text had said. His eyes fluttered for a moment not believing what had been said, its been a long time since he had spoken to that person, and he still remembers in his chest the pain she left him, and he would only remember the bad things that had happened between them. and as he reminded himself all he could see was the pain she brought him, the moment she lied, the moments where she abandoned him that night his best friend passed away She told him she wanted to have a good night, and if he wasn't going to give it, maybe someone else might have, and that was the last he wanted to do with her.

She followed him for a while, trying to make it up to him, but how could one abandon a love at a time of need. He began to smoke again, and his lungs were hating him for the trouble he was causing himself. for a year he had smoked nonstop. and it brought him to this moment, he knew it and he wasn't going to put his parents through the trouble of worrying. He decided that when he had moved out the year before. It wasn't a fever, it was a reaction to the cancer he had developed, the only ones who knew was his best friend who had wanted him to stop smoking, then he passed and left him to himself. Lighting a cigarette every chance he finished another.

He had grown sick after a while and while laying to rest he had picked up some medicine that made him a little delirious and he always thought he had been visited by people or was talking to someone that was in truth not really there. A few special guests had visited him as he had a smoke break outside on his parents porch. "What are you doing? Didn't I tell you that those things would kill ya one day?" they asked sitting next to him and snagging one for themselves. "Don't you want to live longer than a year?"

Zach sighed and took a long drag, blowing smoke slowly to feel that dizziness in his mind so that the cold chill would go away. "Nah I don't think I'll last another week guys...." he said smiling and looking at his two friends, the McCarry twins Sherry and Johnny, he had not seen them in a while, they haven't changed since the day they were in that terrible accident, "Better than me drinking no?" He finished the cigarette and was about to tell them about who tried to tak to him today, before he could get a word out they were already gone. Then he saw her standing there on his front lawn. "Tori...", he muttered. She began to walk towards him, with the saddest look on her face. He stepped back, and realized he had 2 lit cigarettes in his hand, were they the twins? Was he dreaming of all of this? Or were they really there...

Then he felt his lungs expand in pain, his heart beat rapidly and he coughed nonstop till he collapsed running out of breath. A week, hah, there he was barely standing, letting the girl he once loved hold him as he was slowly dying that day. He suddenly felt her warmth, the feeling he had missed for so long, his mind had been stuck on the bad things between them, suddenly all he could think about was the day the two first met, their first dance, their first kiss...He held her hand as she tried to keep him awake. "I've always been here...waiting for you to say something...." his hand dropped, all he could see was the darkness, then a light fluttering and then nothing...

Zach had died that day, wondering if he could really make things work for an unhappy girl who thought that she had it all without him, but realized that she had nothing good if he was there to how her what those things were.
