I finished my book report today, about the book, "Unang Ulan ng Mayo" or in English, "First Rain of May". I find it a bit confusing, but it has humor inside, especially when Mrs. Gloria was defining the rats, mice and the biggest rat of all, whom she called, 'Ultima' for its power, size and its status that it was the rat she can't catch.

Then last Friday, we went to UMak or University of Makati, the college nearest to my high school, Makati Science High School or MakSci. We went to the theater to watch the play, "Kati". It was about the legend of Makati. It was okay, I guess, and we took pictures before it started. You wanna know its story? I'll just type it as a story because everything the actors and actresses say is in a form of a poem or a song. Here goes:

Once upon a time, when powerful immortals were roaming the place, Makati was a swampland. Water was everywhere in this place. Here lived a mortal who loved an immortal. The immortal's father pretended to be blind that he cannot see that his daughter loves a simple mortal, which was against their rules.

Then the immortal's leader, King Baraw, and his wife, Queen Bulan, learned of the love between the immortal girl and the mortal. They said to their subjects that they should punish the girl with all the mortals in that swampland. Kidlat struck lightning on the girl, and killed her. Her husband ran away with the remaining of his tribe mates and their son, Matikas, far from the rest of the immortal's knowledge. However, Agos made the water of the swampland rise, so that the mortals will not come back again.

Years later, Matikas grew to a handsome teen, befriending a bird that 'ebbs', or the 'ebbing bird'. But he always foresee what would happen to their land after years. He said to his father and their tribe mates, "The trees are glowing, made of what is called as 'metal'; there are animals of different sizes, emitting smoke from their bodies; there are new methods of transportation, they fly; and there are square mountains, they are filled with brilliant lights during the night." (I think he refers to the lampposts, cars and trucks, airplanes and helicopters, and houses of today)

They laughed at his forecasts. Nobody would want to believe him.

Some more years later and Matikas grew up to a strong man. Again he mentioned about his forecasts and this time, his father said to him that he could be a magical creature because he can see the future, his reflection is different from others (that might be the image of a bird; remember, he's a son of a human and a 'fairy') and such. Then Matikas decided to leave the tribe and search for his true identity and know his powers so that houses can be built in his father's birth land.

Meanwhile, Princess Tala Yban, daughter of King Baraw and Queen Bulan, said that she will meet and would like to help Matikas, the son of a mortal and an immortal. Her parents disagreed and grounded her from going outside.

One day, when Matikas was rowing his boat, he heard Princess Tala Yban's voice, singing. He stopped for a while to figure out who was that. Then the princess told Matikas her story and he set to find her.

He then landed somewhere and went to some of the immortals so he can go his way to the princess. He fought Lagablab, Hagibis, Agos, and Kidlat. He beat them all and personally met Princess Tala Yban. He freed her and then returned his father's land back to normal.

He and the princess became lovers and they went back to his homeland together with his tribe mates and father, but because her parents were angry at her, King Baraw and Queen Bulan cursed that they shall not be together and killed Princess Tala Yban and Matikas. The ebbing bird came and Matikas' soul joined the bird's body, because they were only one. Princess Tala Yban became the plant called talahib.

His father was devastated to see him dead, with the bird flying around them. Then on that day, the water was ebbing (kumakati). So from there on, the land was called Makati, where the water ebbs; the pure white bird lives, known as 'ebbing bird'; and the stars are shinning upon the talahib plants.
