Building routines... and finally trying out zOMG!
Mrraaau~! >3
So, for those who may not be on my friendlist, but have been trying to get hold of me, I have finally unblocked my PM's. I don't guarantee that this will last... that will depend upon how many PM's I get with people thinking I'm a moderator/administrator/developer. For now though, PM's are unblocked. ^.^

Part of what precipitated the unblocking of the PM's was that I finally went and tried out zOMG. I've never particularly cared one way or the other about 'the battle system', so I wasn't all hyped for it when it came out. I finally decided to try it out last Friday, since I'm not currently playing any other MMORPG's, having cancelled my WoW account about six months ago.

So, my take on it...
Pros
-I like the Ring system. I think it's kinda cool.
-I like the tutorial.
-I like the way that each window can be opened or closed and re-positioned at a whim.
-I like the 'animated' themselves. I think it's a great back-story for the game.
-I like the 'null' chamber and how you need to go back there to put on new rings/upgrade rings, etc.

Cons
-I don't like that the tutorial area has a bunch of extra stuff that can only be accomplished in that area, with no clues as to what these are unless you happen to read one of the unofficial guides. I don't like it, because there's no way to go back and do it if you miss it.

-I don't get the Ghi system. I understand that your Ghi goes up if you're around a lot of other players, in a town, or in a big group, and goes down if you're solo and/or not around many others. But I don't get what it does. All the tutorial covered was how to make it go up and down. What actual benefit there is to making it go up apparently I'll have to read a guide to find out. The tutorial failed to cover what 'ghi' abilities are, and/or how to use them?

-I don't like the navigation. Clicking with the mouse tends to lag, or it tends to be difficult to click in the correct spot, or it doesn't register, or your avatar doesn't go around obstacles well enough and gets stuck. Using the directional arrows on the keyboard, it's difficult to move the directions you need to go, since the maps are not built at 90 degree angles.

-I especially don't like that it's often hard to find my avatar on the map. Sometimes she's there, but I can't see her because there's a building in the way, or only her feet are visible. That's just very icky.

-I'm also not thrilled with the way that teaming up is mandatory for certain sections. Not because I don't like working in teams at all, but more because the people I want to play with are never on when I am. =/

So, that's my take on zOMG... for now. I have yet to make it past the village greens yet, so we'll see if any of my opinions change once I get a bit further along.

Building Routines...
So, the other thing that's been occupying me a lot, is getting personally organized and trying to build daily routines. I've -always- been bad at daily routines. I can keep to something for a couple of weeks, before something interrupts it, and then once it's been interrupted, the habit disappears completely and it's like starting again from scratch.

The last few months I've been putting a lot of effort into arranging my sleep schedule, building routines for what I do before work in the morning, what I do after work, what I do right before going to bed. Trust me, if these things are easy for you, I envy you. For me, it involves making lists, setting reminders and sometimes multiple alarms, trying to take extra care to remember if something else in my routine changes (like if I'm not home for the weekend), and even then... sometimes I lapse or forget (even without routine changes).

I think I'm making progress though. The time change seems to have helped me. I'm waking up at the same time, which is now an hour earlier in the morning, so that gives me a lot more time to get 'routine' tasks done. At the moment, my morning routine includes: Checking e-mail, doing DC (on all 9 mule accounts), 10-15 minutes on the Wii Fit, plus of course, getting breakfast, packing lunch, brushing my teeth, and dressing for work.

In economic news... my company is cutting the pay of all employees by 10%, and our landlord is raising the rent by $300 starting January 1st. Meh. That's it for now!

Kava. heart

I've only played zOmg once so far. Maybe I'll play it right now since other users are off for the time being...but it's pretty cute. I do like the story and the camaraderies between myself and the guild but I was always rather skeptical about the point of being more powerful as a group than alone. When ever I use Gaia's features (Towns, journals, games) not a lot of people are using those options. So I see less and less of my friends being in the same place I'm in, unless I'm looking in "My Gaia" page or my friendslist. Most of us are on the forum anyway.

I didn't care about the battle system either, even when they talked about it in 2004. My main dealio was in the forums. That's really the heart of Gaia. 3nodding

And, wow, I'm sorry for your pay cut! Many other companies are either doing that, firing people or going bankrupt (Circuit City and Mervyns for one) It's very depressing reading the news nowadays. I use to read and watch the news a lot but now... gonk I can't bring myself to watch it as consistently as I should. I'm trying to put more of an effort to do so now that the election is over but it's getting to be so bad. ugh

Good luck with your routines! It is rather hard to keep them unless you're use to doing them all the time. It sounds like you're keeping it up. (:

I know how you feel about routines. I have the same problem of late but it's because of my depression issues. xp

I really want to get some down but starting a new job and maybe school in January is going mess me up. xP

Oi, very much luck to you with the routines.

exclaim exclaim *wants to play zomg with Kava* crying heart

I also don't like that some things are really team dependent...most of my friends don't wanna play it, so I'm kind of stuck. I'm shy so I don't really wanna try and team up with random strangers. sad

What annoys me more though is the fact that I can't seem to use buffs on myself. It's like, getting support based rings are almost pointless unless you're going to be in a team all the time. It's great to encourage team work, but when I want to play on my own it would be nice to use my rings on myself as well. emo

Yep, that's basically my issue with it. Unless I want to be uber social and join random groups all the time... most of the time my friends aren't around to play with me. And apparently I can't buff myself. At all. Ever. And apparently defense depends ENTIRELY on buffs.

neutral

I suppose the Ghi abilities add to your health, etc. as well, but... confused they are also oriented towards not giving you much benefit unless you're working with a large group. You can recharge your Ghi in Barton faily quickly, but you'll lose it fairly quickly if you go out and solo, or even crew with only one or two others.

Anyhow! I'd love to play with you, Gubins! I don't know if you'd be on when I am though. My only chances to play will be at odd moments of a weekday evening or on the rare weekend day when I am not otherwise occupied.

There are a few rings out there that can buff yourself.

Teflon, Fitness (passive), Coyote Spirit, Fleet Feet, Ghost, Healing Halo, Iron Will, Keen Eye, Pot Lid and Turtle.

The one text messaging option I am actually grateful for is the one that notifies me when I get journal comments. If I didn't have it enabled, I'd probably never notice when people made comments on entries aside from whatever is the most recent one! (Especially those ones from a year or two back about modding.)

Thanks for letting me know Skittles. ^^ I've finally gotten past the Village Greens in the game... ;-; but it's almost always so incredibly laggy... le 'sigh. I'll keep an eye out for those rings though. I have a fitness ring, of course... I'm a con-goer. I think I ended up with several ???rings because I attended more than one convention.

Aside from that, I'm being stubborn and refusing to spend gold to play zOMG, so I'll have to see what I come across in-game. It helps to know what to look for though!

You don't need to spend a dime on zOMG!. The superchargers and ring polishers aren't really worth it and are given out in rare drops and some quests. Also you get null fragments for almost every quest and from rare drops. The fragments are for creating reciepes and most likely you'll have enough because not all the items will be appealling.

There is tons of guides in the zOMG! forum as well as users that can help you out and to understand the game. (What to look for)

I'm currently working on Deadman's Pass which is right after's Bill's Ranch. It's kinda hard to level up solo actually (orb drop is rarer). The only thing the game is more geared to is grouping up but you can go solo except for the final boss so far.

Yeah. I've been reading a couple of the guides as I go. I even looked up one about rings, but... even reading the guide doesn't give me a clear idea of the benefits of various rings until I've tried things out in the game and really understand how they work.

So, I'm getting there.

I have no opposition to being in a crew, but... since no one I know is ever on when I'm playing, then.... >>;; I join random crews once in a while. Ah well.

Makata's guide on the rings is just basic info. Pie's guide to sets and builds might be more benefiting.

^^ I'm pretty sure that I've read both. I'm starting to get a feel for the game now.

I tend to be an MMO addict... I actually havn't picked up any new free Korean-style MMOs in a while in anticipation of playing zOMG, since its pretty stylistically similar. I like that the basic premise is fairly simple and straightforward.

I have to agree with your thoughts on the game.

I like the flexability of choosing any ring, though it is rough if you change your mind on rings since trading out a higher level one for a lower one pushes you back down in level. I've been going for a healing/ranged strategy, but if I wanted to change to more melee I'd be going back down in level quite a bit without a way to get orbs very fast since I completed the lower level quests. I'm also getting a little tired of grinding in the Ranch area with the repeatable kill quests, which only give one orb.

I really wish crewing wasn't so essential for leveling up at a decent rate. I try to crew when I can, but usually it falls apart. Its really hard to judge the difficulty of what you're getting into. Even if something is green to you, it may still beat you up good. I go between feeling powerful and really weak. I'm not all that social but I like teaming on games, since I like healing. But Gaia's overall younger population really shows when trying to do stuff in game sweatdrop I'm used to the other MMOs I play having people who actually know a good bit about MMOs.

It seems like part of the best leveling strategy is to have a couple higher rings, but then a couple lower ones to push your overall level down, so you can kill things easily at a lower level, which produces better drops. By the time things are green and you can kill them fairly easily, apparently they don't drop well.

For self buff rings, Teflon Spray seems to be ranked as one of the best. Pot Lid is only for ranged attacks, so more situational.

Anyhow, you can poke me most anytime to play together.

And on routines, I think that's part of why I've let things fall apart lately... I'm so lazy now, and I sleep really long random hours. Without a job I don't have much to get up for, and my motivation to do self employed things is really low. So I waste so much time >.< I keep telling myself 'I need to break up the day into regular art, workout, etc time and think about my meals more in advance so I eat healthier and keep productive.'
And a general 'ugh' at the economy razz
