The sun had set again before Ikusai had reached the forest. I was much farther away than he had estimated. He walked into the forest, it's dark shadow engulfing him, blinding him. As he walked he thought, "Why am I here? This can't be Earth. Earth doesn't have beautiful forests like this one anymore. And why can't I remember how I got here?", then rummaged through his backpack over his shoulder with his left hand. He pulled out one of the green apples.
He entered a fair sized clearing where the moonlight shone fiercely, lightning everything up, almost as if it were day. He sat with his back against the biggest tree he could find. He took a bite out of the apple and chewed it slowly, savoring every drop of citric juice that lashed his tongue. When he swallowed, it felt like that bite had been the first he had in weeks. He continued to eat the apple until there was nothing left to it. When he finished he threw the core behind him, where it landed beside the large tree.
"HEY!!!" an angry voice called from above him in the tree, "What the HELL do you think you're doing!?" it bellowed. The voice seemed strong, yet young, around the age of a thirteen year old boy.
Ikusai stood and looked into the tree, cupping his hands over his eyes like binoculars. "Someone up there?" he asked. Try as he may, he could see no one up there.
"Hmph!" snickered the person. Then, a quick rustling noise, followed by a loud whoosh. A boy jumped down from the tree, landing in a crouched position beside the misplaced apple core. He grabbed the apple core, then stood straight up. "My name's Izumi." the boy said. As soon as the words left his mouth a small owl landed on his finger. "This is Mokushi!" he said with a smile. "You know, you really shouldn't leave apple cores on the ground like that." he said, breaking the core in half and letting the seeds fall out onto the ground. "If you let the seeds out, they'll grow. And the rest of the core can be eaten by other animals." he explained. "So... who are you?" he asked, Mokushi tilting it's head in concurrence.
Nodding his head lightly, Ikusai held out his hand for a handshake. "I'm Ikusai. Ikusai Delgatta." he said. "Nice to meet you!" he added with a smile. "So what is this place?" he asked.
Before he could answer, Izumi launched himself high into the air with one jump, taking Mokushi with him. When in the air, directly in front of the moon, he opened his eyes. Before they opened all the way, he spoke, "Infinite in mystery is the gift of the goddess We seek it thus, and take to the sky Ripples form on the water’s surface The wandering soul knows no rest." When they opened the moon shone through them, as though his eyes had been replaced by a blinding white light. He landed in the same crouched position as before, his eyes closed again. "Be on guard!" he said, "Soldiers!"
Ikusai's eyes opened wide, "What!? Soldiers!?" he exclaimed. "What do you mean?" he questioned, but his words were cut off by the sound of hard, loud footsteps.
