Rare update, but Hermes' Moon just evolved to it's 5th stage~ eek I'm really happy to see how many people are enjoying it *__*
By now, everyone should probably know that Hermes' Moon is an evolving item inspired by the Japanese tradition of Tsukimi (月見). There are varying customs between different cultures, but generally during the Autumn Moon Festival, people eat some sort of confectionery while observing the beautiful moon. As a tribute to Tsukimi, there are foods such as Tsukimi udon, and McDonald's in Japan even has Tsukimi burger! These foods all have an egg in them because the egg resembles the golden moon.
So what of the rabbit? What is the rabbit doing?
It's not pouring milk. T^T
It's not churning butter. T^T
and it's certainly not beating up a puppy!!! T____T;;;
The rabbit is making mochi, or rice cake! Similarly to how western cultures see a man on the moon, in Asian cultures there is an image of a rabbit on the moon. The Japanese see the rabbit making mochi. A mortar (usu) and pestle or mallet (kine) is used to pound the mochi, and that is what the rabbit is holding.
The stages of Hermes' Moon evolution are named after the various lakes (latin: Lacus) found on the moon. This stage is called Autumni, or Autumn, and it happens to be the season for Tsukimi ^3^ However, it's already past autumn, but luckily the Lunar New Year is quickly approaching, and that's another ocassion to eat mochi whee

I also really love rabbits!!! *_* I vowed that should I ever get a pet rabbit, I would name it Hermes! ^w^ Sadly I have no time to take care of a real one T^T so for now the evolving item will have to do. 3nodding
I've been reading a lot of talk on the forums about the PS2 game Okami. I've never played it before, but everyone tells me I really should. I hear it's going to be released on the Wii, so I'll wait for that XD
Once the rabbit hatched out of the moon egg, he flew out and trailed a bit of mysterious moon dust behind him. Who knows what will become of the moon dust? we shall see~ >3< I hope one day there can even be a Hermes' Moon plushie in the store *_*
