There is nothing sadder
than seeing rain pelt
the sand castle you thought
no wave could reach.
Randomly
the saltless waters chip
away the fragile walls
you carved with the patience
of bare hands.
The tower you thought would last
crumbles at the rain’s
slightest touch.
And you wonder
Why walls and towers will not stand
without the chemistry of sand,
moisture, hand.
