World Without End by Ken Follet (The sequel to Pillars of the Earth)
It's a good book, but Follet seems to be morbidly opposed to "happily ever after".

im currently reading the six sacred stones by matthew reilly, it s the second in the jack west series so read the first one first, this book is about a little girl born in a volcano who changes the world through forgotten mythical historical ways, its fabulous for guys or girls, guys because its all action, for girls (like myself) because of the bonds the team has with each other and other sappy stuff
