21 - 30: You decide to check out the basement, which takes a bit of lock picking (or breaking). Worry not about security: it looks like someone else has already taken care of that, a glowing red device attached to it, probably feeding it an empty loop. A level down, you find a bunch of crates, filled with familiar runics tinged in red. But you hear someone coming down the hall-- better get back to the party.

Bix watched Gale try to follow the crowd but he reappeared moments later. Apparently that approach wouldn't work. Over the headset he muttered to Gale, "Keep an eye out. I'm trying the basement."

The costumed hunter found the stairs down easy enough, though the security and surveillance seemed already to be taken care of. He wasn't much of a thief but a good jab and wiggle of a utility knife by the knob had the door popping open. The pale man slipped down the stairs to find crates of red runic weaponry.

"Gale-" he crackled through the earpiece, "crates of red runics in the basement.. But I can't grab any.. Someone's coming."

Moments later he appeared back at the party, chuckling as he exited the stairs with a put-on stumble and a murmur about where the bathroom was.

Gale shuffled around the main room for a few minutes while Bix checked the basement, trying to look as though he actually was an old man and actually belonged there. Once or twice he thought he caught amused glances, but he ignored them and kept walking.

His headset gave a low crackle, and Gale frowned.

"Red runics?" he muttered, tapping his chin. "Why would they be here..?"

He tried to sidle casually towards a small cluster of people in one of the corners. A few words caught at his attention, but before he could string them all together, the two spotted him and scattered, Gale watching one lifting his wrist.

"Bix, I think they're communicating with wrist mics to each other," he murmured quietly. "Keep an eye out, there were two over here that were hiding and now they've gone into the crowd."

1- 20: The ballroom is packed to the brim, and noisy to boot. You manage to listen in to a series of conversations that seem suspicious between two shady figures in a corner. But they catch sight of you, though, and scatter into the crowd, talking into their wrists. Stay alert.

Bix kept an extra eye out for anyone whispering into their sleeves but was having a hard time with the crowd and all the costumes. The coast was clear to the basement again, "Gonna try and grab one of the red runics.."

Perhaps he was tempting fate going down there again, but with the door already jimmied open it was quicker than the last time. Unfortunately just as he got to the crates he heard shifting steps again. Bix grabbed a single runic dagger and stashed it in his coat before fleeing again.


"They must be patrolling. Don't get enough time to do anything down there." Bix muttered under his bushy mustache.

Gale, intent on following one of the suspicious men, only managed to lose them in the chattering, laughing throng of people within a few seconds. He stepped past a group of giggling ladies and scowled, turning his head from side to side.

"Were you successful in attaining one of the runics?" Gale asked, rubbing his beard and frowning. "One second, I think I've got something."

He'd seen one of the men from the corner again, and Gale slid surreptitiously along the wall to try and follow. Led down a flight of stairs, the din of the crowd above slowly dimming to a dull thrum of mingled voices and music, he stepped quietly down a hallway.

There were voices up ahead. Gale inched closer and peered around the door.

"Oh - bloody hell - Bix get down here."

- It's time. You've managed to tail someone to the levels far below the party, enough that the din has dulled to a low roar. You can hear yourself think, but you can also hear low murmurings as you approach the site of the deal you've been looking for all night.

It's not creatures of FEAR, you find, but several men and women. And they are armed to the teeth with weapons that glow blood red. The other half of the bargaining party decide that discretion is the better part of valor, and slip out the door, taking only as many goods as they can carry.

The armed figures block off every exit, and every camera has been shorted. There's no one that can hear you scream, and that's fine. You are a hunter, and now, it's time to prove your worth.

- BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is a number of humans that have a collective 100 HP. They use red runic weapons, but have no shield. It's numbers they have on their side, and in great excess.

Every time you attack the boss (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back.

Bix hadn't been far. The basement room he'd found was only around the corner from the room that Gale found himself in. The pale man skidded into the room with his bow already summoned.

"I'm here!" He probably didn't look as cool as he'd like, especially not with the giant false mustache, but he managed to loose several arrows as the ranks of enemies closed behind him and cut off their exit.

"No way out except fighting.." Bix already had several red runics slicing at him from several directions, too many for him to fully blocked.

By the time Bix arrived, Gale had already summoned his rifle and now held it securely in his hands - and probably looking vaguely ridiculous about it all, considering his outfit that he was still trying very hard not to think too hard about.

"What are these red runic weapons, anyway?" Gale said, as he fired off a few shots, his teeth gritted as he pressed his cheek to the gun to see through the telescopic lens. "Didn't you say you got one to take back for testing?"

Bix was under the impression that false beards and mustaches only BENEFITED any outfit.

"Screw with our connection to our weapons.." Bix hissed as he was hit with something, "And really friggin hurt.." When he'd been collared by red runics he hadn't heard Mina's voice at all, and hit by one of their weapons the usual damage buffer was simply gone.

They hurt.

He let loose another consistent round of fire into their attackers.

Beards and mustaches did not benefit all outfits, Bix.

"What?" Gale yelped, and something cracked across his arm, making him hiss with pain. He staggered, dragging the rifle with him, and flipped it, grasping the barrel of it instead as he swung it like a baseball bat towards a group of attackers lurching towards them.

"Seriously? They block connections? That's a problem - especially if they mess with our shields as well."

"No. Not good. s**t~" The assailants closed in around Bix, but he wasn't entirely helpless at close range. Mina's blades flipped open and he sun her around him, doing a good amount of damage to the attackers.

Several fell back and thankfully the two young men seemed to have cut their numbers in half. The pale hunter breathed with a grin, "We got this, bro."

Gale swung the rifle again, and it cracked with a sickening sound against the skull of one of their attackers. He dropped like a stone, and Gale kept moving, both hands now grasping the barrel of the gun and swinging once more, teeth gritted.

"Just like old times, eh?" Gale grunted, stumbling a little. "Bring back old memories?"

Especially since he had just missed. Good times.
