Amit'zeru swept his large wings aloft as he banked low over the stretch of woodland that looked like a perfect place to rest. It seemed a relatively harmless place, but from his vantage, all things seemed small and harmless. His long feathered tail spread behind him like a brightly colored fan as he approached a particularly sturdy-looking tree with thick, low branches that looked like it might be able to hold his weight. Up and down his wings beat, trying to keep him aloft as he delicately placed one clawed front foot on the wide branch. And then the other. Then his back hooves followed. As he set the last hoof down, he slowly allowed his wings to stop their beating, and his body to rest. When he was finally still, he let out a loud sigh of relief, his body vibrating from the incessant movements.
Relief washed over him at getting a moment to rest. But it was short-lived. As his wings stopped their motion, an audible creak shattered the weary silence. Then another. Then a strange groaning. His ears flicked every direction, trying to pinpoint the noise. He felt the branch shift and then snap!
The branch split at it's base and sent the Hippogryph plummeting toward the ground. It was a good fifteen feet he would fall. He tried to close his wings quick enough, but was only half successful before he hit the ground with a whumph! that knocked the wind out of him. One wing pinned sharply under his body, while the other was stretching awkwardly out. He let out a groan and then a low oath, "Tree... I swear if I broke feathers... I'm going to tear you limb from limb...."
Amit'zeru slowly rolled till his body was able to sit up, then he winced again. The wing he had had under his side had cushioned the brunt of the fall - and though beautiful and glossy with well-groomed feathers normally - was now covered in dirt and grass and other bits of unwelcome nature. He clicked his beak repeatedly, letting out noises of annoyance.
He really hoped no one was around to see him in such a disheveled state, as he loathed not looking his best.
