User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Truths emerged from the Phonyland library with a new book he couldn't wait to start on. He didn't fancy the idea of staying in there to read for too long because of the risk of who he might run into like Mooncake. He had no doubts the flutter would have given him a hard time and he'd have been inclined to do the same, completely ruining any chance either of them would have had to read their books in peace. No, it was much wiser to check out the literary works of his choice and read them elsewhere, Truths was sure.

Since it was still relatively cold outside despite it being afternoon and the sun being out, the unicorn had a new dilemma about where to go. The school house, perhaps? Since school had been let out for the winter, he doubted he'd run into anyone else there. Most young foals were at home with their families and enjoying the holidays. It wasn't likely anyone would disturb him there. Pleased with this decision, Truths made it to his destination in little to no time at all and was ready to curl up in a corner with his book to read.

((FINALLY. XD So sorry about the delay; thank you for being patient with me. Let me know if there's anything I need to change!))

User Image Tink found the school house's emptiness to be a rather eerie and excellent environment to work on his current project. Voodoo dolls. Admittedly they were just the stereotypical look of a voodoo doll, but he was sure Nevermore would get a kick out of them. The green colt nodded to himself, this was probably the best choice of Christmas gift he could give the filly. Unless she celebrated the Winter Solstice, then he wasn't sure what to do.

He grinned to himself as the school house gave creaking and odd little terrifying noises as it settled under the thin blanket of snow. Choosing a pair of black buttons that shone a dark purple under the right light, he went back to trying to match the green of his furcoat with several green fabrics he had brought. It didn't take long to choose the closet shade and starting to cut up the pieces as he hummed to himself, adding to the eerie atmosphere.

Truths was not a unicorn to notice the 'eeriness' of an enviornment; particularly when his mind was set on something else. He entered the school house with little warning, carelessly shoving open the door. He was already half way across the room before he realized he wasn't the only one occupying it.

"...What are you doing here?" he demanded of the green colt, sounding equal parts surprised and irked. So much for having a quiet place to himself.

The fur of his neck stood up on end for a moment at the sudden noise from the door, but looked towards the colt with some amusement at having his little heart racing. "Workin'."

Dark eyes sweeped over Truths quickly, and Tink came to the conclusion he never met the colt. "You look like an old man."

"On what?" he pressed further, nose wrinkling in distaste at the other colt's materials. "Is that a doll? Of yourself?"

He was momentarily distracted in his criticizing, however, when he received an appraisal of his own. "What?" Blinking a couple of times to process the comment, he wasn't sure whether to take it as an insult or not. It had seemed harmless enough. In any case, at least it was honest. "What does that have to do with anything?"

Tink seemed more amused then mad at the other obvious distaste of his choice of activity. He had met enough colts to know their thoughts on dolls, but it didn't bother him, he rather get even. "Yes, a doll of myself"

There was a childish laugh that bubble out of him and chirped. "Does it have to have to do with anything?"

Raising a brow at the earth phony's confirmation, Truths huffed and said no more of it. If that's what he wanted to do with his time, it wasn't like it was his concern.

The other colt's seemingly undaunted cheerful demeanor was starting to grate on his nerves, though. "If it wasn't relevant to anything, why bother mentioning it at all? It's a waste of your words, my attention, and both our time," he snapped impatiently. "If there's nothing worthwhile you have to say to me, then do us both a favor and don't. You have your doll to work on and I have a book to read."

That said, the vermillion unicorn went over to an inviting corner, sat himself down, took out the book from his saddlebag, and proceeded to read it from page one. He was careful to make a big show of all this in order to emphasize his desire to be left alone.

More then anything, Tink seemed by far more entertained by the display then put off. Yes, he had come here to be alone and get the right energy to make a scary voodoo doll for his friend, but this intrusion was quiet fun.

While to him pointless conversation was the whole point of being able to speak, he kept quiet with a little grin and settled back to his doll work. It wasn't long before he started to humm and even sing softly. " The waves part and then we see...A demon face across the sea...Bringing monster in our midst...The face draws closer in the mist"

The unicorn's tail twitched as the singing started. His ears pressed back against his head and his frowned deepened into an open scowl. When he found himself starting the same sentence for the third time, he decided enough was enough.

"Must you sing aloud to yourself while you work? It's horribly distracting. I can't concentrate."

"Well, yes, I must." He smiled, and explained with a most reasonable tone. "The only way toys come out right if you have the right set of mind. Singing creepy things help with dolls."

The green colt's semblance of reason only served to annoy Truths further. "What are you talking about? That's absolute nonsense. What possible proof could you have to support that theory?!" He eyed the doll skeptically out the corner of his peripheral vision.

"Are you saying it's your intention to be creepy? As if doll-making in an empty school house in the dead of winter wasn't peculiar enough, I'd hoped you were at least of sound mind enough for it to be a normal doll." He flicked his tail in irritation. "Please tell me I wasn't wrong."

Tink tilted his head, obviously the other colt had never created anything of importance before. "It's a voodoo doll. The only way to make the button eyes shine with something dark behind them is to be in the right place. The only way the stitching will take the right form is to have the right emotion behind it while working." His dark eyes look down at the other's book. "A books imaginary world works at it's best when you are listening to the right music, or standing in the right space. Scary books are only scary at night under your sheets, with a poorly lit flashlight. Or do you not believe that either? "

"...Oh." Well, that explained a few things. Why a colt was messing with what was supposedly a filly's toy for one thing. And why he seemed a bit mentally unstable for another. "...You do know such claimed relics don't actually hold power over their living counterparts, don't you?" Truths said, speaking slowly as if to an infant. But then something else struck him as even more odd. "Hold on. If that's supposed to be a voodoo doll, then why are you making it of yourself?"

He tilted his head, puzzled. "Do you intend to have better power over yourself? Or perhaps intend to give someone power over you...?" More-likely it was to give said someone a keepsake reminder of him. Idly, Truths wondered if said doll was meant for someone special to the green colt, but he dared not ask. It wasn't any of his concern anyway.

"Hmph. You're starting to sound like a couple of other silly-minded colts I know," the unicorn muttered. Namely Acid Beat about music and Mooncake about books. The fact that this doll was a craft and this foal was putting so much effort and thought into it was also reminiscent of Paper Lantern, Truths realized. "No, frankly, I don't. A book is a book no matter where I read it. Provided I can read it. If I'm listening to anything - music, or that infernal noise you might call singing, for instance - then there's no way I can concentrate on the words I'm reading. It's just not practical."

"You must have very gentle passions if that's the case." The boy started twitching his doll slowly. "This is not that kind of voodoo doll, it won't work like the real ones. I don't have the spells or herbs to make it work. I am surprise a unicorn is so narrow minded as to not believe in such a thing as magic. That's what voodoo dolls are, magic."

"It's mean to be a present, a mockery. Nev will get a laugh out of it." And he dearly hope he never got her mad enough to enchant it. "Well, I was here first, so I will make as much noise as I think necessary." He settled back down and began singing again.

'Gentle passions'? That was an...interesting way to put it, Truths thought, especially since he suspected it was an indirect insult; similar to the 'old man' comment. The insult that followed it was not so subtle.

"'Narrow-minded'?" he repeated, huffing. "Now, you see here. I never said anything about not believing in magic. I don't believe in the use of it - at least not without very, very good reason nor when a task can be done without it. But voodoo is a different sort of magic concept altogether. It's silly and a waste which is why it's hardly in use or existence today."

The further explanation would have typically pacified Truths under normal circumstances. As the prideful phony had already gotten himself worked up and found himself insulted, though, it only served to fuel his growing temper. "If that was the case from the beginning, why didn't you just say so?!" he growled. "And who in Phonyland is 'Nev'?!"

The nerve of him! Thinking he could go back to his own work just like that? "Are you toying with me, you insolent twit, or do you honestly think that after all that, I'd be mollified by your twisted idea of logic?"
