Personality:
Vanya takes pride in everything to do with herself. Her appearance, her skills, her achievements; no matter how small. Everything she does is perfect; everything she says is gospel. Or, at least, that's how she believes it.
Her vanity isn't unwarranted or something she hasn't earned. While she may not be the very best, she's still talented and she has been blessed with a beauty not many can rival. However, her talents she trained hard - and continues to train hard - for. Her beauty is something she spends hours maintaining. As a child, she was a runt and an ugly duckling. Her limbs seemed to be too long for her, making her clumsy. Her feathers were uneven, leaving bald patches. However, as she got older, genetics, nature, fate.. whatever you want to call it gave her a break. She grew into her long legs. Her feathers came through and she was finally beautiful.
The way she was treated for being ugly - different; an outcast - was the main cause for her vanity. Beauty got you everything; she had to hold onto it at any cost.
She is quite temperamental. One day she can be as sweet as a kitten. The next she can live up to her species' reputation. Mostly, she snaps when she's insulted. Doesn't matter what's said or who says it; if she takes offence, she'll let you know by showing how sharp her claws are; or how loud her screech is. More often than not, this gets her in trouble. But will she ever change? Unlikely. Perhaps she'll be able to take a joke around friends; assuming people can stand being around her long enough for her to make friends in the first place. Because of how she was raised in the Flock, Vanya has no respect for men and doesn't see them as her equal - or even remotely close to her level. While she isn't as extreme as some of the other harpies back home, some things are still hard to kick and it's not likely that she'll strike up a conversation or begin a friendship with a male unless she thinks he's worthy - aka he's really pretty.
It's a little hard for Vanya to make friends because of her personality traits. Not many can tolerate her or she just doesn't think they're worth it. While Vanya may surround herself with lesser, prettier 'friends' she may not trust them very much and isn't likely to open up to them. If someone persists to try and get to know the harpy, she may let her guard down and open up to them. Should she think of them as her friend, she'll be their friend for life; always loyal and always protective. It is very, very, unlikely that Vanya will have this kind of relationship with a male; unless certain circumstances lead up to it. Most of Vanya's male 'friends' will most likely just be collections to her harem; like pretty trinkets or accessories.
Vanya's obsessed with beautiful things; like a magpie is shiny things. It doesn't matter what it is. Trinkets, clothing, jewelry, flowers, pets, men or women. She wants it all in her collection. Because of her obsession with beauty; Vanya's a little less likely to talk to those she doesn't deem worthy. Which, given how she was treated when she was younger, is odd. But bullied kids go one of two ways. They get back to normal. Or they become bullies herself. However, bully is a harsh word. Vanya won't openly mock or tease someone but she won't openly talk to them, either. They're free to initiate a conversation with her, but it's likely her interest will be lost quite easily.
Despite her attitude and what some may believe upon speaking to her, Vanya is actually quite intelligent. Though it's not something she cares to make high note of - in her mind intelligence is something that a lot are blessed with; it's something that's common. While she isn't able to solve problems right off the bat; she can push herself until she finds a solution or she goes mad; whichever comes first. Vanya loves to dance. It's something she's loved since she was a little chick - even in her awkward stage when she fell over at every turn. As she grew into her body, she achieved grace and balance. Some may think her silly for wasting her time with such a trivial thing, but Vanya actually puts it to use when she's fighting. Leaps and bounds, twirls and turns. Strength, agility. All things that she's learnt while training; all things that are useful.

History: Vanya was born into a very large flock. As a child, she was quite ugly; her feathers were spindly, her limbs long and gangly and she was rather awkward. Where all other harpies showed beauty at her age, Vanya was not blessed. Because of this, she was teased for most of her childhood. However, when she reached puberty, she grew into her limbs. Her feathers finally arrived in wonderful iridescent hues. She was beautiful and she was told just that every moment of every day. Her ego grew to exponential size. Dancing is a big part of Flock culture. All females are taught basic dances as soon as they're old enough to learn. For Vanya, this was difficult because of how clumsy she was. However, when she got older, dancing came easily and she quickly became one of the higher dancers within the Flocks; even being granted permission to give lessons of her own.
However, Vanya still had the duty of capturing a male to bring home for the Flock. But she was too picky; no man she came across was good enough and so the Flock decided to grant her permission to go outside the Flock lands to find someone worthy. Thus, Vanya ended up at the Academy.
