story: Shadowed Moon walked through the trees, taking in the scent of the needles he crunched beneath his hooves. Watching the patterns the sun made as it shown through the spaces between the branches he didn't notice a small creature scamper past him. Feeling a sudden pressure and a bit of wetness behind his head he looked back only to get a small berry dropped on his face. Seeing the splash of red-pink across his nose he pondered whether it would be safe to lick it off, however, before he reached a conclusion another berry fell down a few hoof lengths in front of him. Glancing up in the direction the small fruit had fallen from he noticed something move through the branches and down the trunk of the tree. A small mongoose ran in front of him and picked up the berry before glancing around, noticing him it seemed to pause in fear for a moment before staring at his face. Shadowed Moon looked confused before he remembered the smashed berry on his nose. "Sorry, it's squished, no hope for that one." He chuckled softly. Pausing for a moment he looked at the Evergreen Berry the small mongoose was holding. "I don't know if that's edible."

story:

Twi was walking along the banks of a stream, watching Midnight Moon float lazily with the stream's flow. She looked up as a flock of songbirds flew from the trees, and saw that the cause for their flight was an excited little mongoose jumping through the trees, shaking branches and scaring the birds. Suddenly, it took a flying leap from one of the branches, heading for the stream, and right for Moon. Twi could almost see her grin as the caiman's eyes locked on the little mongoose. Normally, Twi would let Moon eat in peace and wander off so she wouldn't have to watch the bloody mess, but this was a really pretty, and sort of young looking mongoose. Twi didn't want its life to be cut short so soon. She galloped into the water, and though she was too late for the now-terrified mongoose to land in the water, she nudged Moon aside as the mongoose scrambled up her leg and hid itself firmly in her hair. Moon snapped sullenly at her hoof, but Twi simply picked it up, knowing Moon didn't mean any real harm. "Oh settle down, I'll find you some more lunch later to make up for it." She trotted back to the shore, as Moon floated off to sulk. She tried to shake the little mongoose out of her hair, but it didn't even come loose. "You're safe now, you know." Still no movement, other than the tiny vibrating from the mongoose's shivers. "Oh well, I guess I've got a new pet now."

story: Chuckles took frequent trips around the edges of the swamp, trying to meet others from far-off lands in order to learn what kind of jokes they told to their own kind. He was on one of these trips when he came across a pair of mongooses, a male and a female. The male was attempting to woo the female, and his shrill mating call sounded like a happy giggle.

Chuckles stood a ways off, smirking to himself. The little male mongoose didn't get his bride, but he did make a friend and earn himself a name. After that, little Giggles kept watch for more ladies from his perch on Chuckles' broad back.

mongoose name: Snatch
story: Idle was good at not being seen. Which was probably a good thing, considering how lazy he was. His pitch hide with only a few strokes of color rendered him practically invisible in the darker recesses of the swamp, which helped in the times he absolutely had to hunt or fish for himself, like now. He was eying a lizard crawling down a sun-dappled tree, right towards his still form hiding in the shadows, and was therefore absolutely stunned when a furry form appeared seemingly out of thin air, bouncing off his back then onto the tree to nab the lizard he'd been waiting for!

The furball, who he noticed was a mongoose, landed upon the ground, lizard in-mouth, and actually managed to looked guilty as he saw Idle glaring at him. After an awkward pause, the mongoose dropped his just-acquired lunch, and backed up a pace. Idle paused, then laughed. "You can keep it. As long as you catch me another, eh?" As his new friend chomped on his food, Idle thought this could be a great relationship indeed.
