First post on this story.

Now I've got it all sorted, I'm setting it all out here for your opinions.

A new Virtual Reality game has hit the shelves that uses a Neural Interface to put players directly into the world.

Unknown to the designers of the game, the Artificial Intelligence created for the main villian is so advanced, that it has achieved sentience.
Not content with living in a Virtual Reality, the A.I wants out into the real world.
To reach the real world, it believes it needs to take control of a human mind. Wanting to take the best mind available, the A.I waits for the players to log in, then restricts the access protocols, trapping them inside, and anyone else out.

Players must play through the game to find a way to escape and to survive.
The A.I has disabled the respawn controls so that death in the game, is death in life. It believes those who cannot complete the challenges in the game are unworthy of being its avatar, and unworthy of life.





Main Points:

Only a small number of players were able to log in before the A.I stopped access.
The reason access was stopped was so that no designers, or developers of the game could get access and try to stop the A.I.
Story focuses on a small group, perhaps 5/6 players from around the world, who team up in the game.
At the end of each world, players face the A.I. Those who make it to the challenge are deemed worthy of the A.I
Players who defeat the A.I at the end of each world, are allowed to choose between exiting the game or continuing on to the next area.
To defeat the A.I permanently, a player must play through the whole game and battle the A.I in the end game battle, The Final Confrontation, where the A.I is in its strongest incarnation.
The A.I gains limited control of the game, so it can do certain things but not others. Gains control of the log in/log out protocols and the safety protocols of the game.
A.I decides to let a small number log in once the first group reaches the end of a world. That way, if all players are defeated, it has a new group to use ready.
The A.I is limited by the parameters set in game for the villains character. So it must face the players at the appropriate level, making it weak after the first world, but strongest in The Final Confrontation.
NPCs in the game can either help the player, or fight for the A.I.
Some of the players defeated in End World confrontations are taken by the A.I, their minds are corrupted and they become the A.Is personal guard. A zombie like creation that can only be freed by dying, or defeating the A.I.
Developers are working to regain control from the A.I. to help the players.

I'm thinking of having a developer finding a way to log in to the game to help out.

Main Game Storyline

An evil scientist has created a device that is causing havoc throughout the galaxy. The device is creating portals between alternate realities. If the scientist is not stopped, his creation will cause all realities to converge into one, destroying the Universe.

Players Character

The player is a member of an elite task force assigned the mission of stopping the scientist. the player must journey between the realities to find the Scientists labs and shut down his machine.

How the Game would start.

PLayer is sat in a troop transport, heading towards a portal for the first incursion to find the Scientists lab.
A computer screen at one end of the transport talks the players through the mission and explains about the different objectives they will have to complete.
It also explains the in game commands, so that the players can access things like their weapons list, inventory and communications.
The transport is attacked by enemy forces and falls into the portal, spiralling out of control.
As the transport falls towards the planet below, the player is ordered to activate their suits Atmospheric Controls and prepare for Emergency Atmospheric Skydive.
A rendezvous point is set on the players map, so that their suits will guide them, and other players at the same point in the game, to the start location.
As the player jumps out the transport, small jets in the armored suit they are wearing guide them down to the surface.
In the background, they watch the transport spiral to the ground and crash quite a distance away.

The Players meet up at the rendezvous point and begin the game.


The First Mission:
Explore the immediate area to find out what you can about this reality.


At this point, the players are playing the game as it was intended. The A.I. has not yet shown itself.

Equipment used in game by players

Body Armor:
upgradeable suit covering main body. Face and hands not included.
Player starts with the Atmospheric Skydive equipment, once used it deactivates itself.
must find upgrades in the game world to boost suits power, allowing strength, speed and damage resistance buffs.
Some upgrades are permanent while others will be for set missions only.

Personal Computer:
Needs a funky acronym
Wrist interface
Voice activated using the earpiece module.
contains a screen for things like map display, info etc.
GPS tracking device
GPS locator to find other team members
Inventory List and access
Objective details accessed this way
Displays: personal statistics, available missions, completed objectives etc.
Communicator menu.

Ear Piece:
Wirelessly connected to computer
allows easy communication with computer and players
build in microphone
voice activated, so no touching to turn it on.

Rucksack:
Double strap bag that fits against the players back
straps reinforced so they wont break.
Not removable.
Contains all items collected in a digitized form, so space is limitless really.
Accessible through the Personal Computer.


Weapons
Primary weapon is a Star Trek Phaser style pistol that is upgradeable.
Secondary Weapon is a Star Wars style blaster rifle, like the StormTroopers used.
Close Combat Weapons include a Lightsaber style sword, a Klingon Bat'leth style double blaeded weapon and a military style Combat Knife.

Other weapons include:
grenades
flash bangs
mines
a grappling hook with launcher, Batman style
Rocekt Launchers.


All these weapons need names, I'm working on that. Also, list is not complete, more weapons available in game.

User Commands in game

All Commands must be started with the word "COMPUTER"

"Access weapons list" displays weapons list on computer
"equip [item name]" equips item as instructed
"Display [map/objectives/team position/etc]" displays requested info on computer screen
"contact [name]" opens comm. link to named person
"Status of [self/weapon/team member/etc" displays status of requested item, power levels, health etc
"show exit" Allows a player to exit the game.

Okay that's everything I've got planned out so far.
As usual, your opinions are welcome.
Any thing you'd change? Anything you'd add?

I know its a lot to read and you're probably fed up of hearing of this, but I have to make sure I get this right.

Ok, I'm gonna make a start on this, I can't see much of a problem with it, so I'll see how it goes.
