Okay, so I was talking with my friends about the new Pirates movie. We all seemed to be torn. On one hand, all the movies have been really good so far and we want to see another good movie. On the other hand, Disney is milking the Pirates franchise and seems like they're overdoing it.

For example, about a month ago, the character Angelica from Pirates 4 was added into WDW and DL in CA, BEFORE the movie has even come out. This really bugs me...

So, what I'm getting to is this: What are your views on the Pirates franchise (movies, attractions, clothes, toys...)?

I always like the Pirates movies, they may be taken it to the extreme but I'll have to see it to make up my mind really.

I really liked the first Pirates movie; I love the concept, the re-imagining of a Disney classic, and the attention to detail that made the movie such a rich and interesting thing to watch. The quality has stayed high, I finally found a role I like Johnny Depp in, and it made me smile.

That being said; I agree completely: Disney is milking it. I'm not even planning to go see this next movie; I'll watch it when they're showing it for free on tv. Even the 2nd and 3rd movies were a bit much for my taste; they were good, don't get me wrong, but I felt like they were already risking running their best horse ragged. I figured, okay, three is following the trilogy theme American movies have been obsessed with over the last decade; three is fine. It's over. Good show. And now there's a 4th. Oig. ^_^;

I didn't know that about the merch, though... I guess it's just a marketing ploy to spark interest in the film before it's released? Maybe?

lol, that's pretty much exactly how our conversation went. I really liked the sequels so I was ok with a trilogy, but now...I'm not so sure. And then they changed Tom Sawyer's Island at DL in CA to the Pirates Lair. Ugh...

The first one was amazing, but I agree with you- it seems like they're taking it to the extreme. For me, the movies got a little worse as they went along. 1 was fantastic, 2 and 3 were okay. I'm still excited to see this one, though, just because my love for Johnny Depp makes me biased. XD

I haven't seen the new one yet but I liked both of the pirate movies so far. I am glad they have added new characters in the story. If this one does great maybe there will even be a fourth.

I really like Pirates of the Caribbean. The first movie was the best, and I enjoyed the other two. I actually do want to watch the fourth movie... I just hope its going to be good is all. lol.

Also the ride is awesome.

So I saw the movie and it wasn't too bad. Definately my least favorite of the series, and there were parts where I wanted to smack the director, but it redeemed itself and I overall liked it. I really hoppe they don't do a fifth one tho...

I do agree they milk it, but a lot of time its the high up smart people going,
"How can we make the most money?" In that way, Disney can be the
smartest. They may very well rule the world someday...I'm just kidding,
but it is the reason why they milk things. They do it with Phineas and
Ferb too because they know it's the only show people like with the ones
left. Don't get me started on all the High School Musical stuff.

The Disney corporation isn't the only ones that do these things. Look at
Nick, they push and push Spongebob until the shows are really stupid,
but he's now the face of Nick a lot of the time. They have also push iCarly
since it began. The entertainment business is money hungry just like
most other businesses.

All of this aside, I did enjoy the fourth pirates movie, but it wasn't as good
as the others. There were some really funny twists, but a lot of it was
predictable from the start. Not that I mind predictable in the least. I just
know some people don't like it. All in all, not the best movie ever, but it
was worth my six bucks.

P.S. No matter what you've heard DO NOT stay to the end of the credits.
Not worth it. I will even tell you what was at the end of them if you ask.

P.P.S. To those of you wondering, Johnny Depp has signed on for a fifth
movie.

Agreed, the little thing at the end was stupid. And to your pps, I have one thing to say: NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Purenia, you have a good point. Disney is a business, and a smart business milks its best ponies for every dime they can squeeze out of them. It's not a particularly bad thing; after all, if they don't they can't keep growing and paying people to make more amazing things. It's just business.

But wow... a 5th movie? They must be making a killing. XD I suppose the whole of the franchise has come to revolve around Johnny Depp, so as long as he's willing to keep coming back, they're willing to make the movies. Which makes me smile, actually...

"Okay guys, I showed up with my pirate face on. Let's DO THIS."

Hmmm... I'm one of those people that starts to get angry if I can figure out the ending. But at the same time, I want to see it because they always do such a good job filming, and the places always look so beautiful. <3 ...the watch it on tv plan is apparently still a go for me. XD

I never thought it was a bad thing, Disney still does good things for people
and for that you need money. This is pretty much what Earth revolves on.
Money. And I give Disney respect for being as worldwide as it has gotten.

And I will still see the fifth one as much of a Disney and Pirates nerd I will
forever be. If Johnny Depp wasn't coming back for it, however, I would not see
it. It isn't pirates without Captain Jack Sparrow.

Like I said, I don't mind predictable, because I can figure out things faster
then others a lot of the time, so I've just gotten used to it.

Hmmm. I want to watch the movie. But I dunno if I'll watch it at the cinema.

I just hope the 5th movie would be worth watching. The 3rd was okay, 4th was...eh...sort of lame really. At least Johnny's antics made me enjoy it.

(I know, old topic, but this is like...one of my favorite things here. Mainly because I'm a huge Depp fan, and because I love anything slightly pirate themed.)
