Not deleted- Banned. Which makes the story even worse, if what they say is true. What if those people were wrongfully banned? That's what's making me tick.

Yeah, but if you don't say anything in the first two months, you never get it back and they assume you don't care about your account. so that account would never have been gotten back ever anyway. And they dont delete accounts...or so I heard, anyway.
They're not actually retrieving the halo from some banned account. That's total nonsense. It's fiction - like the NPCs and the whole Gaia storyline.
None of our accounts actually have anything in them but links to item definitions. That's what items are. There's no reason to worry that someone might come back to Gaia, reclaim their account, and want their halo back. Nothings been taken from anyone. They simply give someone a link to the halo definition and bingo - they have a halo. Honestly - that's what you get when you buy an item - any item - a link to a definition for that item.

What ever happened to this giveaway thing, anyway? It went away quietly.

They announced the winner at the beginning of the month (announcement here).

I think they made a smart choice to not release her Gaia username and instead use her first name. Not like it'll matter once she starts wearing the halo, but still it's good that she wasn't immediately swamped with beggars and people trying to hack her account.
Also, I think she made a good choice to voluntarily have it soulbound.
