Mechanics for WP07: Cleanup

This prompt takes the form of an ORP!

The Battle of the Tribes has ended, and for the most part Kin have been respectful of their surroundings, leaving things as untouched as possible.

But in the wake of such a large gathering there is bound to be a mess--food scraps to clean up, churned-up clay flats to be stomped down, streams redirected and dams dismantled in the wake of efforts to keep the festivities well-watered, seeds planted in wrecked thickets and mounds and stages rebuilt.

Luckily, some Kin have stayed behind to assist in the cleanup efforts. With a little bit of teamwork and focus, this area of the Swamp is sure to be restored to its normal beauty in no time.

    MECHANICS:
The clearing and surrounding areas have a combined 600 Mess Points (MP) Your Kin can clean up 1d10 MP at a time. This is an ORP that will take place in THIS thread.

Roll 1d10 to determine how many MP you have cleaned. At the bottom of your post put the current MP in BOLD RED. Only after doing this, go back and edit your RP into your post.

    Example:
The person above me has posted that the clearing currently has 517 MP. I roll 1d10 and deal 6 MP of damage. I edit my post to include 511 MP in bold red, save it, and then go back in to edit my post and add my RP.

Feel free to RP as much as you like in and outside of your actual dice rolls, but please quote one another to keep track as it might get a bit messy (/rimshot), as ORPs tend to do!

You may not roll twice in a row. Let someone else go first! Additionally, for the first three OOC days the prompt is up, there is a limit of 5 rolls per Kin per day, but if the mess remains undefeated by the end of day three, this limit is lifted!

If the mess is defeated in under 36 OOC hours, special prizes will be awarded! Recruit your friends!

    ADDITIONALLY:
It seems like Never-Idle's prize-awarding staff was a little bit lax... If you roll two 10s quote Rejam with both posts and you'll discover a leftover Battle of the Tribes prize--a butterfly, a feather, a stone, or some other goodie! These prizes will have the same IC benefits as the official Battle of the Tribes prizes.

When you've finished the prompt and have a minimum of 500 words, post in the STICKY THREAD with the name of the prompt (WP07 - Cleanup) and a link to the thread. You can use a link to that post as an RP requirement for Legendary or other RP-related tasks!

All participants in the RP must reach word count individually, and post the completed thread individually.

One Kin per player please, at least as far as the dice go. Feel free to RP others.

Click to show.Although Soothe wasn't a member of a tribe herself, she'd certainly been present for the spectacle that had only recently taken place, and she'd found herself a little lost lemur among the hassle. It wasn't that part that was important, anyway: far more interesting to her was reviving the swamp's trampled-upon foliage and rehoming animals abandoned in the wreckage. Then the kin could come again next year, happy, and Soothe could do the same thing again.

But the festivities and competitions had left a mess, and Westfen did not leave messes. He had offered to stay behind and help clean up. If he didn't know better, then he might have named that gleam in Burning Bush's eye pride.

Soothe wasn't working alone, though: well, of course not. It'd have been silly to think that she was the only kin who cared about things like these. Continued life, continued cheer...those were the sorts of things all kin found good.

She was surprised, though, that the first kin she saw was a member of a tribe she knew as rather reclusive. Well, perhaps that wasn't the right word; Soothe didn't know much about Westfen. But they kept to themselves, and they seemed ferocious about keeping their territory theirs, from what little she knew. She wouldn't even have recognized the buck but for the wreath about his neck; she was more than aware that the tribe had won the pentathlon event.

She knew that the place would be a mess after the battle. Broken branches, rotting fruit, and random debris were scattered everywhere in the now almost abandoned place. Just a few kin stayed behind to spend some time cleaning things up. The majority had already made their journey back 'home'.

The doe decided to stay behind and help clean up so shrubs and fruiting vegetation can take place again. It was not clear to her if she was in a tribe's territory or if it was just a location the tribe leaders had chosen to hold such a big event.

She picked up a bit of soppy wet fur coated with mud and flung it against a tree bark. No kin deserves to step on it and be stuck with it.

She was not part of a tribe but she thought that maybe if she stuck around with the cleaning, she could give herself a free workout lifting heavy things and get used to the gross stench lingering around.

[ as the sun burns | word count : 235 ]

A sigh of relief seemed to flow through the swamp as the sun set on yet another exciting tale. Ah, the Battle of the Tribes, what a wonderful story! As he walked, Watch mentally retold its entirety to himself, fixing the details, the tastes, the smells, the sounds, all of it into his mind. At the next gathering, he would have to be sure that everyone who had missed the festivities could relive it in tale.

A new weight seemed to have fallen upon the tired shoulders of the half-Kiokote, both physically and mentally. In reality, the white-feathered remains of a once glorious crane draped across his shoulders, her small head brazen with a spot of red. With it had come a responsibility of sorts. He had meant it as a game, something to test his worth, make his name memorable. Now he was the Crane and, while it worried him some, the honor nestled itself in him like, well, a bird in its nest.

Red hooves, dull and well worn by endless travels, almost shimmered under the thin vein that was the small river he waded through. Smiling softly, his eyes distant and thoughtful, he skimmed debris from the water and laid it ashore so that he may collect and dispose of it later. After all, he wasn't just a story teller now, but maybe, perhaps, a character in a story of its own.

While he hadn't won any of the events, he did, at least, bear the mark of having participated in one - the fluttering remains of an orange butterfly, an indignity he suffered with great patience.

That he had come to this event seeking his name, he decided to tell no one. Something about a wolf, a noble hunter, would have been a fine name indeed, but to bear the name of a feeble and delicate insect was a fate he would not contemplate.

Still, the thing was a prize he had earned, and, admittedly, looked rather fetching on him. It brought out his eyes.

With great deliberation, he set himself to smoothing away the hoofprints in the soft earth.

Soothe did not ever have anything to say to anyone.

That didn't matter. She was at work, carefully pulling plants back into their places. Soon the swamp would emerge again, and kin would go on their way. Soothe would remain. She stood for a moment before deciding where else to apply herself.

Stages! Those should be rearranged so that the foliage was arranged...perhaps not naturally, but certainly in a way where the plants could flourish optimally.

Tipsy's area was a disaster. Her little hollow had stones littered around the edge as a boundary line, wooden bowls were stacked and sticky from drinks and snacks, several barrels laid spent near the back, and other detritus speckled the area. There were, amazingly enough, still a couple full or partially full barrels left. Tipsy worked to get the floor swept out with a pine branch, dumping the stuff which would degrade naturally into a little hole, and then she buried it.

Of course, now her mouth tasted of pine sap. She went to a half-empty cask and... got a drink to get the taste out.

As the day wound down, Peep had retreated to the shade of a tree and slipped off to sleep, catching a quick nap while she could. Her daughter Totoma stood over her throughout, keeping an eye on her mother and making sure she wasn’t disturbed. When she slowly returned back into the world of the waking, the clean-up effort had just started. The little Acha lifted her head and blinked sleepily. It was only right that she help out too.

She sent her daughter home with the stone crown and a kiss on the nose, and then got to work moving debris aside and planting seeds in the turned up soil.

This, after spotting a few kin walking about, this was what volunteered to stay behind. They look strong in their own special ways. One even was winged.

She minded her own business. If they needed her help moving the large boulders and what not, she was certain they would call out to her.

This time, she used her right hoof to unearth the soil and let the air seep through it. That at least can be used to grow vegetation if animal droppings ever landed on it. But rainwater would still be the best.

Watch's red and wandering eyes lifted from his work ever so often, flitting from kin to kin, watching closely for a short moment before slipping back to work. He was not supervising, nor was he judging, only looking to see if any kin needed assistance. While he was getting on in years, and may not be the spry young buck he had once been, traveling had hardened his body, he would openly assist however he could.
