I just saw Goblet of Fire and I thought that it was at best a mediocre movie and a god awful adaptation of the book.
For one thing they really beat you over the head with the fact that old "Mad Eye" isn't who he says he is while in the book it was significantly more subtle.
Next they didn't even bother showing the subplots that effect the story significantly later on. I mean how are they going to explain how Fred and George got their seed money if they never mentioned that the winner gets a large amount of cash? How are they going to explain why Rita owns Hermione a massive favor? Just seems very short sighted to completly ignore those subplots.

Some people don't visualize well when reading and need assistance. *shrugs*

I have no need for adaptations, but I try not to fault people who do.

Because WB thought they would make a lot of money. Which apparently they do.

There's no way they could have included all the subplots in a movie. It's a shame weeks-long miniseries have gone the way of the dodo.

I love HP movies. I read the book and pretty much see the movie as a neat way of bringing that world to life. Considering the time and budget of the film, it was pretty good. I have some complaints, but am still happy with it.

I liked it better than the third. I'm glad they gave Krum a decent line (the scene with Rita Skeeter in the tent before the first trial), and Neville rocked.

People have wondered how they're going to explain Bellastrix in the next one, and some other plot points that got left out. Me, I'm wondering how they're going to handle Umbridge.

I would reply to the rest of your post, but all I saw was "Krum" and I lost my focus.

Now, if you had said Cedric....Cedric...uh, what?

I was kinda disappointed in their version of Krum. In the book he was supposed to be amazing on a broom but clumsy and inelegant on the ground. While in the movies he was kinda........ Big and imposing.
And Neville always rocks no matter the medium.

There probaly going to make her a minor annoyance to the crew but no big deal. I mean how imposing was the army of death eaters? There were 5 of them in the graveyard. No matter how impressive a wizard Voldemort is how can he be a threat with 5 followers?

Only a handful showed up at the gravesite anyway, if I recall. The rest of them hadn't recieved the summon or showed up methinks.

I wish Rita Skeeter hadn't been downplayed - and even more importantly SNAPE. Snape is SUCH an important character to the books other than "That a*****e who's always pissing Harry Potter" off. I mean christ, the latest book is all about Snape. Maybe that's why Alan Rickman is like "Yea I think I'll stick around".

Moody made me sad, as him not being himself was obvious - and to top it off, they removed his best saying: "CONSTANT VIGILANCE!". But at least they got the bouncy ferret bit. biggrin

Sometimes, I wish that they would make two versions of the movie. One for the kids, and one for the hardcore fans. If you can get Lord of the RIngs fans to sit through 3+ hours of movie, you can easily strap in all the HP nutcases in. I'D watch it!

From what I remember Voldemort wasn't happy about the number of Death Eaters that showed up but I'm pretty sure that there were more than 5 people described. And they all got the summons since every death eater had the Death Mark.

I'm not sure I really agree with yo about Snape being more important in the books. Basically he had 3 main jobs.
1. Be mean to Harry and crew. Although it is much more justifiable in the books since Harry and Crew really are dissrespectful to him.
2. Be the longest running Red Herring in literary history. I mean how many times has Harry thought that Snape was at the heart of the problems at Hogwarts? At least once a year? I always figured that would continue into Harry's Auror carreer. I actually started laughing when He killed Dumbledore just because Harry was right for once.
3. He had to be the one to piss all over Harry's happiness parade.

At least they got that. I was kinda dissappointed in the eye. I always figured it was much quicker and much more unpredictable.

Well there's an Idea and yeah people would definatly sit through several hours for a truely great Harry Potter movie.

I am hoping for either an extended edition (YES) or massive deleted sceneage.

That would be great. I'd buy those!

I've been watching the fallout from HBP; if you're not actively involved in HP fandom, the level of batshit insane asshattery will make the furry and otaku fanatics found on Gaia look normal. Someone did a rant about how Harry was sent off "by himself" to the Ministry of Magic, and brushed off Luna and Neville as "useless cowards". The people who didn't agree with the ranter replied with "Did you read the book? Remember Neville standing by Harry in front of Bellatrix Lestrange?"

Yeah, some people are really intense. I think part of the reason why I wasn't so nitpicky about the movie is I read the book so I could get enough out of the film to be satisfied but I hadn't read it since its release so I wasn't all "OMFG THEY FORGOT THAT HARRY'S HAIR IS TOTALLY PARTED DOWN THE MIDDLE IN THAT PART!!!"

And I'd be all over that DVD like white on rice.

I thought the new movie was a lot better than the others, but it left too much out. Praying for an extended version.

You'll probably get an extended version much like LOTR. But it's always a problem with movies from books about them leaving parts out. It's near impossible to find a movie that was good as the book.

Actually, I thought The Princess Bride as a movie was a lot better than the book because they kept only the good stuff. The book is waay too long.
