Garnet awoke to find herself laying down in a soft bed and in a strange place that she had never heard of before. " Beatrix , where are we ? " she asked as she sat up in bed and looked around her as if to try to regain her compsure and focus her eyes.

It had taken nearly two hours to walk the area of Besaid but the information gleamed had been well worth the endeavour. For the most basic of geography she had learned the town's name to be Besaid and that for hundreds of years it had been a southern island of Spira, what the locals called their world, but had recently developed a neighbouring city named Timber. So far no hostilities had broken out but some of the older villagers had been rather vocal about Timber's use of machina, their word for mechanics she assumed. What machina they described was much more advanced than what Beatrix had ever seen in Lindblum. Mind, the machina in the inn was as well. It also seemed that any villager who spoke the odd language Nir had described as being Al-Bhed was much more open to the idea of machina use. It brought to mind the difference between Cleyra and Burmecia's people.
Beatrix had wished to venture into the differing store houses or into the large central temple but the sun's position, despite this new world, was telling of noon. She had told asked the innkeeper Nir to explain Beatrix's departure to Garnet if she woke up before the knight's return. But as Beatrix stepped under the brightly coloured flaps of the inn's tent to see Garnet laid upon the bed fast asleep. Thank goodness, and not a moment too soon as Garnet woke from her slumber and turned to Beatrix. “We are in a small village named Besaid under the care of an Al-Bhed named Nir who owns this establishment. We are, as far as I understand, not on the Mist Continent and possibly not on Gaia at all. Our magics do not work, mist engines are referred to as machina and require no mist.” Beatrix brushed a tuft of hair out from in front of her face to reveal a little smile, "but we are safe.”
