Dancing with Vinnie was perhaps the most difficult, dangerous task that Rory had ever attempted in all of his 15 shards of existence. No matter how he flopped and flailed, the imposing femme fatale kept a tight grip on his wrist and maintained her own groove, sending him in all directions with no seeming rhyme or reason.

It was a dance that would send him descending into madness! Madness! ....Thank goodness it only lasted three minutes. As Atomica and the Rest....In Peace finished their song, Rory was finally released from his dance of potential breakage. Breathless, Rory stutteringly thanked Vinnie for the dance and dizzily stumbled away.

"Whuh...wow...." Was all he could muster out as he found himself coming to rest against the side of the stage. If he survived that, he could probably survive anything the dance floor threw at him! Rory turned around and looked up on the stage. Melody, Atomica and Vanissha looked stunning, but the only one he could see up there was Marceline. She was gore-geous, bathed in the multicolored spotlights. She may have been trying to hide behind the other ghouls in the band, but it was impossible up there. She was a star!

"Marceline!" Rory tried calling over the cheers and applause. "Marceliiiiinnneee!"

Atomica and the RIPs ended their song on a power chord as the student bodies of Monster High cheered and applauded. Vinnie shot Rory a wry smile, perhaps her way of thanking him for a fun dance, and ditched him without another word. She had had enough of being ignored by her date for one evening; for one unlifetime, for that matter.

Finding Perry still dancing and talking with Demona, Vinnie wrapped her claw around his wing and forcefully spun him around towards her. She twisted her tentacles into a snarl as her eyes burned into him.

"Alright, bird-boy. What's your deal?"Vinnie spat. "You and I have danced exactly once all night, and the rest of the time you've been flat out avoiding me. Trust me, I know what that looks like."

There was a glistening in her reptilian eyes, as if for a moment she was near tears. Her nostrils flared with a sharp exhale.

"If you didn't want to spend any time with me, why did you agree to go out with me?? Why would you toy with my feelings like that?!"

The dead air in the grymnasium crept over Vinnie and Perry, thick like fog on the moors. Eyes burned into them, as they tend to do when dram-uhh touches ground. Vinnie didn't care much, though; the attention fueled her anger and hurt.

"I'll give you exactly three seconds to explain why you've been avoiding me all night, Perry." She hissed at him.

"Marceline!" Rory tried calling over the cheers and applause. "Marceliiiiinnneee!"

As if the lights and all the cheering monsters wasn't enough to make her fangxious, Marceline could hear Rory's voice above all the others'. She spotted him in the crowd, flailing his arms trying to get her attention... This was confusing to her. Did he want to be with her or Jewels? Could he even decide that himself? Did he care that Jewels could see him now, calling Marceline's name as she shredded her aggoredion to accompany Atomica's autotuned aria? Does this mean she won the game for Rory's heart?

As the song ended and the school erupted into cacophonous applause, Marceline bowed modestly and slipped the straps of her aggoredion off her shoulders, letting the instrument ease down to the floor with an audible plop. She stepped off the stage, pressing her way through the crowd to Rory. Her eyelashes fluttered in the dim light as she gazed up at him, her gilded lips pursed in a gentle pout; she lifted herself upon the balls of her feet, and just as it seemed they were about to share in their first kiss... Marceline suddenly leaned to one side, bringing herself just close enough to Rory's ear that he could hear her whisper...

"What is the meanin' of this, Rorrim?" Marceline's voice wavered. In her hands was the crumpled and torn front page of the Gory Gazette, the incriminating photograph of Rory in full view.

Perry cringed a little under Vinnie's glare and whispered "not.. here... " Indicating they should go elsewhere, away from all the eyes and the whispering gossip already starting.
He grabbed Vinnie by one hand and practically dragged her outside, where it was quiet and nobody was watching.

"Ok.. ok.. I can explain.. I... really can it's just.. "

He looked a little worried.

"Just... warn me before you punch me ok? I... don't really want you breaking my glasses. Nose is fine, but yeah, stumbling around blind really isn't cool. "

He was changing the subject wasn't he? She glared and he yelped a little.

"Right.. um.. So Vinnie um.. listen.. i'm so sorry. You are.. a really cool.. incredibly terrifying ghoul"

He watched her warily, fully expecting her to last out.

"I didn't.. I mean Nathair warned me but I thought he was just being overdramatic as usual. "

He lowered his head and sighed.

"I'm sorry. It was a real jerk move just running off like that."

He felt guilty, he could see the hurt in her eyes and he really didn't know how to fix it.
He gulped and continued.

"I'm not exactly... very clued up on ghouls. You may as well be from another dimension.I.. I... panicked."

Vinnie glowered at him as he fumbled for an explanation, and the more his mouth moved, the less sense he seemed to be making. Seeing him writhe like this did evoke a sense of satisfaction, but more than that she wanted an answer. Her eyes batted in a very irritated cluster of blinks, and her tentacles curled up tight, just barely exposing her fanged teeth at him. But then, with a sigh, she relaxed.

"What exactly are you trying to tell me, Perry?" Vinnie said, coldly.

He took a deep breath.

"Ok... truth is..."

This was frustratingly difficult, honestly he'd never really had to out and out TELL anyone before now.

"You... sure you aren't gonna punch me right?"

She shot him a look that made him shrink away a little, hands raised defensively.

"ok ok, i'm getting to the point. I um.. Vinnie, you're clawsome and you're determined and you're tough and I respect that. You're great fun to be around but.. you're a ghoul and I.. "

He looked apologetic, keeping his voice down as he explained.

"i'm not attracted to ghouls."

He wasn't really sure what to expect, what her reaction might be, but he babbled on regardless, not giving her the time to respond.

"Listen, please.. don't tell everyone. I know it's stupid but I just... you see how gossip gets out of control around here. I don't want any part of it. I prefer my private life stays that way, without speculation or rumour. Just.. please... don't... tell... anyone. "

He watched her cautiously now, slowly lowering his hands.

"Are... are you ok?"

Vinnie's tentacles drooped, stunned, and her skin faded into a sickly pea-soup green. Within the span of moments, her mind reviewed the past few weeks over and over... she scrambled to determine if there was any hint at this in the past... any clue she didn't catch along the way... if there was one, she remained blissfully unaware of it, due to her own feelings getting in the way.

She was somewhat relieved, however, that Perry's lack of attention toward her was simply because of his preference; it wasn't, for once, because she wasn't good enough, or too unpredictable, or needed more than he could give her... Still, she had a reputation, one she put on the line in the name of her feelings. She breathed in and out slowly, her brow furrowing as she closed her eyes.

"I feel. Like a complete. Fool." Vinnie said with every exhale, just before pivoting on her heel and hastened out the main doors of the school.

"Vinnie wait!"

He called after her, but she'd already disappeared back inside.
He sighed, muttering to himself "Way to go Perry."

He shook his head and waited a few minutes before returning to the dance himself. May as well see it through to the end, and given he was supposed to be catching a ride home with Nathair and his sisters, he didn't have much choice anyway.

He located his serpentine friend sitting at a table, chatting with one of his sisters.

"hey... " He slumped into a seat.

"Hey... Ye uh.. dinnae look so good." Nathair frowned to his sister who shrugged.

"What's got ye feathers ruffled?" She asked.

"Does she have to be here?"

"Well fine, be tha' way. " She rose, uncoiling.

"I take it I was right?" Nathair reached out a hand to stop his sister leaving. "He's upset a ghoul, a woman's perspective might be useful."

Perry sighed, but his friend was right. "Fine, yes, she's upset. You were... " He hesitated, struggling to say it.

"Go on?"

the naga ghoul stifled a giggle.

"You were... right.. "
Perry spoke through gritted teeth.

"Aye, a course I was right. Ye know nothin' about lasses an i'm surrounded by em."

"You don't have to gloat."

"Aye, but ye did nay have tae whack me across the head earlier either."

"It was an accident. You were in the way." Perry lied.

"Ye really are a terrible liar. But hey, dinnae ye worry, i'll get ye back." He looked to his sister and smirked, she nodded.

Perry groaned. "I hate you guys."

"We know." The female slithered around to sit on Perry's other side, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Look, it'll blow over. Give her a wee bit a space, maybe some candy."

"Aye, ghouls love candy."

"It's true, we do."

"I dunno... "

"well ye got two options. Sit an mope, or man up an make it right."

"So... candy will make it right?"

"No, but it's a start."

"Fine, i'l bow to the greater wisdom of the Addersons."

"Aye, abou' time ye did." Nathair laughed. "Ye'll be alrigh' though, dinnae worry. We've got ye back an hey.. doesn't look like she punched ye."

"That's a good point. I did get out of it without a black eye."

"I hardly think ye can count that as a victory." Nathair's sister protested.

"I'll take it." Perry shook his head. "Can we talk about something else? Please?"

"Aye, sure. Punch?" Nathair snickered a little and handed a cup to his friend who glared but took it.

Marceline LaGhede

"What is the meanin' of this, Rorrim?" Marceline's voice wavered. In her hands was the crumpled and torn front page of the Gory Gazette, the incriminating photograph of Rory in full view.

"What's tha-WOAH." Rory's eyes nearly bugged out of his head at the picture Marceline waved back and forth in front of his eyes. "When did Iris take-oooh....."

Rory thought back to the big game on Friday, when he'd leaned over to ask Jewels a question...and Iris had snuck in and snapped a picture of the two of them!

"Iris took this when I was asking Jewels a quest- wait, are you mad about this?" Rory looked at Marceline's chilly demeanor and instinctively hunched inward. She WAS mad about it. "Marceline, it's not what it looks like. Honest! I mean...I know it looks like we're about to....and with the Kiss Kam later...but it was for...I mean..."

Rory paused to keep himself from hyperventilating, trying to snatch the right words out of the air. He'd messed up. He'd messed up BIG time. He took a deep breath.

"Iris had been pestering us all night for pictures for the Gory Gazette. Iris wasn't getting any sort of working pictures out of it, so she surprised us and took one later when I was just asking Jewels a question. But that picture doesn't reflect the real story." Suddenly, grimspiration struck Rory. "I know! Look...come with me. Okay? Trust me."

Hesitantly, Marceline followed Rory as the two exited the grimnasium and passed through the hallway to the boos room. Rory swung the door open.

"Augh! A GHOUL!"
Heath Burns shouted, running out without even washing his hands. Rory turned to the mirror and pressed his palm against it.

"It's not a magic mirror so this isn't going to be as clear as I'd like, but at least you'll see.

Mirror mirror on the wall
Show Marceline the story all!"

The mirror quavered on the surface like ripples on a pond, and then began showing a scene from the previous day....

The Past
With the field cleared, the Halfslime show was free to begin and Monster High's Fear Squad took to the field along with the Monster High Lurching Band. Rory hummed along to the school Fright Song as students filed up and down the aisles, shouting congratulations at him and Jewels.

"Hey, do we have to sit here all night?" Rory leaned over and asked Jewels. "Like, maybe during the second half, would it be okay if we went down and sat by-"

*FLASH!* Rory blinked. Iris Clops was back, taking a picture of Rory leaned over and talking in Jewels' ear.

"ADORABLE!" She cried as she ran off again. Rory grumbled.

"For a cyclops, she sure seems to be able to see the worst times to take a picture well." Rory peered through the throngs of monsters heading to the concession stands, trying to catch a glimpse of Glen, Draconia or Marceline in the crowd.

The mirror stopped rippling and Rory took his palm off of it.

"Jewels is a great ghoul. She's super-nice and sweet and she deserved every vote for Tombcoming Scream Queen she got. But Marceline..." Rory put his hand over his chest. "I wouldn't show any other ghoul my heart."

Marceline watched intently as the mirror played back a moment from yesterday's game, one she'd missed when she went to the snack stand. She bit her lip, feeling foolish for doubting Rory. She sighed, letting out a nervous laugh.

"I'm sorry, Rory. I shouldn'tve believed this..." Marceline crumpled the newspaper sheet and threw it into the trash. "Anyway, you must think I'm such a fool..."

She hung her head and fiddled with her fingers, embarrassed.

"You're not a fool!" Rory declared, taking Marceline's hands into his. "This reflects your insecurities. And, we all have them, you know?"

With her hands in his, their faces were inches apart.

"I'm always worried that I'll do the wrong thing, and then I'll wind up getting hurt." Rory released one of her hands, and stroked her cheek. "But I would never, ever do something that would hurt you."

He tipped her chin up...and then, the distance between their lips closed and they were kissing.

In the middle of the boo's bathroom.

"Bro, get a room!" Bram DeVein muttered as he walked in, apparently undeterred from his task by the sight of TRUE ROMANCE taking place in front of the sinks. "Or at the very least, a stall."

Marceline's undead heart fluttered as Rory's lips met hers, forgetting briefly that they were in the boos' bathroom. It wasn't until Bram sneered at them that she came back to reality. She shyly pulled away from Rory, letting out a gentle laugh.

"Well," She cleared her throat. "Shall we go dance, then?"
PostPosted: Tue Feb 25, 2014 6:20 pm
"I can't think of anything I'd want to do more." Rory replied, for once his voice not cracking. "Shall we?"

He offered his arm to Marceline, who gladly took it. The two of them strode past Bram, who rolled his eyes and went back to doing his business.

Back in the Grimnasium, Rory led Marceline onto the dance floor. Up on the stage, Atomica gestured at Marceline, then sighed as it was obvious the R.I.P were going to be down one member for the next song.
