Fantasy Worlds/Lands

Anyone here ever created your own land/city/world? Talk about them here, me personally I've created a entire fantasy world with different races living on them. . . mostly lizard people. I've even began creating mystical and fantasy creatures as well, I could go into explaining it all, but I'll feel like I'm rambling on about nonsense (if I'm not already) and so maybe i'll write it out later.

So ya, if you want people to hear the ideas you have feel free to post, me personally I dont mind circumcising because it can help out but dont over do it, stuff like, "Oh the atmosphere needs a right temperature" or "Oh this creature's bone mass or diet is unsustainable" okay I get that, I'm not a scientist that studies the inorganic structures of molecules. Just post what you like and see what other have as well. And please respect other people's work, trust me, I'd hate to see negative comments towards my creations because It's been in the making for a few years and still working no it.

As a writer, I've always been fascinated by world-creation. I enjoy reading books about other worlds if they are well-thought out and detailed in that world's history and lore. I may create a world of my own someday and write about it, but I'm not sure exactly what I would do to make my world sound convincing to my readers.

Here is a small part of it, I'm not really going into full detail but I'm posting what I can right now.


Drachen is a planet is fairly around 6 times larger than Earth, about 80% water and nearly 90% of the land is either jungles, the tropics, forests, and grasslands. There are few deserts and none are incredible massive, there are also the ice lands in the north and south pole and just like Earth it is angled on its axis. Having 56 hours in a day, 458 days a year, and only 8 months, two for every season.

As large as the planet is there is billions of life forms and plants, some similar to Earth and some very different. In numerous shapes/sizes/colors/habits/and characteristics. There is of course advanced life forms, as Earth is a habitat for humans, Drachen supports a lizard-like race called Dragon Warriors (Dont judge I haven't come up with a tradition name for their race yet, It's been like this for years).

Dragon Warriors are a blue lizardman-like race (No I did not get this from avatar, again, this has been being made for nearly 5 years) that stand about 5.9-6.7 feet tall average. Mainly looking the same they are a light blue color, stand on two legs, have two arms, and have normally a 3-4 feet long tail, unlike most reptiles who's tail is nearly just as long or double the length, a Dragon Warriors tail is considered short. Their tail has bone and is mostly made up of fat, but unlike some lizards, they cannot separate their tail from their body (defensively anyways) but they have full control over their tail and can be used as a weapon against opponents.

Their arms and legs are similar to a humans, strong muscles to help survive, strong legs as well, if they were really fit and muscular, their arms and legs would appear to have more muscle than their torso. They have short sharp claws at the end of their fingers and toes, which can be used for climbing, attacking, and other needs.

Their head is narrow, similar of a monitor lizard. The two eyes they have, can be either Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Brown, and White. Blue is the most common and white being rare. Green, Yellow, Orange, and Brown and very similar and have little differences when seeing things. The white eye color is rare and the Dragon Warrior isnt blind, but is known to have eye sight problems in the future and normally become blind.

As for Life style, the Dragon Warriors have been living the same way of life for thousands of years, their race is nearly 800 thousand years old ((I dont wanna hear that, god made the Earth 3000 years ago crap, this is fantasy I'm not going to base it off the bible stare )) and they barely changed since they first began. Living in a dark age, with no electricity, massive cities, or political needs. Normally they live in tribes, towns, or travel as nomads across the land. They live a simple and peaceful life, little to no crime ever happens among them and they rarely cause a crime. They work with each other as they create and care for farms, hunt for other animals, gather water, fishing; gathering berries, fruits, nuts, wood, and other materials needed for others, and other tasks.

((This is a religion I made for them, dont have to read it but it also states a Evolution theory for them.))

In religion, they have one belief and never changed it, there has never been a another opinion about another god, they all follow one religion and know it well. Long ago, before the Dragon Warriors existed, the world was populated with dragons as they lived peacefully on the planet. Dragon were the dominate race and live in harmony, until a dark and evil race brought war onto the planet, the war lasted for years, killing everything, and soon it came to the most powerful creature, the one who create everything, the world, life, and everything else. The Chaos Emperor Dragon, he gathered his 10 Elemental Guardians together at a temple that still barely stands today, there the Elemental Dragons of Life, Light, Fire, Water, Darkness, Death, Air, Earth, Time,and Gravity; they all combined their powers to create a new and unique race, 2000 dragons warriors were created, blessed with a ancient armor and weapons, the 2000 fought off the evil and after 4 days of endless war, only 40 of them survived and were victorious, but their creatures had scarified themselves to create them. Only the great and powerful Chaos Emperor Dragon survived, who mysteriously vanished and left them. It was those 40 that found peace in life, and slowly, their numbers grew, after 1000 years, their numbers had increased to a few hundred, after 10,000 years their numbers were a few thousand, and the numbers climbed. Til this day, they dont have statues or images of the dragon that created them and worship it, but they remember him well and keep that day long ago in their hearts and memory and know, that one day, when the great evil awakens, he will return to protect them as they fight off the evil once more.

The evolution theory . . . I'm probably not even going to get into that, but in short, I'm going to say it all crappy and stuff. Eel that lived in the ocean, turned blue from the water and the nature where it lived -> started to live in more shallow water soon adapting with legs and lungs to breathe the air above the water -> living in a large jungle that had many insects that caused infection and habitat with rough lands made the weird lizard-eel thing grow thicker skin -> feeding on other smaller animals and fruit and insects, some animals got faster and they adapted to catch them, making more muscles in the arms and legs -> little food on the ground but more in the trees, arms and legs adapted to grow longer to climb trees better -> started to jump from tree to tree allowing them to move around faster, making the tail shorter since they didn't need much balance since their claws provided strong grips on the trees. Shorter tail meant less weight, less weight meant faster jumps and faster movement. -> thousands of years passed and they started to travel across the globe and soon adapted to run faster on their hind legs -> soon standing upright, they became more intelligent making them what they are now. There I said it, and if you were on this world, even the Dragon Warriors would agree there are many flaws in this evolution theory about them.

Well I really like this idea also. And I have been making an imaginary place in our house together with my toys. Yeah you've heard it. You guys would think that I am a cute little kindergarten kid who goes to Gaia. But you are wrong. And if you don't think me in that way. You are still wrong. I don't really know what goes into my mind now but I have an imaginary place in our house.

It was those 40 that found peace in life, and slowly, their numbers grew, after 1000 years, their numbers had increased to a few hundred, after 10,000 years their numbers were a few thousand, and the numbers climbed. Til this day, they dont have statues or images of the dragon that created them and worship it, but they remember him well and keep that day long ago in their hearts and memory and know, that one day, when the great evil awakens, he will return to protect them as they fight off the evil once more.

Eel that lived in the ocean, turned blue from the water and the nature where it lived -> started to live in more shallow water soon adapting with legs and lungs to breathe the air above the water -> living in a large jungle that had many insects that caused infection and habitat with rough lands made the weird lizard-eel thing grow thicker skin -> feeding on other smaller animals and fruit and insects, some animals got faster and they adapted to catch them, making more muscles in the arms and legs -> little food on the ground but more in the trees, arms and legs adapted to grow longer to climb trees better -> started to jump from tree to tree allowing them to move around faster, making the tail shorter since they didn't need much balance since their claws provided strong grips on the trees. Shorter tail meant less weight, less weight meant faster jumps and faster movement. -> thousands of years passed and they started to travel across the globe and soon adapted to run faster on their hind legs -> soon standing upright, they became more intelligent making them what they are now. There I said it, and if you were on this world, even the Dragon Warriors would agree there are many flaws in this evolution theory about them.

I love your idea. I'd like to know more about the evil the came upon the land. Your people already had defenses and things against normal predators in their environment so where did the evil come from? How did the 40 survive?

What was the "evil"? Why have the Dragon Warriors not evolved past what would be our medieval times in 800,000 years? Why aren't there any conflicting interpretations of their religion? It sounds like a good start.

Tolkien wrote an interesting article on world-building. (Well, part of it was on world-building... It's a long article. He was an Oxford professor after all.) On Fairy-stories. The PDF is online, and you can skim to the sections that interest you. I find the theories he has about developing secondary world fantasy very interesting.

Also, anyone developing their own fantasy world with a magic system should check out (Brandon) Sanderson's Laws. They're on his blog I believe. He's kind of the king of magic systems and world-building (universe-building...) right now.
