Quick sketch of Kora from my DnD game. The scar on her cheek is relatively new. She took a trident to the face two sessions back! It was the same session that her brother was killed in.

Current unfinished sketch of Oracle and Sassiah! Getting ready for Lycurgus's big hallowe-en ball! Sassiah decided to channel her heritage and dress as a fire witch, while Oracle thought it would be fun to surprise her best friend as a black cat familiar!

For those who were not apart of that RP, Sassiah is one of my older characters. A mage, specialized with fire and oracles. She was not a very nice person, even to those in the pack. After her father was killed in battle she became very withdrawn, rude, and power hungry. The only person she was ever kind or honest with was Oracle, her best friend! Despite her thirst for power, the Lycurgus Alpha kept her close by because of her magic, and battling strength. Oracle on the other hand, was optimistic, mischievous, and followed her heart- even though that was only going to lead to trouble. Oracle was I believe Titans character!

Bellemiere, in honour of the proposal! A contour sketch of my personal image of Bellemiere: Heart-shaped face, round garnet eyes, graceful long neck, long white hair, and an angelic appearance that hides the dangerous grace and deadly skill of a mercenary.

An interesting fact. Bellemiere was my first character ever played in Lunar. When I first joined the guild, I made Bellemiere and Ara. Ara joined with Lycurgus, determined to destroy the granddaughter who went against her reign. Bellemiere came to Lunar an exhausted wanderer. At the time she had difficulty fitting in due to her past of hierarchies, duty, and of course customs. She was not a beta, but instead became a simple Guardian and worked to protect the yearlings in training. Her romance with Atreyu was not started until the guild was recreated. The reason I love Atreyu as her "love" is because he is very similar to her love interest in another story... Raphael.

...Speaking of the other story...

Originally, Bellemiere was created and developed for my story "the Dasshi" (Liberation, Metamorphosis, Resurrection). She is the main character of the trilogy, and a very different person then you see here. The same background, she is raised as a mercenary alongside her twin Rellemiere, both are trained by their grandmother to take over the guild. After Rellemiere is killed during a mission, Bellemiere grows depressed and leaves the city. She returns after ten long years with a venomous hatred for the guild, and what she sees as its corrupt behaviour. She begins to build a revolution to destroy the Dasshi once and for all, and take away its hold on the city. Described as cold, confidant, analytical, and cunning, she is building a revolution that would destroy the corrupt mercenary guild run headed by her grandmother Ara Austen. In the Dasshi, Kora plays a secondary role- mostly as the comedic relief and the realist in some of the most horrendous situations (the books touch on subject matter such as: child soldiers, drug use, domestic violence, terrorism, poverty, militarism, political corruption in democracy, class division, etc. The books can get EXTREMELY dark and violent). While Bellemiere serves as the passioned leader (and many times hypocritical), Kora is the mischievous rebel without a cause. Kora joins Bellemiere's forces only to protect her friends, and will call out Bellemiere for her hypocrisy. The Dasshi is a story that I would LOVE to have published one day! Bellemiere and Kora have become two of my favourite characters of all the ones I've created. The characters you see in Lunar are much different from those in my story. Bellemiere is played as if her respective storyline is over, she is the person she becomes at the end of the trilogy. Kora on the other hand has been given a completely different backstory in the guild, and in my DnD group- despite this she has many of the same characteristics: her extreme loyalty, protectiveness towards those she deems herself responsible of, and an eye for trouble.

Hope you enjoyed a bit of history on my characters!

A VERY rough draft of the first chapter.

Chapter 1
Return of a Traitor

At Five in the morning the city was just awakening from its ever ignorant slumber. At six in the morning the first rays were still not visible, shop keepers began to prepare for the coming day hoping that maybe this one would be different from the last hundreds of days that they worked with a monotone efficiency. Change was what they wanted, yet change they could not handle, nor begin to understand.

It was now seven in the morning and the streets were bustling with activity, it did not take the people of Lenon long to get up and welcome the coming day with the first rays of light peeking from behind the horizon of water.

Genesis however was only slipping into her room, her eyes dark with fatigue from a long night of patrolling her designated territory. Blood was still smeared on her cheek, and when she went to wash up she barely noticed, brushing it away with no thought to the person she had killed. It wasn’t her job to feel for the thousands she brutally brought down without effort, nor was it her job to think about the directions she was given. Genesis understood that her place in life was to be the weapon that dealt out the Dasshi’s wishes and to protect the city from the threat it bore to itself.

Sitting down and pulling off her boots with a sharp tug, Genesis began her morning routine of cleaning her clothing and weapons of any excess from the night before. Dark spots of blood had already dried to her boots and pants, she was careful to wipe it away without any trace. When it came to her katana Genesis was even more particular, not only wiping away the blood and cleaning out each groove of engraved lettering but to sharpen its edge and polish the gleaming silver medal.

Once this was done, she moved into the bathroom where she undressed and stepped into the shower without once looking into the decorated full length mirror that had been a gift from her first teacher for passing her first test to Killer.

It wasn’t that Genesis wasn’t vain in any way, but she had completely lost the desire to look beautiful as most of the Dasshi members did. Most around her took complete care to look their best for their night time strolls, going to a measure of lengths to ensure that any man or woman trapped beneath their blades was entranced with the monster standing before them. Genesis however was different. Her kills were not meant for enjoyment, they were purely orders and the unfortunate sucker to get on Genesis’s hit list for the night would be hunted down without mercy. Unlike the others, she left no mark, no body and no witness. It was clean and horrifyingly swift. She couldn’t remember whether or not it had always been that way, but now it was all she believed in, the word of the Dasshi and the edge of her blade.

She didn’t need to prepare her face and hair for the night. Genesis was naturally stunning in every way. With her long dark coppery red hair that fell just past her chin in soft waves. It was not the colour of fire, but a rusty shade of blood. Her skin was naturally golden even without the daylight she had deprived herself of for years, her cheek bones were high up and although her eyes were slightly slanted they were a large and exotic blue like none seen before. As a tall, slim woman, She caught the attention of everyone walking by, even when she did her best to avoid it. Everything about Genesis screamed that she came from a far away land, but she could never tell you what was in her past, or whom she inherited the raw colour of her hair from.

She lived by her routine each and every night waiting for the day that she would finally be promoted to the highest rank she could receive as an assassin. To be a Death’s Apprentice for one of the five counsel members. Today her routine was broken as soon as she stepped out of the shower and for the first time tripped on her perfectly placed rug. A single stone that had fallen from her clothes caught in the palm of her hand and drew a small speck of blood.

“********.”

The sound of her voice was loud in the silent suit. The silence that followed was again disturbed instead by a loud and stressful knock on her suit room door.

Quickly wrapping herself in a towel and ignoring the stinging pain in her hand she opened the door for a young messenger who was waiting nervously.

“Ara Austen has requested your presence in her personal quarters.”

Genesis sighed and nodded, allowing the messenger in her room while she made her way behind a curtain to change into something comfortable yet formal enough to meet her leader in. The message itself was nothing new. Ara was always requesting meetings of some type or another, and due to her high status she was to be present at most of them unless a mission kept her from being there. Ara was a strict leader, and tardiness was never accepted. Still, the location change was new to her in an alarming way. Ara Austen was a private woman. Never before had the leader allowed anyone below a counsel to step foot into her rooms.

“Is it true?” A small voice from behind the curtains suddenly spoke up.

“What is?” Genesis’s own voice was void of emotion although a strain of annoyance was easily heard.

“You haven’t heard? Well... A few Soldiers came back this morning claiming to have seen Bellemiere Austen arriving off of a boat in the harbor.”

Genesis had just finished her dressing when the messenger mentioned her name. Ripping the curtain away, her face flushed she turned to the messenger with a feral expression. “That is impossible. I don’t know what kind of gossip you’ve heard but Bellemiere Austen is a traitor who was exiled from Lenon.” Taking a breath to calm down she walked to the door not looking back. “Don’t speak her name to me again.”

She waited for the small girl to scurry down the hall in front of her before she continued behind, the conversation ending there.

The Dasshi headquarters were marvelous to behold. Light shown through large glass windows, some with stained glass designs of roses and swans. Every now and then they would walk by a room. The hallway was lit by sunlight for the most part but needed soft lighting for the few areas of darkness they passed. The walls themselves were the colour of ivory with beautiful mixed media murals on some. The acritechture was modern with small designs taken from different eras: gothic, victorian, renaissance and classical. As they made their way up the spiral oak stairs in the center of the building designs flashed before them. The golden railings, the angel sculptures, the silver swans, it was all apart of the Dasshi traditions. Artwork and beauty would always be prized by the Dasshi women.

Finally Genesis stepped through the door as the messenger scurried off away from her temperamental patron.

Voices from another room lead her into a sitting area where around her were the three counsel members, the heir, and their most highly prized soldiers. Each of the highest ranked Dasshi members came from one of the four original founding families: Austen, Danzci, Nyxian and Onia. Each of those members had their own private soldiers who would listen to their orders alone unless of course it was the Austen general or her heir that gave the order. A Death’s Apprentice (DA) was the assassin who lead the army below them in times of fighting, they were the trained killers. A High Thought (HT) was the reason and logic, they dealt with all communication and technology as the winds beneath the wings, heading off their own group of intelligence. Finally the Invisible (I) the women who were unafraid to tail or even assimilate into enemy lines finding any information they could as spies, even stealing and giving false clues.

Genesis was one of the only women in the room who did not have a similar title.

Ara smiled as she entered the room and gestured to the last seat nearest the door. The room went silent all eyes on their leader, the general.

The Austen family had led the Dasshi since its creation hundreds of years before, and Ara Austen was said to be the most brutal and strongest of those leaders. She showed no emotion when it came to killing, and during the Dasshi’s own civil war had defeated her own older sisters when they attempted to take power from her hands. Ara was a cold woman- and despite her seventy years, she looked no older then forty. Very few age lines graced her features, her silvery blonde hair was cut perfectly around her face, just coming down to her chin. The Austen line’s most defined feature, the blazing garnet eyes still glinted with fire and ice. She was beautiful and every woman in the room was envious of her youthful appearance. It seemed to be an Austen trademark, to live long, yet die young.

The only other woman who was graced with beauty despite their age was Ara’s older sister Nigha Austen. Black hair tied back in a low pony that fell to her waist, unlike Ara’s cold gaze, Nigha was warm. Her Garnet eyes were shaped like a cats constantly twinkling with curiosity. Her personality was much different from her sister’s- both women were cunning and intelligent, but Nigha did not hold the same patience as her sister. Where Ara was collected and thoughtful, Nigha was temperamental and sarcastic. Despite the difference, out of the six original daughters, Nigha followed, protected and aided her younger sister in any way she could. After Bellemiere’s abandonment, Ara had appointed Nigha to become the heir.

The four founding families all looked on towards Genesis with great respect. Every woman knew of her private life, and each held admiration for the strength and detached emotions Genesis portrayed. A perfect soldier, one they all wanted by their sides.

“Genesis.” Ara’s smile was a deceiving thing, yet every time Ara smiled at her underlings, they all felt as though they had been blessed.

“As some of you have heard today, Bellemiere Austen has returned to the city.” Nigha’s voice cut in impatiently. “She has already killed Ara’s own DA, she did not bother to hide the body, nor did she bother to clean her traces. Bellemiere is not here to return to us, and we believe she is sending us a clear message for war.”

Genesis felt her heart pump faster, she didn’t dare show surprise or emotion as the other women in the room did. She closed her eyes for a brief second. She waited, waited for Nigha to declare the news a joke so they could all laugh about it later. The messenger had not been simply gossiping, she had been right. For the first time in years, she felt pain. Her hand began to throb where the stone had cut in, and her head began to pound. It felt like the world she had built up after Bellemiere’s leaving was crumbling down. What was she to her now? Instead of being a traitor everyone could forget about, a name no one dared to mention, she had become the ghost that would constantly haunt her.

Ara took over the conversation, silencing the others in the room who had responded in an uproar. No one had wanted to believe the news, but now that their own leaders had stated it, the rumor had become reality. A reality no one wanted to face.

“Please everyone, silence.” Ara had a way of speaking that commanded respect, and no one dared to object to her authority and interrupt. Genesis looked up to her leader, she had to stop her hands from shaking, she had to make her head stop spinning, she couldn’t show any of this, she couldn’t allow anyone to see what the news was doing to her.

“We have already formed a strategy, we don’t want to act too swiftly until we know her reasons for returning. As I have lost Delilah Danzci as my Death’s Apprentice, Genesis you will be replacing her from today on.” No one seemed even remotely surprised by this set of news, everyone knew it would come one day. Ara barely gave her a passing glance before she continued. “As we know, Bellemiere’s greatest strength is her ability to strategize in seconds, she is unpredictable and quick. No one is to approach her. If you see her, you are to report back to me or Nigha with her where-abouts, and no one else. We do not want to lose any trainees who think they can gain status by defeating her. For now we are only going to tail her and gain information. When we believe we have gained enough, we will return here to devise a battle plan to take her out as quickly and as clean as possible. We do not want any other guilds picking up on her betrayal and return, it will make the Dasshi seem weak that we have not yet hunted her. You are not to speak her name in the presence of others, only to those within the Dasshi. Is this understood?”

Ara’s last words held a note of finality and no one spoke. Genesis nodded, her composure slowly returning to her. She let out a long held breath and nodded to her leader. Her dreams had finally come true, yet she felt no happiness, no joy or excitement. Genesis knew full well why Ara had decided to appoint her now- she understood although she never wanted to admit to it.

“How do we know it is truly... Her.” Cecilia Onia, third counsel spoke up. Her old voice filled with fear. Genesis smiled. Cecilia had been afraid of Bellemiere since the girl had been a child. Cecelia had disobeyed Ara’s orders, and Bellemiere had almost killed her in return, even at twelve years of age Bellemiere could still defeat any skilled adult easily. Genesis thought back, “if it hadn’t been for Relle,” she thought to herself, “Bellemiere would have killed a lot of people.”

“We know it was Bellemiere because she cut a moon and a sun into Delilah’s forehead. She left a single note at the scene next to the body, a Shadow working for the DA managed to slip it in her pocket to give it to me this morning.”

Ara reached into her pocket and held out the paper for everyone to see. It took some squinting, but once Genesis could see it clearly, she felt herself go cold with dread. She recognized at once Bellemiere’s sharp handwritting.

“Liberation! This is only the beginning.”

The words made her hand sting even more, a lump rose to her throat. In her heart Genesis knew, Ara wanted her to be the one to kill Bellemiere. Genesis would have to kill her own best friend.

Rough draft of the unfinished last chapter in the second book. Yes I write a lot.

Last Chapter

Shattered

Through the broken window of the theatre the days first rays of light drifted in, highlighting the dank, dusty condition of the office. Kora peered out the window. Despite the fact that the fight was over, her nerves were shot. She couldn’t put down the feeling that they were about to be attacked. Never before had she felt so helpless, for the first time in her life she had important people to protect. For the first time she knew she would throw herself before a sword if it meant giving them only minutes more to breathe. Now she stood guard, bracing her hands into the filthy window sill, straining to keep her tired eyes open; because even now while they counted their dwindling numbers in relative safety, she could not allow evil to creep upon her friends.

A nudge at her hand, and a persistent whimper brought her attention towards her feet. Kree, with his intrusive golden eyes, looked into her own glazed and tired green ones. With a sudden burst of emotion Kora turned from her guard to sit on the floor. Wrapping her arms around her constant companion she began to sob hard, gripping his dark fur as if it was the only lifeline for miles. Kora couldn’t remember crying even as a young child. Her mother had often announced with pride that she had been a quite baby, only ever crying out for milk; even when she had become ill with a fever, she had remained silent. Ara herself declared it to be a sign of great strength. Remembering their proud faces, Kora thought of her own disdain. Perhaps even as a baby she had known that the women who surrounded her did not care for her tears. They did not hush her, or hold her lovingly. Even then, perhaps she had always known, that her tears were a waste. But now, clutching Kree, tears fell before her, soaking his warm body with her sorrow. In spite of those words, Kora did not feel weak for her sadness, as perhaps for the first time she had found true strength in her love.

Her time with Kree passed in a haze, whether she remained on the floor for a few hours or a few days was unknown. Sobs of sorrow came in waves, often dying for a time before flowing out again like the harbor tide. Kree never moved away from his master, often he bent to lick her face or nudge her consolingly, but he remained rooted to the floor until it was time for Kora to rise. Dawn became day, and the sounds of the bustling city pounded against the walls of the little theatre. Still, Kora and Kree remained in their sorrowful embrace. Only when the bustling sounds began to quiet with fading rays of the sun, a distinctive knock echoed through the room. Kora lifted her head and rose to the door, Kree creeping protectively behind her. Opening it tentatively, she didn’t bother to hide her tears, choosing to wear her sorrow upon her as a mark of her love for the people they lost.

“Kora, we need to see you on in the green room. We’re having a meeting.” Kyle’s voice wavered from exhaustion and mourning. He searched her face, as if trying to understand what was happening in front of his eyes. “Are you going to be alright?”

Kora laughed bitterly, “yes, what do you think. That I will become a broken mirror, unable to be put back together without revealing the damage. Of course I will be alright, Kyle, we are human.”

“We need you right now, the kids... The kids, they look up to you for protection.” He paused as though not sure how to explain himself without committing an offense. “You can’t fall apart- at this moment, we need you to be emotionally sane.”

Kora stared out at him, she felt as though she had been slapped in the face. “I’m not weak.” She hissed defensively before closing the door in his face, and turning her back to stare out at the darkening sky. “I’m not weak...” She murmured to herself, wrapping her arms protectively around her body.

“Kora. Kora? Please.” His voice sounded through the door, battered down and beaten.

“I’m coming, I’m simply... I’m coming.” Her heart ached with her losses. Only a moment ago, she cried for her love of the dead. Now she wiped the tears away for her love of the living. Opening the door once again, she saw that Kyle had already left. Her jaw clenched, had he thought she would selfishly choose to let loose her emotions when they called upon her? Stashing her frustrations in the back of her mind she walked along, not bothering to whistle for Kree, knowing full well that his intimidating black form followed loyally beside her.
