Malak thought for a moment before a wicked smile crept onto her face. She enjoyed the idea of driving this vile man insane, but she also enjoyed causing him to go paranoid. Scratching Kitty behind the cheek, Malak informed the cat about her idea. It was a truly great idea. "How about I make shadow versions of you. Make him, and even the other servants, think your around every corner, in every room? Like that idea, فتاتي الجميلة? Hmm?" If Malak was a cat, she would be purring. It was so nice petting such a pretty kitty-cat. "If you want, we can also check up on the new tenants while messing with the mean servants." It was a good idea to check up on Alexis and the other tenants in the manor.
[If you want, you can have Uncle Aaron put his two cents into the conversation at hand.]
Silver rubbed his temples as he digested what his uncles were telling him. A new bride? Honestly, he didn't think they could get more underhanded than they already were. Puede que volverse loco. He just didn't think his uncles would throw him such a curve ball. "Bien bien. Ahora, voy a entretener a esta idea de la suya, el tío Nicolás," he said as he adjusted himself in his seat. "Y qué decir de las consecuencias de romper un compromiso con la familia Ahmad?" Tío Nicolás snorted, which irritated Silver. "¿Las brujas? Ellos han sido y serán siempre seguirá siendo inferiores a nosotros. Somos brujos. Poderoso. Magnífico. Esas brujas son débiles y pálidos en comparación con nosotros." Silver felt his temper rising with each word Tío Nicolás spoke. Why was it that times like this, despicable people showed their true colors? Tío Santiago nodded, adding more insults with each passing second. Si las brujas tienen problema, vamos a callar. A diferencia de nosotros, no tienen las capacidades políticas o financieras como nosotros. Olvídate de Malak Ahmad. Aprender a amar a esta novia que hemos encontrado para ti." Tío Santiago sneered as he spoke, which again caused Silver's temper to rise. "Un mestizo como usted debería estar agradecido de que hemos puesto mucho esfuerzo en encontrar que una novia adecuada." "Nunca me llame un mestizo de nuevo." Silver was trembling in anger. He was ready to scream at his uncles. He didn't care about pretending like he was unimpressed by their actions, they pissed him off.

[It is, and it's so beautiful to write. I only wish I could write in Jordanian slang because that's what Malak would be speaking. Also, if I knew the shortcuts for the Arabic alphabet so I wouldn't be stuck writing it on Google. I love my native language so much.]
Malak felt her heart twinge when Kitty's purring grew louder, and her heart nearly gave out when Kitty gave her hand a lick. Cats were absolutely the best to have. She couldn't thank Allah enough for allowing her to have such beautiful animals. "I'm glad you agree. Now, let me send out a location spell..." It was not difficult to pull her wand out of her waistband and cast a spell to find the location of the man Kitty described, but it did take some time to find the man because Malak did not even know his name. The spell gave her the location of all the men in the house who she did not already know. It was only a matter of finding the right one on their own that posed some difficulty. "Alright, I've found the location of all the male servants. Let's hunt down our first victim," she said as she walked in the direction of the closest man her location spell found---
Beep! Beep! Beep!
The fire alarm went off.
Silver snarled at Tío Aaron for acting like he and the others were doing him a favor. "No finjas que me está haciendo un favor, tío Aaron," he hissed as he stood and took a step toward his three uncles. He had enough of them. He wanted them out. Now. "Nunca pretender que se preocupa por mí, o mi futuro. Sé que sólo se preocupan por el apellido y su precioso pedigrí." Silver watched as Tío Nicolás' eyes widened. Tío Santiago took a step back, holding his hands up to shield him. "Mi sobrino, por favor, cálmate." "¿Por qué?" Silver asked as he imagined running his uncles out of the manor and never seeing them again. "Porque..." Tío Santiago backed himself against the den wall. Tío Nicolás was backed up to the door. "Porque...de sus manos." "What about them?!" Silver finally let his temper lash out. He wiped his hands out, and immediately regretted it. Never before had he conjured anything, nothing at all, so he never felt the warm sensation of fire in his palms until the flames launched from his hands and onto the window curtains. The flames invoked smoke, which in turn invoked the fire alarm to go off.

[Well, you can. Plenty of YouTube videos exist that teach you Arabic. They are quite helpful. And yes, but that's just general. You see, dialects vary not just by nation of origin, but by village as well. My family and I are Palestinian, but my mother speaks with the Jerusalem accent while my father has the Ajeeb accent, which is slightly different from my mother's, but essentially the same, so if someone from a village farther away from my father's village was speaking to him, you could tell the difference in their speech and body language right away. In addition, slang changes as frequently as it does with any other language. I need to look into writing using the keyboard.]
Malak looked at Kitty and then up at the ceiling, as if that would help her locate the source of the fire. And, all in all, she was pretty calm about the fire alarm blaring. She was probably desensitized thanks to her U.S. education. Too many fire drills had turned her into a nonreactive witness to a real-life situation.
So, on that note, Malak pulled out her phone and texted her cousins in their group chat about the situation while she walked in the direction Kitty ran down. As she did, Malak picked up the fire extinguisher hidden in a tasteful cabinet near the hallway entrance. She was thankful her cousin hadthe foresight to note all the fire extinguishers in the manor. Sometimes modern technology worked better than magic when it came to problem-solving. "Kitty," Malak called as she carried the extinguisher over her shoulder with one hand and texted her cousins on the other, "Silver is fine." However, Malak knew that the cat would not believe her until she saw her dork of a master safe with her own eyes. It was an endearing quality of the cat.
Silver watched the curtains burn for a moment before the panic finally set in. He freaking set the curtains on fire; and they were the ones his mother picked out for his father. Sh*t. Sh*t. Sh*t. What was he to do? Glancing at his uncles, Silver thought they would know what to do. Unfortunately, he just saw them walking out of the room as if this wasn't their problem. "Wait a minute, you three," he called out as he rushed to the door. "Help me put out this fire." Tío Nicolás snorted. "We weren't the ones who set fire to the curtains." "But you are the ones who pissed me off enough to do it." His uncle opened his mouth for a retort, but an ear-shrieking yowl rang down the hall.
Now, since his mother was no longer here to yell at him for skipping lessons or breaking hearts, he could only assume the voice calling out his name belonged to Kitty. "I'm outside the den, Kitty. I'm safe!" he shouted down the hall, yet as he looked back at the burning curtains, he grimaced as the fire crawled up the satin threads. If his parents were here, he would be dead.

[More of my father's because it's his family who lives near mine, and so that's what I get. (Your questions aren't stupid. Don't worry!) Yeah, it does, somehow or another. Some people are more assertive and others more passive. It all depends on where you're from!]
Silver caught Kitty and held her close to his chest. She looked twice her size because of her fur, but she didn't let her appearance stop her from scolding him. Hesitantly laughing, Silver had to admit something to Kitty, a truth he never thought he would have to tell ever in his lifetime because the chances of it happening were slim to none. "Ah...ha. Funny thing. I...don't know how?" He smiled as he admitted the truth. He had a feeling he'd get more of an earful from Kitty after this.
"A'right, losers. Move outta the way. Mack Daddy Malak is here to extinguish this fire," announced Malak as she pulled the pin from the fire extinguisher. She surveyed the participants in this disaster and decided, obviously unbiased in her thought process because she certainly wasn't biased in favor of Silver, those at fault, which were Silver's three uncles. "To think the ones who were so gun-ho about restoring this manor into the hands of purebred sorcerers would show a little more concern about their oh-so precious home burning up," said Malak as she let the extinguisher do its (metaphorical) magic. She was glad she had checked the extinguisher label as she put out the fire. If the extinguisher was for kitchen fires, this wouldn't have gone so well. Not many people realized different types of fire extinguishers existed.
Once the last ember was extinguished, Malak lowered her weapon, which was the extinguisher, and faced the four Sanchez men (and Kitty). "Now, in just a few more minutes, the local fire trucks are gonna come here because, for God knows why, this little town has a fire department, but not a sheriff's office. And when the firefighters come here, each and every one of you will explain what the freaking Hell caused this mess. All of you, answer truthfully, or else." To emphasize her point, Malak held up the extinguisher nozzle at each Sanchez man, save Silver because Kitty was in his arms. She watched with great satisfaction as each man grimaced at her threat. Too bad they did not know she used up all of the extinguisher's contents on the curtains.

[So you know I've finished it.]
Silver took his scolding with love as he embraced Kitty in a hug as she continued to mutter beneath her breath. She was such a good familiar. "I'll do my best not to set anything on fire again, but I can't promise about birthday cakes," he whispered in Kitty's ear as the blare of the fire trucks slowly increased in volume.
Then Silver turned his attention to Malak, smirking as he sized her up and down with the fire extinguisher. "Mack Daddy Malak? Really?" Malak huffed and flipped her long tresses. "It was the only thing I could think of at the spur of the moment. Stop judging me!" Silver laughed as the blaring finally reached maximum. The fire department was here.
[~Time Skip.~]
"So that's what happened when I came into the picture," said Malak as she finished her version of events. From mischievous plans with Kitty to her arrival with the fire extinguisher. Chris, a firefighter who went to high school with her, nodded and motioned to the Sanchez Manor. "We'll call you if we need any more information, Mal. Just keep your boyfriend out of trouble, 'kay?" "Yeah, yeah. Now beat it, loser!" Malak shooed away Chris before she moved over to where Silver was finishing up his version of events with another firefighter.
"Well, that was fun. Where's Kitty?" inquired Malak as she peeked around the uniformed firefighters and paramedics. Silver jabbed his thumb to his left, elaborating, "She's still being interviewed, and I think they're taking pictures of her?" The two of them watched as some of the firefighters took discreet pictures of the cute cat before cracking up themselves. It was impossible not to love cats.

Silver waved at Kitty when she looked his way before walking towards her, Malak in stride beside him. "All set, Mrs. Kitty?" questioned Silver as he stooped to scoop his precious familiar up. "Yes, she's all yours," said the firefighter, who he recognized as his English teacher from middle school. "Thanks, Mr. Lechkov. Okay, Kitty, ready to go?" he asked his ever adorable cat. Malak, much to his expectations, rolled her eyes, but she was smiling. For a moment. "Is that how we're going to end it?" she asked the three of them.
Malak saw the blank expressions on the faces of the two men and exhaled with deep reservations about the continuation of the human species as a whole. "Do you want to leave the issue with your uncles like this? They managed to piss you off enough that you managed to create fireballs. They are also arranging betrothals on your behalf without your consent. I know they're all lawyers, but this has gotta be illegal." Malak was patient as the two clueless men exchanged looks once again. "FYI, I don't want them taking you from me." And then it dawned on them.
Of course they thought she was being jealous, that was the point. However, she did not want to marry Silver, not really. He was her friend, but she still had not felt an inkling of romantic interest in him. No wet dreams. No thoughts of making children together. She wanted him to find his partner on his own, and though it would pain her to depart from Kitty's presence, Malak knew it was for the best. But for Silver, things weren't so complicated on the emotional end. "I should talk to a lawyer, bring charges against them? Mr. Lechkov, do you know anyone?" the young sorcerer inquired, to which Mr. Lechkov smiled and affirmed his knowledge on local lawyers who could help.

Malak "awed" at Kitty's offer and scratched the familiar behind her ears. "That's so sweet, Kitty. It would be great if we could---" "But it's illegal," interjected Mr. Lechkov. "But it's illegal," Malak parroted with a cheery smile because it still warmed her heart knowing Kitty would do something like skinning Silver's uncles for them. Such a sweet, adoring cat they had with them.
Then Malak noticed Silver staring at her with a particular look. When she looked at the magical network entwined with his, she realized he was feeling slight fear at her obvious love of ruthlessness and violence towards people she hated. It was good he was learning so well how vengeful and vindictive she could be. "Well, Mr. Leckhov, I would appreciate the number for the lawyers. I'll probably need them for the insurance as well," he affirmed as he readjusted Kitty's weight in his arms. "Sure, I have the number saved in my phone. It'll just be a moment."
Silver did not want to go as far as skinning his uncles, not seriously, as he feared his familiar and betrothed intended. He was glad for an adult's presence in their conversation because things could easily go into a dark place without a mature, guiding presence. However, once that adult presence left to fetch his phone from the firetruck, Silver needed to keep Kitty and Malak in check. "Okay, no more speaking of skinning people. We don't want my uncles using that as ammunition against us," he declared without giving Kitty or Malak a moment to respond. "They are lawyers, and pretty damn good ones. They deal with high-profile cases all the time. They can use anything we say against us, especially if it's in the public record.
"Now, that being said, we keep our mischief discreet. Deal?" he proposed as he massaged Kitty's flank as he held her. Malak looked up at him and sighed. "Fine, we'll do it your way, killjoy." Watching Malak become compliant made him wonder if she had something up her sleeves for his uncles, or if she just didn't feel like arguing with him.
