The Meteor is a collaboration between Kallori and Dark Xaero. Original idea created by Kallori


IN THE YEAR 2069...


The world had reached a new peak of civilization. Technology advancements had skyrocketed, allowing the population of Earth to pave way for a new era, an era of longterm peace and tranquility. At last, the term 'war' would be ancient history, almost devoid from meaning.

But suddenly, from the eye of an astronomer, came something no one expected...


A giant meteor was heading straight for Earth. Origin unknown, the astronomer repoted his finding to his nearest colleague, who then passed it on to the military. The enforcers rallied up their weapons, throwing everything they had at it, but nothing stopped it or even managed to break it. Surely, the world was doomed, and everyone around the globe braced for impact.

STAIN

The meteor collided with Earth over western Russia, knocking the planet off its axis and sending it into a state of heightened, reversed cycles. When The World Set Fire was the universal term, as the meteor created massive clouds of ash, toxic enough to affect those within the entire atmoshere, and spread its destruction across the globe, burning everything in sight and destroying much, if not all of what humanity had achieved to this point. The people who survived the event believed that they were in Hell, as there was no escape from the madness.

The fires eventually died off, but the clouds remained, replacing the bright blue sky everyone had been accustomed to. Civilization was on the brink of death; Towns both large and small were now concrete jungles, the empty husks of buildings remaining as a testament. Forests, jungles, and prairies had turned to ash, leaving only the charred dirt and stone behind. Millions of people suffered, the majority dying from the fires or harsh air, their bodies either cremated or rotten and decaying. The oceans started to dry up, but were not gone completely. What remained had become severely contaminated from the toxins. Just when humanity had reached an all-time high, they found a new level of low. The population was on the verge of extinction from just one cosmic event. Yes, it seemed there was no hope left, and all of the devastation happened in a single day.

But there were survivors.
Do you want to know what happened?
Well, let's just leave it at this; some of them...
CHANGED


REBIRTH

Through the chaos and turmoil that had become the Age of Shadow, certain things started to...happen, in those survivors. As the population steadily increased over the next few decades, a genetic mutation occured in a select few, creating a new dividing line between normal and freak; Human and Affected. Those with the "gift", these 'Affected', were able to breathe through the harsh toxins, some even being affected so much that certain other traits began to rise. They had adopted something no one had ever thought would happen; they adopted inhuman abilities.

Yes, the Affected were not seen as something of an abomination, but rather, as a savior to the human race. Renaming the select species as Senti,from the word sentient, they were seen as something that may even rival a god. But alas, they were not perfect, and could only retain one ability.

DOMINION

What humanity had tried to prevent had only become worse. Riots had broken out all over the globe, causing strife and pandemonium to ensue, making hundreds more suffer and others that started the acts were simply trying to get by, using any means they knew, including terrorizing the innocent. In order to get the situations under control, those with the desire to help the people in need and bring those who had hurt to justice, banded together. They had created a union, a rarity in this day and age, and salvaged what technology they could in order to finish their goal of maintaining peace in this new Hell. They had created a strike team of humans and Senti alike called the Enforcement Corps, a sort of private military unit meant to patrol the barren wastes of Earth and help those who could not help themselves.

At first, this was just a band of men and women doing a civic duty, but soon they realized that what they were doing wasn't enough. And so, they created a monumental facility simply known as the Citadel, and incorporated it into their militial unit's name. The Citadel would be their base of operations, a sort of refuge where they could safely govern the remaining population and bring order about the world. It is also here that a lone scientist's group of engineers would develop the first robotic combat unit, at first referred to as RCU, but later incorporated the CEC as their designation. These robots had replaced most of the able-bodied humans and Senti of the original CEC as well, making the machines more reliable.

MITIGATION

As time went on, places akin to the Citadel rose up under the Headmaster's orders. These places, dubbed Junctions, were safe zones for those too far from the Citadel for the CEC to assist them. These bases were not only the homes to hundreds, but also to the governing bodies of the Council.

The Council is the assumed governing body of the current era, comprised of a select few and each tasked with a part of the remaining world to watch over. Forged by the creator of the RCU and the Headmaster, the Council is meant to act as an authority figure in each of their Junctions. Though it was just a small band of people, they have since quelled dissent among their designated areas and are also meant to monitor changes to each of their Junctions. They would then meet at the Citadel and choose an appropriate action to take. It is ruled that no Council member must decide said actions on their own in order to maintain order and trust among themselves and those they protect.

REACH

As time moved and the world was back on its feet, technology was refound. Several enhancements were made in order to survive in their new world:

ENERGY - Though oil supplies were at acceptable rates before the meteor hit, the world's economy divulged in solar and wind power as a suitable and acceptable back-up plan. Though most technology was vaporized, some never to be seen again, that whch remained was salvaged and through deconstruction, was reconstructed, redeveloped, and remodified by the CEC and distributed to Junctions all across the globe, although if you're lucky, you may come across something they missed. Along with these types of power sources, the CEC also harnessed the untapped ability of the meteor itself. Due to its nature of being able to generate untold amounts of unknown power, it was sent directly to the scientist of the CEC for further study. The mineral, dubbed Terranium, was highly unstable, sometimes emitting bursts of radiation, the same found in the ash clouds. Because of this, those working around it must wear special suits at all times to avoid mutation beyond that of a Senti. The mineral is used in nearly all manner of technology today, and it is found that when water comes into contact, it revitalizes the mineral's power.

WEAPONS - As iconic as they now seem, conventional weapons still exist to this day. Finding them is a whole other story. Using them? You better have the technological know-how of yesteryear for that. However, laser and plasma based weapons are the current advancements in the field. Many, if not all of these weapons have a special identification system in them that won't let just anybody pick up and blast away. You want your hands on this tech? Course you do. See an arms dealer, referred to as Lockpicks, in order to let you use it. However, these don't come cheap. Buyer beware though, some Lockpicks are shady dealers, and usually have even shadier customers!

VEHICLES - After the meteor laid its devastating wake, almost all of the vehicles of the once modern age are nothing but antique pieces of scrap metal, scenery if you will, and populating many broken highways, bridges, and other roads. Lady Luck be with you if you find one of these that still works! Just make sure to let her ride shotgun. Engineers have begun working on new modes of transportation, using Terranium as a battery. Anti-gravity is a goal they're reaching for in order to traverse the world safely. Only the very wealthy are able to get their hands on some finished prototypes, because the materials don't come cheap.

ROBOTICS - By the time the meteor hit, robotics were all the rage, many advanced beyond the state before the cataclysm. However, their AI was severely flawed, and engineers and scientists never got to correct this. Now, Androids roam the wastes, most under the authority of the CEC while others are constructed for a different purpose. No Android is capable of sentient thought, making them simple tools when they are needed or required. Each Android is equipped with a Vibrosaber in their right arm and a laser cannon in their left. They are not able to wield anything but. Augmentation, on the other hand, had yet to be incorporated into both the Androids and society before the cataclysm. Now it is a rarity to only the wealthy or those in the underground.

Humans

You know who you are, don't deny it. Statistically, Humans are the most flexible Faction, being extremely diverse in normal abilities and professions. However, they are susceptible to the air, and usually need some kind of breathing apparatus to survive. There are some that are able to withstand the chemicals, but not for extended periods. (think athsma)Additionally, humans are the weakest Faction.

Senti

Senti are an evolved state of Humans, thanks to the toxins in the air. They look and act just like any human, but are capable of unusual abilities, raising their prowess over others. Additionally, they are the second-strongest Faction, partially due to this gift. However, they must not let the power corrupt them or abuse them, for it may be their downfall. Some Senti also tend to rely too much on their power, making them a difficult Faction.

Andro

Andros are specialized robots, meant to protect others. Though many are simple, following orders and not acting otherwise, developments in cybernetics have allowed certain Andros to become sentient, aware of everything around them, almost acting human. They are the middle class when it comes to stats, and all-around in the fields of durability, speed, and power.

Mimic

A Mimic is just that, a copy of something else. Mimics are specially designed robots that take the appearance of any kind of human, though are still inorganic on the inside; it is only the shell that fools everyone. Mimics can also be programmed with Senti-like abilities, further defining the charade. However, they can choose to act on their own or follow orders from a microchip programmed into their system. They are the fourth-strongest Faction, but their likeness to humans in design and dexterity make up for it.

Exposed

A strange Faction where the lines are blurred between human and mutant. Exposed are ordinary people who have undergone partial mutation from the Terranium radiation, and as a result, develop grotesque features, such as one arm bigger than the other, or facial deformities. Their statistics are inversely related; when they become stronger, they also become slower. Their durability and resistance spike, but their intelligence drops. Truly a bizarre Faction...

The Council

The Council is perhaps the biggest and possibly longest-running known organization ever since the events of the collision. While work may seem tedious, and, to an extent, boring for some, it is what keeps the world in check, from the big problems to the small. The paychecks aren't too bad either.

Citadel Enforcement Corps

Contrary to many people's beliefs, the Enforcement Corps have been around longer than the Citadel. The main reason they aren't known for it is because not a lot of people suspected an official group was established back then. These are the militial grunts of The Council, and are sent to various Junctions around the globe, sometimes in the company of a Council member or their subordinates.

The Purists

The Purists are a group that are often intermingled with the use of the word "cult" due to their operations. However, their goal is simple; to "heal" anybody affected by the Terranium radiation, and usually by any means necessary. Their targets include Senti, Exposed, and the usual mutants that roam the wastes. Such "healing" processes involve murdering people, making them not a very trusted group. Due to some inner problems, the group has since disbanded for reasons unknown, and their leader seems to have fallen off the grid.

The Hunger

You can instantly tell that this group doesn't mean well simply by their name. It is a cult, and a very elitist one at that. They take in Humans from time to time who want to "explore" a different path of life, exposing them to Terranium radiation in order to gain abilities and become Senti. Said people usually end up as underlings to their leader's bidding, and none dare question his authority. When one has become an Exposed, they usually don't last more than a week. This cult is considered highly dangerous, and the members, including the ringleader, even have a bounty on their heads.

Cold Riderz

The last known biker gang to exist, these surly customers roam the wastes with no particular destination in mind and are known to pillage Junctions. They love to cause destruction and see others suffer. They are all wanted criminals, but they don't care, because they aren't going to back down, even in the face of the law. To them, blowing s**t up is more than just a hobby; it's their way of life.

Freak Striker Corps

A small band of Andro units make up this group. They are not willing to budge for newbies either. Originally meant as prototype one-man army units, This squad of four has been redesignated for a more sinister purpose, which involves the extermination of all mutant species, even including the Senti. Equipped to handle themselves in any situation, the FSC are a force to be reckoned with; should you bump into them and are a mutant of any degree.

Teh L337 Gurus

Many people who know technology inside and out make up this group, and while some request their tech to be fixed should it break, no one seems to be able to understand their strange technobabble, or worse, language. With terms like "rofl" and "wtf" used in daily speech, which have become univesally dead with the rest of the world, many tend to just let them keep to themselves and want nothing more than their services.

Terranium Mobsters

Survivors in Russia started this organization, and for a fee, they'll let people come and mine the deadly mineral for use elsewhere. They never rip others off; they work on a "however much you pay you mine" scheme. This includes a time limit in which you have in order to extract the mineral. You can find the mining area easily by a large facility a few miles from the crater.

Protection Against Animal Cruelty

This organization was started by some animal lovers who wanted to keep the animal world from becoming mutants in the toxic air. They rescue animals all over the world, having several branches spread throughout the globe. The PAAC, pronounced "pack", also tries to treat animals who have suffered only slight radiation, and attempt to root it out at the source. They get their funds for such treatments from a variety of sources. If you love animals too, this might be the organization for you. And the pay is good too.

Iron Pheonix

Countless rumors surround this mysterious group, and although it might be clear what their intentions might have been, somehow every last member of this organization has been wiped out, leaving only their name behind in hush tones. Few rumors are told of their startling weaponry; sadly, the only man to have in his possession such a device is the current Headmaster of the Council. No other such weapons have been discovered.

Below is a list of jobs that your character can employ for. Keep in mind not all factions can apply for the same thing.

Mercenary
Just your average shady worker for varying sums of money to perform different missions.
Human, Senti, Andro, Mimic, Exposed

Bounty Hunter
Hired goons to exterminate others under the orders of their boss. They don't care what it is so long as the pay is good.
Human, Senti, Mimic, Exposed

Hunter
Medial people who hunt for meat and other food supplies in order to stay alive. They often butt heads with the PAAC.
Human, Andro, Mimic, Exposed

Militia
A sub-category of the CEC, they are special operatives meant to hold the proverbial hammer for large-scale events.
Human, Senti, Andro, Mimic

Bodyguard
Special workers meant to guard specific targets. Usually accompany said targets to their destination.
Human, Senti, Andro, Mimic

Trader
People who sell goods to others, or buy rarities when they see an opportunity. Traders are varied in their market and products.

Doctor
People who look out for others and treat any wounds or illnesses. Trying to find an antibiotic for the Terranium toxins is something they're all working for.

Caravan Driver
Caravans are transport vehicles that ship goods all over the world. Since they have no AI to pilot themselves, a driver is needed for the job.

Caravan Guard
Caravans are transport vehicles that ship goods all over the world. Because of the rise in criminal activity, this is a much-needed position.

Bandit
Although anyone can pillage, they usually don't profit from it. Certain criminal lords are willing to take on those who seek this kind of job, and actually pay petty well.

Gunsmith
Littered about the world are ancient pieces of weaponry and firearms, some in slightly better condition than others. If you don't know what to do with it, take it to a Gunsmith; these people know what they're doing, and can get it ready for you. The pay they demand is tied to how well the weapon's condition is.
Human, Mimic

Lockpick
With the rise in advanced weaponry, they have installed special chips that only let the owner use it. A Lockpick can set up that ID chip for you if you want a new-age weapon, for a price.
Human, Mimic

Sentry
A job only entailed to the Andros, due to their high-range optics and more-than-stellar applications. They guard high-mantenance areas, such as the Citadel, from thugs and criminals.
Andro

Engineer
For those that want to contribute to today's technology and help build the machines of tomorrow, today!

Scientist
High knowledge is required for this field, and the drive to succeed. There is no room for failure in this field, so prepare for a high-stress environment.

Banker
Although money has become nearly obsolete ever since the crash, technology has helped maintain it. Banks are scattered around the world, and usually require a special card in order to access your funds.

Miner
If you want to spend the rest of your life around minerals, including Terranium, then this is the job for you! Excavating these resources is highly needed, and the pay is great too!

Reporter
Although the meteor rocked the planet, that didn't stop people from wanting to learn more! Reporters cover everything that happens in the world, from changes in the climate to criminal activity. They are usually followed by a small entourage of camerapeople.

Cameraperson
Working alongside reporters to bring the latest scoop to the public's eyes and ears, these two seem to go hand in hand. Just don't blame us if you can't get along.

Chef
Although the ash clouds' toxins make many sources of food dangerous to eat, what hasn't been tampered with is brought into a kitchen in the only Oasis in the world. Only the wealthy can really afford this kind of fine dining.

Butcher
A more malicious version of chefs, butchers will slaughter just about any creature they deem as edible, including the highly radioactive mutants. Although it is food, some people wonder about their own health through this.

In case you didn't know by now, a Junction is a safe zone from the dangers outside. They are located all over the world, some places with more than others. Here is a list of all known Junctions under the watchful eyes of the Council members.

Please keep in mind some names have changed to accomodate the RP.
Heritage plays a minor role in determining what Junctions each member watches over; if two members are the same heritage, it's a toss of the coin. If they still have those. Unless they wish to work together.

This is a compiled list of every weapon we can think of! You can use anything, from today's day and age to that of the futuristic style abundant in the RP, along with any miscellaneous ones.
For guns that fall under Archaic, please provide a Wiki link. For Weapons that fall under New Age and Misc Archaic, please provide a description. You can post these ideas in the OOC.

New Age - Blades

Vibrosaber [A combat blade combining extreme temperature and oscillation rates in order to improve the effectiveness of the weapon. It has a red glow because of this. It also has a second function used for crowd control, but requires an hour to recharge in between uses. They are mainly found on the CEC and are ID Locked.]
Banshee Limb [A rather vulgar-sounding name for a sword, Banshee Limbs can bend to certain degrees, though not everybody has found out how to use them like this, thus leaving the blade straight. What they don't know is that a bent blade acts similar to a boomerang, returning to its owner if thrown. This makes the Banshee Limb useful in both close quarters and ranged combat. However, this is not how it got its name. The reason for that is because the blade itself is able to produce a noise similar to a scream whenever someone swings it. Many hypothesize this is simply the blade cutting the air.]
Vibro Flux [An upgraded version to the Vibrosaber, a Vibro Flux is able to extend and enlarge its blade, since it is made of pure plasma. The natural size has been lengthened and widened slightly at the end of the blade, in comparison to a Vibrosaber. Additionally, it has lost all the metallic parts that originally held its shape in order for it to function properly. The size the blade can reach depends on how hard the user swings it, sometimes extending up to four times its oiginal size. These variations are few in number and very costly.]
Vibro Grip [A variation to the Vibro family, the Vibro Grip has the addition of a hook on the back of the blade, allowing it to catch onto various points, and in turn allowing the wielder to ascend various things, the most common being scaling mutants, as the hook can easily cut through the flesh. They are only given to those skilled enough to handle mutants with little to no backup.]

New Age - Guns

MK-34 Plasma Cannon [A standard issue gun made useful by its power and lightweight design]
MK-38 PG Shooter [A type of gun that fires plasma grenades, which explode on impact. They can soar great distances at high speeds, making them rather valuable]
Shriek Magnum [A powerful laser cannon that lets out a high-pitched noise as it fires. This is due to the built-up force behind the shot, and the noise is the product of when the laser is released]
Mach Bruiser [The Mach Bruiser is a type of rifle used to help with the extermination of out-of-hand mutants, such as Goliaths and Babysitters. The rifle did not get its name just to sound fancy; the laser bullets the gun produces can travel at speeds relative to or faster than the speed of sound, and upon impact, can deliver a wound that is six feet in diameter. Sometimes the bullets will hit the target before any sound is made from the gun. The CEC specially trains its soldiers to use these weapons, ensuring their own safety and success in the operation.]
RF MK-40 Pelter [This gun stands out from the rest for its rapid-fire functionality and ability to fire multiple plasma beams at once. In order for it to do this, the gun has 9 barrels and a tall case to contain the plasma ammo. They are given only to the most highly-trained individuals of the CEC, since rookie soldiers will most likely not lift their finger from the trigger.]
Eroder [A large bazooka-type gun that fires an orb at its foes. When it strikes, it's dangerous acidic contents are free to eat their intended target. Some would consider this gun illegal, but others have found it useful against the mutants.]
Binder [Similar in appearance to an Eroder, though at the same time, different. A Binder fires a sort of electrified net to encase out-of-hand mutants and mutated animals. However, because of the size of the net, it cannot capture anything bigger than a Young, which dampens its use.]
MK-27 Destroyer [A rare but very useful gun that functions much differently from the others. It is also a bazooka-type, but instead of instant fire, it takes time to charge its shots. While this is found to be a nuisance by many, since they must do what they can to protect the user, it pays off well in the end, firing a significantly large beam of plasma that can cut through even a Goliath's skin and leave an equally significant hole. They are manufactured in rather small numbers, the developers saying that any more and they wouldn't have a planet left, even in the miserable state it's already in.]

Misc. New Age

Senti Glove [Though the name only mentions one, it is actually a pair. The Senti Glove is rare, and gives even a regular Human the abilities a Senti would have. These abilities vary from person to person. The gloves are actually considered illegal by many, though sold on the black market by various dealers, including Lockpicks. However, because of their simple design to imitate a biker's glove, they are hard to differentiate, and thus are sought out by officials, sometimes confiscating the gloves they imitate as well.]
Stunstring [A new-age type whip that has hundreds of volts of electricity coursing through it. It can extend up to 7 feet, and gives off a deadly burst of static whenever the whip cracks. Though it is rather short-ranged, it is surprisingly useful against the mutants, and can even bring a Goliath to its knees when used right.]
Vibro Cannon [A hybrid of blade and gun, this weapon is the ultimate in close quarters and ranged combat, easily making it the most wanted piece of equipment to any buyer, whether militia or otherwise. This, in turn, has made them costly for one of two reasons. The other reason is that these weapons are not easy to make, and one mistake in circuitry could spell disaster. The Vibro Cannons are very lightweight, matching, if not improving the speed and power of the original Vibrosaber, and outperforming both the MK-34 Plasma Cannon and RF MK-40 Pelter easily. The fact that it is a part of both weapon types only increases its already deadly potential as a whole.]

Andro Unit [CEC]
A standardized unit built for combat. There are many other variations on them depending on what tasks they are built for.

The Citadel
The main base of operations for the Council, it's many members, and several hangars and factories in the lower areas where space-age craft and Andro Units are built, respectively, despite them being constructed in other regions as well. It is also here that a supercomputer by the name of DAWN was constructed. The supercomputer creates an almost life-like image of a youthful woman, with data running down this avatar.

Citadel Credits
The currency of the modern age. The data on the back prevents counterfeiting.
