Did you go to prom with a date?

If you did:
Did you have fun?
Did your date have fun?
What was the best part?

If you didn't:
Do you regret it?
Did you still have fun anyway?
Did you mean to ask somebody, but end up chickening out in the end?
-- do you regret chickening out?
Did you go with a group of friends instead?

Add/subtract any questions. My brain's broken and I can't think of any others.

Actually, you don't have to answer my questions at all. Come up with your own, or just tell your story.

My Story:

I'm lucky enough to have the chance to go to two proms, but for sort of an unfortunate reason. ANYWAY.

The first one, I went with a big group of friends. None of us had dates, we just went as a group. Ate as a group, danced as a group, did pretty much everything together.

The second one is in three weeks. Originally, I was going to take a really good friend as my date, but because of distance and money issues, he didn't end up being able to come - so I'm taking one of my girlfriends as my guest. (She graduated last year, and so she's getting a second prom too, hehe)

I'm kinda disappointed that my friend isn't able to come as my date. Really disappointed that my boyfriend isn't able to come either, because of even worse distance issues. (Friend only lives a few hours away. Boyfriend lives on a different continent. It sucks.)

Junior prom I had no date. I had broken up with my boyfriend a few weeks before prom. I sort of regret that, because he was a nice guy, but it's in the past. I went anyway, with friends and had a great time. All except for taking pictures, I hate that! xp
Senior Prom I went with my (now) husband. (Yeah, I'm that old.) Had a great time, then, too.
I'm sorry you can't have your boyfriend or friend to go with you.
My first prom (1999), I went as a pity date to a very unattractive friend of mine. It was awkward and uncomfortable.

My second one (2000), I went with my gay swing dance partner. Note: Swing dancing + Poofy dress = ruined dress.

3rd time around (2001), I wanted to ask this guy that I had a crush on who had graduated the year before. He hadn't gone the year before, so I ended up going with the guy I was dated who I wasn't really that interested in. Turns out my crush DID go to prom that year with a girl that I didn't like at all. We ended up talking and he asked me to hang out after the prom. Sadly, my parents gave me a ridiculously early kerfew and I had to turn him down.

I honestly didn't have fun at any of the proms (I actually fell asleep at one). Wish could have saved all the money spent on them and thrown a party or something.

As for the boyfriend on the other continent: been there, done that. It's hard but if your heart is really in it, then you'll do fine. Also, Walgreens has a good deal on international phone cards. They are a blessing. Best of luck to you!

The swing dancing sounds like it would've been a lot of fun! Although the fact that the dress got ruined sucks =(

Sucks about the curfew, too.

Mm, we don't have Walgreens in Canada though.
But we do have another workaround - audio conversations over MSN.
Only thing that really makes it difficult is the 8-hour time difference.
Thanks for the wishes of luck <3

I didn't get to go to prom because i don't get to go to school. cheese_whine
I went to four proms, actually: my junior and senior, and my boyfriend's junior and senior. We dated for three years, so it was nice to have a date to each one; I felt obligated to go to each one, tho, which wasn't so cool.
My junior prom (04) was the best. I wore a pretty black strapless gown with purple panels at the side. All my friends went with us, and I got my friend Jeff, who's very stuffy and uptight, to dance "thug" style with my boyfriend. Right before we were about to leave, my boyfriend was dancing to the chicken dance and he ripped his pants- and he had owned his own suit for years. He tore the entire crotch seam right out. We stayed the night at Jeff's house, and sat around all night taking turns playing old Sega and then watched Office Space. His junior prom was kind of boring- none of our mutual friends came, and the only girl I knew didn't like me because she wanted to date my boyfriend. He kept pulling at me all night because the dress I wore that time was lower cut than I expected and apparently when I leaned forward you could see things. redface One thing that was really sweet: he got our friends who didn't go to drive us around in their van (also, it wasn't great because he was mad at me for choosing Bennigan's for dinner).
Senior year was okay. His was better, actually, because his friends came, and I wore the black dress again, and knew what to do with my hair this time. They had a chocolate fondue fountain (and I managed to get chocolate all down the front of my dress, but I got it before it dried, so). I really don't remember much except completely failing at using my friend's borrowed digital SLR. My senior prom was sooo boring. The funnest thing we did was write on the table with the rose petals. The committee chose a crappy theme, and "that guy" from my group of friends came- in a tuxedo tshirt and a pink cowboy hat. He then proceeded to point out how "ironic" his outfit was to everyone. sweatdrop We ended up ditching early.

I actually have some sob stories, too, but I won't post them here because I've taken up too much space already.
Because I can...

Note: Our school has two proms: one for the seniors and one for the juniors. I'm a junior.

The usual kids that I hang around are somewhat social outcasts... and mostly male. So, when prom rolled around, asking one of them to go didn't really seem to work. School functions aren't their thing at all. (They're more likely to have an anti-prom.)

Now, I'd rather go with a friend than the one guy I barely know who has a bit of a crush on me but he didn't ask anyway. Thus, I turned to my female friends.

I ended up going with my friend Marisa, a senior because she originally was having problems getting her boyfriend to go to prom with her. (He graduated two years ago, not one so he was over the "age limit." Incidentally, she managed to get permission for him to go since he graduated from out school to begin with but then they separated around the time of ticket sales and she decided to not buy tickets since he was ignoring her so they couldn't even go as friends.)

It was quite fun. I wish I had my closer friends with me, but I was sociable with the friends I don't see as frequently anyway. All the same, I felt bad for my "date" because she was a bit lonesome as a senior even though there were other ones around that she talked to sometimes. (Plus I ditched her a few times. Heh. Technically, we're not that close of friends either.) At slow dances we wither sulked at the table, by the food, or danced by ourselves with our invisible guys. (If you hold your arms up like that for a whole song, it gets pretty tired.)

The best part was when the desserts came out. Chocolate fountains and ice cream sundaes. We're all pigs. I got some chocolate on my dress but only a couple tiny drops. Some people got much worse.

The worst part was when somebody stepped on my foot on the dance floor. (I got a sneaking suspicion that it might have actually been me.) It bled a lot since it peeled a chunk of skin back. Thankfully, my insecurity about my legs paid off since I wore stockings which acted as a lovely gauze to prevent the blood from getting everywhere.

The strangest moment was when I was in a three way slow dance with a guy I new vaguely and my date. It was one of those, "Do I know you? Oh yeah. You were one of the people there for ____." It was odd. We didn't last the whole song because it got awkward after a while.
My junior prom wasn't fun in the least.

My date was a very good guy friend of mine who had a huge crush on me, but I wasn't (and still not) romantically interested in at all.

Our ride was my ex-friend's boyfriend at the time. We were all mutual friends, so it seemed like the best plan of action.

What we didn't count on was my ex-friend being completely whiny the entire fifteen minutes that we were there before we finally gave up and left due to how bored she was.

After that, we were hanging out at her house until the wee hours when I asked her boyfriend to take me home (remember, he was my ride), to which she responded, "You can walk home." All so she could lock lips with him for hours when dropping me at my house would take less than five minutes. Very selfish girl.

Suffice it to say, they broke up about a year after that and she and I were no longer pals after graduation. At least my senior prom more than made up for it.
Let's see... my school only had one prom which was Junior Prom, no Senior Prom. And my Junior year I went with my 1-year-long boyfriend. Our prom theme was Casino so they had tables set up with cards and fake poker chips and things like that. I'm not exactly a great dancer but I did still have fun dancing and just hanging out with my friends. There weren't many slow songs though and my bf only danced with me to one song. The rest of the night he spent at the poker table and though I did ask him a few times he blew me off and told me to go ahead and dance. Then near the end of the night before we had to leave he asks some other girl to dance, which would've been really the last dance. She was my friend too and I know... at least I think he only meant it as friends, but it still sort of hurt that 1: it was the last dance and 2: he blew me off most of the night and only danced with me once. So it was a pretty upsetting prom for me =/

Junior Year: Date ditched me two weeks before prom to take a freshman. Said freshman girl hated my guts because I was closer to boy in question than she could ever hope to be. So nyah. *lol* Went with big group of friends, danced with VERY gay friend who never returned my zip-up high heel boots.

Senior Year: Went with big group of friends, had hideous time, watched straight-laced virgin-til-marriage friend freak-dance with VERY gay friend who dressed MUCH more conservatively this year. *snort*

I wish I had had a date, but I was BELOW "social outcast" in the highschool hierarchy. I was the "gothic-freak-blooddrinker-voodoo-queen-eat-yer-children-fat-n-ugly-untouchable" in school. Funnily enough, they all like me now. smile
