It wasn't on purpose. She just ran out of power mid conversation, then her eyes blanked and her body fell over, with several large metallic clunking sounds.

I think the very nature of being a satyr is enough to scare any small child. The snake might win some of them over, but the whole goat-man motif will quickly overrule that,
