Bonjour my dear;
On gaia you can do whatever your little heart pleases! By the way, very cute avi! (I remember when I first started all we had was 100 bucks and earned money from browsing and completing puzzles; basically we all had some ratchet 2007 outfits XD)
You can explore the forums and talk about virtually anything you want to talk about (within the ToS of course).
You can play all sorts of cute little games to earn prizes and money in the Games. We used to have this really amazing game, zOMG, but they removed it *cries*.
You can become a mini Trump and rule the marketplace by buying low and selling high! Earning money allows you to buy an infinite (okay not infinite but a helluva lot) amount of items whether if be for your avatar, your car, your house or your aquarium.
There's all sorts of events always going on, like the Xmas Event we have currently, where you can join in the activities and win exclusive items!

And diddly doddle darn that entire previous paragraph makes me sound like an automated message form an admin. Sorry babe, but seriously, do whatever you want! Make friends, make a cute avi.

tips:
~Play the games. Tickets are a great way to make gold.
~Do Gofusion cool way to get new items. And you can get charms in daily chance.
~Ask for help when you need it. Some folks are more than happy to donate.
